There can be no justification in local government allocating money to an unwanted vanity project, particularly at a time of austerity when spending on vital services is being cut. I understand that Gloriana is the property of the Queen, having been presented to her after the Jubilee. Perhaps she can house it in one of her own many residences? I'm sure she would agree that destroying a tranquil and secluded area of riverside that is enjoyed by many local people is an appalling proposal.

Twickenham Riverside is a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of London life. We have two young children and use the area every day, the playground is a thriving part of Twickenham life and the quiet surrounding roads make for a safe environment for our children. Pretty much all the roads leading down to the Riverside area are narrow and certainly not suited to heavy traffic. Please leave our riverside well alone.

Sounds an awful waste of money to house a replica. Thorpe park would be more appropriate!

As a long standing local resident, I passionately believe the best use of the riverside at Orleans Park is to leave it as it is. The Gloriana project appears to be ugly, expensive and wholly unnecessary.

Why not spend the money on revamping the playground

This is a big white elephant and Richmond Council has no right to commit our money to such an unnecessary scheme.
Use the money for something to benefit the rate payers (maybe some affordable housing for example).

Why don't they give back our hard earned tax contribution by upgrading the playground and facilities that would be enjoyed by all of us that love the area and for our children to grow up and enjoy instead of an idle eye sore of a boat?!

The riverside is an area of outstanding beauty and should not be obscured with additional buildings

I think that this is a monstrous idea that should never see the light of day.

Lord Sterling should find another borough to pay the costs of housing and maintaining his glorified row boat.

Orleans Riverside is perfect as it is. It doesn't need any development.

Not approving spending public money on something that will take away a tranquil green undeveloped area that everyone can enjoy. I don't see any benefit for the local area.

My four children and I have delighted in the Orleans playground over may years, with the peaceful countryside environment. I want to continue to enjoy this area with my grandchildren. Leave it alone.

Our visitors always admire the amenity of the parks, trees and vistas along the riverside from Richmond to Twickenham. The needless Gloriana development will detract massively from what is a natural haven. The environmental costs are simply too high. It would also add to the all too plentiful traffic problems in the area.

We believe this proposal is misguided, inappropriate and too expensive. It indicates a Council determined to ignore local views, as so often in planning arrangements in the borough, among them the development plans for Twickenham rail station

What a horrible idea. Just stay way from the trees.
Leave them alone. It is such a peaceful area. i don't have kids yet but i do feel sorry for the parents who do and want their kids to grow up in a safe area like this one. Stop spoiling the beauty of the nature.

Orleans Gardens is a most unsuitable site as it is a rural public walking and recreational setting. This boathouse would be more appropriate with others such as on Eel Pie Island or in Brentford.

Can anyone divulge the link between Lord True and the few who might benefit from this proposal ? Boats don't belong in parks.

I write to vehemently oppose plans to build any sort of built structure, at the site along the riverside at Marble Hill Park, for the housing of the Gloriana royal barge.

The Gloriana is a gift to the Queen, and I appreciate it's importance; however, this is best housed on royal estate, instead of public land. It should be on show at a site more widely visited by tourists, as opposed to replacing a park used by local residents.

I also feel that this is a flagrant disregard for proper, effective use of tax payers money. There are far more important matters to consider, such as funding for local schools.

Twickenham does not want Gloriana, let Brentfod have her.

It would be a great shame to ruin a rare tranquil area purely for financial gain for some.

NO, no, no..... does every last area of green, beauty and calmness have to be destroyed for the sake of a commercial tourist venture? Residents do not want this. Find another site.

I am so upset to hear that the council could even consider such a plan. That park is the best one around, children have been enjoying that park for such a long time. We do not need another complex, we need free undeveloped space.

Best wishes,
Lucy
