Outrageous from Plymouth NHS Trust. They couldn't run a tap properly, let alone NHS provision for the area! How much do they pay their CEO? Disgusting increases on a charge that should never be levied on either staff, patients or visitors.

My wife is a staff nurse at Derriford Hospital. She is late off duty by periods of between 10 - 30 minutes every shift. And yes they do not get paid. Perhaps the trust could start paying these staff for the extra time. This would go towards helping the staff pay the extra car parking charges. My gut feeling tells me this would be very expensive!
Yet again Derriford want it all ways!

My parents both work for Derriford hospital and I find it disgusting that they have to pay to park for work. I'd understand if it was London, but this is Plymouth!? Sort it out Derriford!

With a pay freeze for four years they shouldn't be getting targeted by their employers, if anything it should be free to park at the hospital for staff and patients.
Bet its free in Scotland , Wales and NI, when you live in England you subsidise the rest of the UK and pay top dollar for everything else

#158 The Nick Thomas interview BBC Devon

Heard this interview today…… mmmm Mr Thomas seemed to struggle when asked "why double the cost?" and with his comment "it's all about simple mathematics!" Indeed it is Nick, don't expect to take more if you're not giving the staff any more.

But that is Derriford Management for you, don't give hoot about the staff, certainly don't care about the patients (sorry statistics, they are not seen as People, just numbers), and they think acting like this will get them Foundation Status. They sure as hell won't get it without a workforce

Costs are not just being increased because they have been frozen for five years! Costs are being increased by over 100% because of those private profiteers, poor planning, poor land management and senior management failures. I believe that incremental pay progression is now under threat. There will be no rest bite from further austerity and pay cuts to the hard working NHS staff. Many many staff at all levels give thousands and thousands of UNPAID hours of work because they love the job they do. they care about patients. Does the employer care about the staff, Don't think so!

As it's true we haven't had a pay increase and derriford is asking it staff to pay more may i remind people of bircham car park has a mini bus to bring staff to work which derriford has to pay. The George park and ride pr3 is running every 20 minutes why coz derriford has stop payment towards it running every ten minutes now as for those of you saying you don't have the money for this just remember there are staff who are on band one that's £15000 a year before tax as for getting in you can always get drop in or maybe car share there the bus or walk in yes i know what your going to say but these are other ways in or do what I do ride a push bike in now I know you all can't do anything like this but remember the cost for your parking just a idea from a band one member of staff in derriford hospital.

Our pay has been frozen for a quite a few years now so parking should also be frozen. Derriford already has a problem recruiting new staff this will drive people away resulting in more agency staff at high costs being paid.

After reading the news that Derriford staff suffer low morale I wonder how it could be considered morally defensible to increase parking charges by this obscene amount. Staff at Derriford saved my father's life last year and for 3 months kept me, my Mum and family going. All the patients and families have nothing but praise to the staff. It seems to me that management and the board are badly out of touch. Well done GMB and Unison - solidarity!

Just seen on the news that staff at Torbay hospital pay £5.15 a month to park! Even at the rate we pay now the Torbay rate is half the part time charge for Derriford and three quarters the full time rate! As for charging disabled blue badge holders, how immoral can you get? There are also staff that are required to bring a car into work as they do home visits so can't even choose to take the bus to work. You have to ask how much profit is Vinci making out of this?!!

It would be cheaper to join the gym across the rd and use their car park when you are working :-)

The Hospital are forcing it's staff to pick up the financial deficit that they are in - because they know many staff do not have a choice. Parking at the Royal Devon and Exeter is around £8 per month, whereas the proposed fee at Derriford will be upwards of £49 per month. This is a disgrace

It is unfair to rise price so highly
