Philosophers for Future

Philosophers for Future  For some months now, high-school students around the world have staged the “Fridays-for-Future” strikes and demonstrations. They protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. In April 2019 a large group of scientists has formed a “Scientists-for-Future” movement; it aims to support the students’ demands with scientific data and theories.   We the undersigned feel that there is every reason to add a range of philosophical voices to this swelling chorus of pro

Stop the annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji

Every year between September and March, hundreds of dolphins are captured and killed in the most horrible way in Taiji, Japan. Twelve boats sail to the open sea almost every day to search for wild dolphins. A few kilometers from the coast, the dolphin hunters spread out to continue their search. Road closure in Calton Avenue and surrounding streets

Since 2015 traffic on Calton Avenue has increased by 83% at morning peak and by 58% at 6pm-7pm. Our air quality is at dangerous levels. The road is often grid-locked leading to reduced safety and quality of life for residents. Only removing the through traffic will resolve these issues so the Calton Avenue Residents Association are calling on the Council to take serious action.  We call on the Council to implement a permeable road closure (allowing access by pedestrians and cyclists only) at one

A vote of no confidence in Labour MP for Wigan Lisa Nandy who doesn’t represent the majority of her constituents relating to the referendum of 2016

63.9% of the Wigan electorate voted to leave the European Union in the referendum of 2016. Labour MP for Wigan Lisa Nandy campaigned to remain part of the political union and since the vote she has not, and will not represent the majority of her constituents who voted to leave. It is the duty of any MP to represent their constituents first and foremost but Lisa Nandy has not been doing that. She has openly stood against them, she has pushed for a People’s vote, a vote that has been backed by cor

STOP Ipswich Nude Bike Ride

On Saturday July 6th, an 8-mile nude bicycle ride will take place around Ipswich town centre. Ipswich Council has given permission for this to happen, and the Police have also been informed. We believe this level of nude exhibitionism - at a time and place where families and young children will be present - should absolutely NOT be allowed to happen. We're all in favour of exercise. We're all in favour of charitable endeavours and saving the environment. But we fail to see the relevance of the n

A petition to keep Miss Graham as Year 1’s teacher

As the parents of 1G we are saddened and disappointed to learn that Miss Graham will no longer be teaching the class commencing Jan 2020. Collectively we feel that for such young children who have recently adapted to the acedemic side to school life, it is very unsettling to introduce a new teacher part way through the school year. Many of our children have been very upset and anxious at the news and were told of the change before we as parents were informed. Several of the children were then vi
