Stop the Destructive Housing Development in Bridgnorth (Ref: 25/01722/OUT)

We, the undersigned, call on Shropshire Council to reject the outline planning application for a major housing development of up to 1,500 homes and associated infrastructure on greenfield land at Tasley, Bridgnorth.

This development threatens to irreversibly damage the character, environment, and well-being of our town. Our objections include:

• Traffic Chaos: Local roads cannot cope with the increased traffic, posing a danger to pedestrians, cyclists, and residents.

• Healthcare Impact: With the closure of Telford’s A&E and only one overstretched hospital in Shrewsbury, our healthcare system cannot support thousands of new residents.

• Loss of Agricultural Land: The site is productive farmland and a vital part of Bridgnorth’s rural identity. Its loss affects food security and biodiversity.

• Noise and Light Pollution: Proposed floodlit sports pitches, pavilions, and car parks will cause significant noise, light, and disruption — especially near equestrian and wildlife areas.

• Destruction of Wildlife and Hedgerows: The site is home to protected species and mature hedgerows that will be destroyed, including during the nesting season.

• Pressure on Education: Local schools are already full. There is no clear plan for sustainable educational provision.

• Inadequate Infrastructure Planning: Utilities, drainage, and public transport have not been properly considered.

We believe that this proposal is not in the best interests of Bridgnorth or its future generations. Sustainable development must prioritise brownfield sites, empty homes, and genuine community need — not profit-led urban sprawl.

We demand that Shropshire Council:

• Reject Planning Application 25/01722/OUT;

• Protect Bridgnorth's rural identity and green spaces;

• Commit to responsible, sustainable development.
