Cleeve golf course is a unique and popular golf course and should not be closed. The course is a means to aid the health and mental wellbeing of all ages within the area.

Rob Miller (Cheltenham , 2020-09-11)

#1411

Cleeve Hill GC is part of the heritage of Cheltenham and has a special place in the hearts of Cheltonians. It's quirkiness, with sheep grazing and walkers, and its spectacular views should not be lost from the golfing and local community

Alan Dorman (Cheltenham, 2020-09-11)

#1414

I learnt on Cleeve Common and for 30 years lived in close proximity. The course/club is part of the fabric of a magnificent and uplifting place

Richard Kinder (Lower swell, 2020-09-11)

#1416

Generations of my family have played Golf here. Lovely place with a great history and should be kept going for as long as possible. Removing this will be unreasonably removing a community of golf loving people that’s been formed over tens of years.

Steve Robey (Gloucester, 2020-09-11)

#1418

Cleeve Hill course is a gem that I play regularly throughout the winter months. We have held inter village competitions here and the staff have been knowledgeable and very friendly on every visit. The loss of this course would be very sad. I hope something can be done to save it.

Tim Davenport (Worcester, 2020-09-11)

#1419

I have enjoyed playing cleeve over 35 years. I learned to play there. It is part of our community and a travesty it us being closed. People from outside of the area always refer to it as a well known and loved course.

Paul Gordon (Teddington , 2020-09-11)

#1425

Cleeve Cloud was my first golf club and the course is not only a county but a national treasure. Golf courses like Cleeve Hill are part of this country's great sporting heritage and more than worthy of preservation in an environment where we need to get people active and engaging with the outdoors

Paul Beynon (Gloucester, 2020-09-11)

I believe that Cleeve Hill golf course is one of the most important public golf courses in this region. It has a links feel and yet is inland giving us the opportunity to practice this unique style of golf without significant travel. It has more than a century of social history directly connected to Cheltenham and the surrounding area.

Michael Flooks (Cheltenham, 2020-09-11)

#1430

The clubhouse is iconic and full of character, I would hate to see it go.

I was a members until we moved in 1976. It is a.Wonderful naturalgolf course and has been since the 1890's. A great course to rest the mind and body. It has a many pluses which includes people of all ages to Learn the game.
Please keep the natural land of Cleeve Hill golf course for evermore. I learned club golf there from 1972 and am still playing at the age of 81

Brian Griffiths (Cheltenham, 2020-09-11)

#1446

It’s a great pay and play course for all ages to learn golf on. Particularly important at this time when not so easy to travel around, more young people should be encouraged to learn to play there. Never seen any conflict between golfers and walkers up there as there is plenty of room for everyone.

Sally Pratt (Cheltenham , 2020-09-11)

My late father in law, Morris Hughes, who was long term leading member of the Cheltenham community, bank manager, played at Cleeve Cloud for many years and introduced me as a member in 1968. A wonderful place. Please keep it open. It is special.

I have played golf on cleeve hill my whole life and see it as a sacred place for me and my friends. It was the birthplace of the shire cup.

Johnny Griffiths (Gloucester , 2020-09-11)

I believe it is a valuable golf facility for the community. Enhancing their physical and mental health in a great and historic location that should be retained for current and future generations.

Sandra Lewis (Cheltenham, 2020-09-11)

#1457

My wife plays in matches on this course ,it has some fantastic views and would be a terrible shame to lose this place for development

stephen finch (nr upton on severn, 2020-09-11)

#1458

Because I go up there and to the club what a beautiful golf club and golf course, if this gets shut down, it will destroy a lot of people and it's history, my son played there from the age of 5 and eventually played for the county please do not close this club

Annie Pearson (Gloscestershire, 2020-09-11)

#1460

I don't want to see such a historic course disappear into history, the course holds a lot of history and is made by the same man who created non other than st Andrews! It's a great course with great people and deserves to stay open for people to play for a long period of time!

DONT SHUT THE COURSE!!!!

Thomas Bath (Lydney, 2020-09-12)

#1462

Tewkesbury Council are trying to shut down my golf club with zero consultation

Paul Wright (Cheltenham, 2020-09-12)

#1463

It is absolutely ridiculous to close this amazing facility and allow the the landscape to be ruined - outrageous!!!

Simon Griffin (Cheltenham, 2020-09-12)

#1466

I started playing on Cleeve Hill as did many others I know, without this course golf will be the immediate loser, but society will be the overall loser with the loss of easy access to another outdoor pursuit.

Nick Holtom (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1467

Always play this course on a society days it's to unique to lose

Phil Wilde (WORCESTER, 2020-09-12)

#1469

Closure of Cleeve Hill course will deny hundreds of occasional golfers and those who cannot afford to join a private club, the ability to play golf at a reasonable price.
Cleeve is the only pay and play full 18 hole facility in the area and it must be saved.

John Sklenar (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-12)

#1471

Unique, inland links heathland course - should be preserved for future generations ..

Chris Kerridge (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

Kevin Harris (Worcester, 2020-09-12)

#1479

This is a public facility open to all, let’s keep it that way

Sara Greenhalf (Weymouth, 2020-09-12)

#1481

This is a great course and should stay open.
Shame on those trying to close it after this wonderful course has been open for so many years.
It’s allows the wonderful game to be played by so many who can not afford memberships at private clubs.

