Collective grievance of Medirest Barnet Hospital Porters forcing collection dirty linen from Ed and discrimination against Porters by complaints without evidence

  1. We Undersigned, Barnet Hospital Porters, we raised a collective grievance forcing us to collect the dirty linen from ED and other Departments, complaints against us without evidence, we nominate Faycel Derbeli GMB Union Rep to deal with grievance due to : 

- This job doesn't belong to Porters job description 

- This Job is belong to NHS Staff following Chapter 1, 

Standard infection control precautions (SICPs, Section 

1.7  Safe management of linen : 

  • Staff ( NHS) handling used and/or infectious linen must wear appropriate PPE (see section 1.4).
  • Hand hygiene must be performed after handling used and/or infectious linen.
  • Ensure a laundry receptacle is available as close as possible to the point of use for immediate linen deposit.
  • Used items of linen should be removed one by one and placed in the used linen hamper/stream

- In the ED and wards, nursing staff are primarily responsible for ensuring dirty linen is collected and handled safely

- Within wards and departments, nursing staff are tasked with ensuring used linen is presented for collection in a safe manner.

- This job is belong to Healthcare Assistant and housekeeper ( Example: the wards) 

- Linen Porters ( Elis UK ) are responsible for the physical collection, transportation, and delivery of linen to the laundry service. They ensure that soiled linen is moved safely and efficiently, minimizing the risk of cross-contamination during transport. 

- The different Porters contract terms and conditions clauses with the same job descriptions.

- Too many complaints against Porters and moving them from ED without evidence.and without following the procedures. No investigation was held by whom making complaints. 

- We are against any bullying, discrimination and victimisation against us and any changes in our Employment Contract or job description should be followed by terms and conditions and procedures with provide notice, meetings under the Employment Rights 1996 and the Equality Act 2010.

- After we had negotiation with our union rep Faycel Derbeli,  we  request a meeting to discuss this further but unfortunately, the management keeps ignoring and continued to violating our rights under the Trade Union and Labour Relations ( Consolidation) Act 1992. In expression, equality, and our right to an environment based on mutual dialogue..
