We do not have a choice in parking in hospital car parks there are no alternatives because we start work at 07.30 and finish at 20.00 . The George park and ride buses stop running at 19.15, Other buses are infrequent for early starters and late finishers or weekend workers. Our usual finish time is very variable due to work pressures and emergencies meaning we rarely get away on time when we would miss busses and have long waits for next one. After a 12 1/2 hour shift we just want to get home as soon as possible because we usually work several days in a row. Car sharing is almost impossible too because of the varying finishing times and not working with the same people, this would need to be made into a large pool to work and is probably easier for office based staff who have a more reliable finishing time.

The price is going up by double at least and our salaries have been frozen for several years how is this fair. We did not ask the hospital to sell off car parks and then rent them back at increasing rates.

We continue to give our vast skills to our patients and their families and not only are we expected to work through breaks and often finish shifts late now our salaries are going to be squeezed even more by rising car parking costs, if we strike we are told we are putting our patients at risk so we are expected to just get on with it this rise is the final straw. With the car park rises and the Tamar bridge cost rising I know nurses who are going to leave as it is not worth working which will put even more pressure on those of us left?

Please re consider these ridiculous increases.

100% increase when we are getting no wage increase is a kick in the teeth.

It's a disgrace we are having charges increased so much considering the pressures we face as a work force

I feel it is wrong to increase by such a degree when we haven't had a pay rise for 3 years!

I live in Taunton and commute to Plymouth. ..its expensive already for me never mind hiking the prices aswell. Hospitals are meant to be places where we can provide care and for vulnerable people to go but if anything its just a chance to exploit money out of both!

If only clinical services within NHS were as efficient as parking enforcement we would really have a service to be proud of.

I Think it is terrible the staff have to pay for parking in the first place ,it should be free for all staff at the hospital ,they make enough off everyone else that pay .

The Trust has a zero inflation policy.. They challenge any price rise above 0%, yet are happy to impose a 105% pay rise on their own staff.. Even at 3% inflation per year parking should not have gone up more than 16% in 5 years. Always the easy target, never the hard decision

This is about staff parking, not visitors or patients.

the consultants who didn't use to pay and work in nuffeld as well have got a free parking space over the road there , so they d be still parking for free but they earn the highest rate.

The staff at any hospital shouldn't have to pay any car parking charges. Parking should be available to all staff at hospitals, free of charge

The board need to appreciate their staff not penalise them. There many other government funded organisations where staff get free parking I.e schools, local government, public services etc. The medical staff need our support in this petition.

I work 5 days a week, no buses that can get me to work on time after completing the school run, I'm a single parent, how can I afford to pay more than double the amount I pay already just to do the job I love to do?

Approximately £600 a year to park, along with fuel costs. I may have to reconsider whether my job, which I am truly passionate about, is worth keeping at Derriford. I live 25 miles from the hospital and public transport is non-existent in my area. Not sure that I can afford to stay.

In Spain, all hospital car parking is free, for staff, visitors and patients. And they still manage to keep the wards clean and provide excellent care. If they can do it, so can Derriford.

It should be free for everyone! Parking to go to the hospital is ridiculous! If in any case there in an emergency the last thing on someone's mind is paying the parking metre. I think charges should be dropped altogether

How are the very low paid staff going to be able to afford this? It's difficult enough now.

No pay rise for several years and now this! A kick in the teeth for hardworking NHS staff!
