Improve the Bus Service to Bevendean

Comments

It is a dreadful service that never improves just keeps finding ways of becoming worse. Why should they keep putting their prices up and giving us a worse service. Unfair on the paying customers who some scrape every penny to pay for a bus ticket. Only for the bus not to turn up and people having to pay for a taxi to make it to their destination on time. We should be intitled to a delay repay if our bus is late or cancelled so people are not left out of pocket!

Sam Pulling (Brighton , 2023-04-05)

I agree with the petition. The 48 service is an awful run service. Company doesn't care about it's passenger's and never have dealt with the complaints put to them about the poorly run service. If they've done anything it's making it worse. Sitting around at bus stops for over an hour when a 48 was scheduled and never showed up whilst bus after bus of the number 25 and 49 kept going past practically empty.

Sam Lineham (Brighton , 2023-04-05)

#205

There are few buses are often cancelled, so I have to take the car instead.

More buses and less cancellations please

Steve daniels (Brighton, 2023-04-06)

#207

The limited service offered by the 48 bus makes it almost unusable. Often, it is better to walk.

Anthony Ling (BRIGHTON, 2023-04-06)

#208

Bus no 48 is a joke. They not frequent enough and often cancelled. It's very humiliating to wait in a rain for a bus often more then half an hour and see other bus routes like 25 and 49 pass every 5 minutes. I often have to either walk or get my partner to drive to pick me up from lewes Road even I have a bus ticket. I'm often late for work and school pick up. Feel sorry for elder, disabled people and mums with small children. Working some weekends taking the bus to work in town is bit of mission as they only run once every 30 minutes.

linda puncocharova (Brighton, 2023-04-07)

#209

Please, please, please DO NOT take this out on the drivers! They are doing their absolute best and get unbelievably underpaid, taking into account the slack they get on a daily basis. The change in their route and unpredictability of peak time traffic is also hard for them, we are all human and work for the man, please be kind x

Jessica Smith (Brighton, 2023-04-07)

#210

The 48 bus has made me late for work and appointments countless times, worst thing about living in the area.

Jasper Flower (Brighton, 2023-04-08)

#211

Because I want to improve the service of our buses specially here in bevendean.

You dead right! Shaky buse, the most basic ones there is. Not enough buses, because of the student,s accommodation in Lewes Road, they get on any bus from the town. I am too old to go upstairs!

Harry Atkins (Brighton, 2023-04-17)

#221

I am tired of the bus continually not showing up and having to wait for over twenty minutes for the next one.

Nico Austin (Brighton, 2023-04-20)

#222

I'm suffering because of bus timing.

Md Jalal Ahmed (Brighton , 2023-04-23)

#223

Having just bought a property serviced by the number 48, having a reliable and regular service to and from the house is critical.

Philip Davidson (Brighton, 2023-04-23)

#225

The 48 bus is an atrocious service that separates Bevendean from the city depriving its people of connectivity in Brighton

Thomas Lyons (East Grinstead , 2023-04-29)

#227

I agree with the statement above, so many times the bus is running late or doesn't even turn up.

Izzy Snitter (Brighton , 2023-05-20)

#228

Because the bus service is awful and o have children that rely on the buses

On Thursday 28th April in the evening (8:45pm) I was waiting for a bus to get me home after picking up some heavy bags from a friends. Bought a ticket for the 48 to get me home in the poring rain. Waited 10 minutes, when it got down to 2 minutes it disappeared. 48 never showed, after waiting another 15 minutes not a single 48 went passed. Walked all the way from London Road to bevendean in the pouring rain. To top it off, not a single 48 passed me on my way home. I was angry, completely soaked and was aching terribly from carrying heavy bags all the way home. I'm glad it was only a £2 ticket as I try to avoid getting the bus whenever possible due to the unreliable service and the state of things once on them. £2 ticket should be a permanent price, paying any higher for this joke of a service is a rip off

Wade Burton (Brighton, 2023-05-20)

Whenever I need to rely on the 48 service, it doesn’t seem to show. The times are constantly rearranged and reset. As a disabled resident in the community, I rely on this service to access basic services and yet for years & years it’s let me down nearly every trip. The drivers are amazing and a credit to the service, they go above and beyond to support. It’s the delays, last minute cancellations & broken pieces of equipment on the buses that let us down.

Melissa M (Brighton, 2023-05-20)

#232

I'm a domiciliary care worker who uses the 48 frequently to a few service users in bevendean. On many occasions I've had to wait 30+ mins for the bus making me late for my call which leads to my service user not getting their meds on time which sometimes results in my day just being late for all my calls its an absolute joke I pay weekly fares which are bloody astronomical for the service I get. The 48 is so unpredictable especially in the wet and cold weather where half the bus stops don't have adequate sheltering to at least keep you dry when the 48 is late.

Rachele Shead (Brighton , 2023-05-20)

#233

I want a regular 48 bus please, less 49s!

Emily Winslade (Brighton, 2023-06-02)

#234

Im signed because the buses to Bevendean and from Bevendean is a horrible. They don't have many buses are running they are some time like 20,30 minutes at list, some time it's showing on app on Brighton and Hove the bus it's come after 2 min on bus stop but actually it's come after 40 min minutes. So my question is why actually I am paying 101£ for one month with that terrible survice I don't know. Hope so much the Brighton and Hove bus company is finally provide

#235

To improve the 48 bus service in Bevendean

Leila Erin-Jenkins (Brighton, 2023-07-18)

#236

Because of the appalling bus service to Bevendean . Not regular enough I sit at the bus stop in town and lots of 49 and other bus services come very frequently .

Karl Keating ( Brighton, 2023-07-19)

#239

Bevendean deserves a high quality bus service. With so many households yet little in the way of amenities it is essential that the bus runs well so that residents can get to town and beyond. I’m lucky, I have a car but it’s a shame that I often find myself driving into town when I could be on public transport

Paul Rawson (Brighton, 2023-08-16)

#241

The service is not good enough for those further into the area that cannot access other bus services.

Annemarie ORourke (Brighton , 2023-08-16)

#242

Bevendean deserves a good quality bus service, the present service is poor quality,

Manley Scott Bennett (Hove, 2023-08-16)

#244

The current level of service is appalling and in particular the number of cancellations with no warning or information. Even with the App buses that apparently are coming seem to just disappear of the display map.

David Janes (Brighton , 2023-08-16)

#246

buses are a very long wait. I wish the service was a longer journey and didn't terminate at Churchill square. my husband and I are disabled and would like to be able to visit family in Hove but the journey on the bus is too short for us. whereas the 49 travels from moulscoomb to Portslade station. The 49 is too far for me to get on, so wish the 48 would go a bit further.

joy ireland (brighton, 2023-08-16)

#247

The buses either don't turn up, disappear from the live bus times or are such a long wait until a next one comes.
Just last week i waited 45 minutes for the next bus, but then it said the next one would be 6minutes after that one... so they either are a long wait or they all turn up at around the same time.
It can make it very difficult to arrive at appointments and work on time.

Adriana Ireland (Brighton, 2023-08-16)

#248

Our bus service sometimes is non-existence sometimes they just take one off which means you wait half an hour for next one

Brenda Burstow (BRIGHTON, 2023-08-16)

The 48 bus service is not adequate for the estate

Michael Upton (Brighton, 2023-08-16)

#251

I’m signing this to improve the 48 bus service. This will be very helpful for me as a university student living in the locality for my daily commute.

Abhishek Mithran (Brighton , 2023-08-16)

#252

The bes service can be a nightmare always excuses when delays 48 suffers and 49s run normal I've waited 45 mins few times I pay over 800pound ayear and rely o this service frustrating the bus company take the p*** out of us even the bus drivers feel embarrassed when they have to make excuses when they cancel the services pretty often lately not good enough

Paul Mitchell (Brighton, 2023-08-16)

#253

It’s ridiculous that the bus 48 is constantly delayed or cancelled for other services and that the company has no consideration for the impact it has on people

Dominic Leslie (Brighton , 2023-08-16)

#257

The service we receive on the 48 route is substandard and archaic. I am disabled and and suffer from arthritis, so when go go to town I want to know that I can get there and back without having to wait ages for a bus or be diverted to another bus stop miles away with the shopping that I may have with me. I understand that occasionally they may have miss a bus but for a long time now there has been constant disruption and busse missing nearly every day.

Teresa McMahon (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#260

The 48 service has always been inadequate, being far less frequent than other routes such as the 49, despite serving an area further away from alternative services on Lewes Road. The service has deteriorated even more in recent weeks and months with buses regularly pulled off leading to 50-60 minute waits. This is unacceptable for residents who may be living up to a mile and a half away from alternative services. As someone who has used the 48 day in, day out for many years, It is clear that the service is well used and should be made more frequent, not reducing in the way we are seeing.

Gavin Downs (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#261

I've had the poor service affect me frequently, waiting for over half an hour on many occasions or being forced to take an alternate bus or walk. This is particularly infuriating when it's the first bus in the morning and impacting my journey to work or my journey after work when I just want to get home and unwind but instead I'm forced to wait for long periods of time while other services are prevalent.

Vlad Sokolov (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#262

I rely on busses and I have been forced to use taxis to avoid missing appointments.

Maja Stare (Brighton , 2023-08-17)

#264

I live in Bevendean and have been affected by cancelled and late buses it stops me from going out and socialising with friends as I can't afford a taxi back. I feel very cut off here, my mental health would be so much better if the 48 was reliable.

Becky French (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#266

The 48 is unreliable and the only public transport to get into Bevingdean.
I work at the back of Bevingdean and cycle there on the potholed roads or get the bus.
The 48 bus does not come often enough and sometimes the 48 does not turn up.

Poppy Lindsay (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#268

The 48 bus service is vital for my to be able to access the rest of Brighton and to travel for education, shopping and work. Even when planning ahead I’m often left waiting long times both at my local bus stop or to come back to bevendean. Not only that but our buses are always the lower end and lower quality than other buses that serve moulsecoomb (such as the 49). Considering bevendean can only be accessed by 1 bus and it’s such a wide area and this bus service is letting us down, I feel left out and discouraged to my only accessible use public transport option.

Alishia Wilson (Brighton, 2023-08-17)

#270

I'm signing this because I am a carer worker and being late for work worries my clients with dementia also after along day at work I don't appreciate having to wait hour plus for a bus I also pay for a yearly bus ticket which means I am losing trips because I then have to walk to work or part the way home

Tara Thompson (Brighton, 2023-08-18)

#271

Many times I have been waiting for a number 48 which doesn’t turn up. Making me late for work and returning to home late.

Daniel Richards (Brighton , 2023-08-18)

#272

The service is diabolical, one bus suppose to be every 20 mins which isn't?and not good enough. Should be every 10 mins.we have elderly people living on this estate a school and families with children
with limited travel and rely on this service.
We always get late or buses cancelled because of traffic problems, which should be down to the bus company to take other bus routes off not the 48.plenty of 49's and 25's ? Which dosnt help residents that cannot walk the avenue length and more.its the worst service and needs addressing!
Maybe go back to two buses one up and down like the old 10 & 11 route..segestion anyone??

Teresa Eason (BRIGHTON, 2023-08-18)

#273

I have been late for so many meetings etc due to last minute cancellations of this bus. Also, as it's nearly always full, presumably a higher frequency could be easily justified.

James Knight (Brighton , 2023-08-19)

#275

We desperately need a better bus service, it is so unreliable and we have to wait hours with small children! Not acceptable!

I use the bus to get home from work on a weekly bases I can say the 48 is late or never turns up and end up waiting for 30 minutes or more for one.

#281

Buses are frequently cancelled, route is considered low priority

Wendy Rogers (Brighton , 2023-08-19)

#282

I rely on the bus to get into town and back home again but so often the route is curtailed without warning or signage. For example, it is often stopped at the Bus Garage on Lewes Road so another bus is necessary which then means paying a second fare which doesn't feel fair. I tap on and off so it doesn't really matter but it's different for others. Getting home is haphazard and often requires walking down from Warren Road, which others can't do.

Kieran Fuller (Hove, 2023-08-19)

#283

I'm disabled and rely on the 48 bus service to get me around. It's essential it runs smoothly for everyone's wellbeing and staying connected.

Jessica Beedham (Brighton and hove, 2023-08-19)

#287

No service. Bus drivers who are rude and will drive past you even with your hand out to signal them to stop. Buses aren’t regular or on time.

Because I am a Bevendean resident with a young daughter 3.5yrs and having recently had to wait nearly 2 hours for a bus home resulting in a distressed tired child I find the service totally inadequate for an area with a lovely family and community feel

I’m sick of the unpredictable and inefficient bus service that Brighton and Hove buses provide and I want change not just for the 48 but eventually for the whole service too.

I have been e.mailing the company everyday, since Wednesday 16th Aug. They keep responding that the buses are coming in to Hornby Road. They are not.Today is Sunday 20th,it is now 12.34 not a single bus has arrived today.I have just received an email from Kieran at Conway st. saying its all running round the entire of Bevendean.ITS NOT. I have emailed back saying no this is not true.I am sick of listening to there excuses.I have been late for work in the last week due to the fact the bus did not turn up,i asked the next driver to radio through, the people at the end of the radio, did not know that a bus had not arrived or the fact that a driver was not on his work schedule. They continuously make up excuses, and do not take into concern that people rely on buses for work etc.I pay £282.75p for a 3 month pass, definatley not work it.
Thanks.Paula.
PS.only found out about the meeting yesterday due to a letter from Lloyd Russell_Moyle .I received yesterday.

Paula Mulliner (Brighton, 2023-08-21)

#298

Whenever I go to use the 48 bus, after having checked with the buses.co.uk website for the schedule the bus is late or worse then bus that is scheduled is not there and there is 50 minute wait for the next one. We really should have confidence in this route.

Rob Lacey (Brighton , 2023-08-21)

#299

I’m a frequent user of the 48 bus service having lived in Bevendean for past 13 years. Last minute cancellations and alterations to the service is often a great inconvenience and very frustrating. I understand it might not be a service that has a regular high number of users at times but it is the only transport available to a lot of people in the Bevendean area

Suzanne Collins (Brighton, 2023-08-21)

#302

We use the bus once during week and at weekends but found for the past year the service has gone down hill and weekend just gone has to wait 1 hour and 20 mins

Chris Knights (Brighton , 2023-08-22)

I would like to make the requests to the bus company that this petition is making.

Esme Waldron (Brighton, 2023-08-24)

#308

The buses across Brighton & Hove are generally very good, but the 48 service is just dreadful - and yet Bevendean residents have to pay the rising costs of fares like everyone else.

Elizabeth Simmonds (Brighton, 2023-08-30)

#310

I regularly visit my relations in Beavendean and have been horrified by the lack of frequency of the 48. In my journey from London it is by far the most difficult leg, train to Brighton from London, train to Moulescoomb from Brighton and then 48. People say oh your daughter lives in Brighton but even though she has a Brighton postcode it feels like the back of beyond because of the lack of transport. People in the area complain about it vociferously and it shows a terrible lack of respect for the community here- what choice but to have a car, god forbid theirs breaks down with potholed roads. Older people tell me they have mounted petitions and campaigns in the past to no avail.should they expect fairness now?

Lynn-Marie Harper (London, 2023-08-31)

#311

The bus service in Bevendean is atrocious

Eddie Beer (Brighton, 2023-08-31)

#315

Because the service is unreliable. It is the only service that reaches us so it is essential. Other services, such as the 25, seem to be ridiculously over-provided while ours sometimes doesn't exist at all.

The app also needs fixing to not show services that don't exist, and to allow for journeys that end/transfer at the bus depot.

Steve Griffin (Brighton, 2023-08-31)

#316

Ive had to walk through the avenue in the dark when the bus hasnt come on time or was delayed