James Cartwright (Pershore, 2020-09-12)

#1483

I’m signing because the hill is a beautiful place that I grew up going with my friends and I want my kinds to be able to do the same

Jessie Connolly (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1485

The golf course and club house is part of history and should not be closed. The course itself offers amazing views to play golf and the clubhouse caters for the golfers and the wider members of the community using the bill for recreational purposes

Tamara Brooks (Winchcombe , 2020-09-12)

#1490

A golf course with character and terrific views.

Paul Maguire (Worcester, 2020-09-12)

ian galbraith (Gloucester, 2020-09-12)

#1497

Started my golf in Gloucestershire at Cleeve Cloud a great club and essential facility for young people to start playing golf.

Geoff Jardine (Gloucester , 2020-09-12)

#1498

It's irresponsible to close down a local facility which is open to all people.

Hugh Colby (Painswick, 2020-09-12)

#1500

As member of Cleeve Cloud GC it would be a shame to lose that much history. Also the club serves the general public with refreshments and toilet facilities.

Malcolm Squires (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1505

A unique golf course, that has been recently recognised by one national golf publication to be within the best 100 golf courses in England. Golf is a healthy sport, and is presently in a boom period due to restrictions on other sports and pastimes. Public access golf courses are vital to keep newer players coming into the game. It just needs better marketing.

David Watson (Amersham , 2020-09-12)

#1508

I have good memories of playing the course 40 years ago and would like to think that the course will be there for succeeding generations

JOHN KLOER (CHELTENHAM, 2020-09-12)

#1511

Golf is a healthy, socially and mentally engaging sport, where people don’t get injured the way they do in other sports. The golf course at cleeve is a much appreciated course by proper golfers and as such it needs to be kept and more people encouraged to play it. Crowdfunded or private invested there must be someone willing to take it on!

Mark Jacobsen (Bushops cleeve , 2020-09-12)

#1512

I would hate to see the loss of such an important asset to the community and one of historic importance.

Bob Herbert (Winchcombe, 2020-09-12)

#1513

I was a member at Cleeve in the late 80’s and learnt to play Golf on this course. It’s an opportunity for a lot of youngsters to experience golf on a course for the first time because of pay and play. It’s a natural golf course on a beautiful setting and should never be lost.

Rob King (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-12)

#1515

It will be a loss for Gloucestershire

Binu Peter (Gloucester , 2020-09-12)

#1516

As a golf course architect who has designed 5 golf courses in Gloucestershire I strongly believe that golf on Cleeve Common should be preserved. The unique setting and course layout has strong ties with Old Tom Morris and is highly regarded as a great golf course by many golf course architects, who compliment the fine strategic layout and its integration with Nature and the common. Golf and other users of the land including animals have co-existed since 1891 and in my opinion should continue to do so.

Adrian Stiff (Bristol, 2020-09-12)

#1517

The Golf Club is part of the local heritage and loved by many far & wide

Kevin Lynskey (Enfield, 2020-09-12)

#1519

This has always been an affordable golf club for the community. Tewkesbury council should not be allowed to suddenly end the lease when they feel like it. The club house is also well supported by locals and visitors alike. It is tragic that we may loose it

A Petchey (Cheltenham Glos, 2020-09-12)

#1522

I like playing golf at Cleeve and I think others should have the opportunity to play there. Golf is a sport enjoyed by thousands and we should do everything we can to keep course open

Eddie Robinson (Cheltenham, 2020-09-12)

#1524

Cleeve Hill is the birth place of all golf in the area.

John Dymock (Cheltenham, 2020-09-12)

#1526

I'm had the opportunity to play a few rounds at Cleeve Hill Golf Course when visiting relatives in Cheltenham. If this public course was not there, I wouldn't been able to play with my uncle or my cousins. It would be a great loss to the community to see it close and be redeveloped.

Robin Austen (Bowmanville , 2020-09-12)

#1527

I am signing because I enjoy playing on a regular basis on this course since my days at Dean Close School in Cheltenham

Antoine Garbaccio (Pornichet, 2020-09-12)

#1529

I strongly think that golf should continue on Cleeve Hill. The pleasure that’s been given to so many people in the past should continue into the future.

Norman Bevan (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-12)

#1535

I believe this course is one of the few remaining examples of courses sitting within a multiuse landscape.

Jon Wiggett (Conon Bridge, 2020-09-12)

#1538

I wish to save the club

Nick Lawrence (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1540

I'm signing because Cleeve Hill Golf Club is a great asset to Cheltenham. My father, Theo Webber, was a founder member and a seniors captain and we hold found memories of the club. My husband has also learnt to play here as it is open to all to play which is very rare these days. Please do not close the golf club!

Rachael Gasher (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1541

I love this historic golf course

Chris Mather (Cheltenham, 2020-09-12)

#1544

To save the golf course and with it more green and open spaces.for all

Julie Sansom (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1547

Now at the age of 55 and having lived in the county all my life and played golf there as it’s a public access I’m appalled that such history to the area can be just shut. Let’s just say NO and support our heritage.

Mark Jackson (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-12)

#1549

Cleeve Hill Golf Course is an essential part of Cleeve Hill, Bishops Cleeve, Woodmancote, Prestbury, Winchcombe and the surrounding area. Ive played there many times over the years and to see it go will be saddening.

Adam Bevan (Bishops Cleeve, 2020-09-12)

#1551

My husband played at Cleeve from the age of 9.He was a founder member and Captain of the seniors.

Irene Webber (Cheltenham , 2020-09-12)

#1552

Golf atop Cleeve Hill is a rate experience and it is apparent that the local council do not appreciate its significance. As a golf course architect who has traveled around the world, I encourage you to preserve it for future generations.

Tom Doak (Traverse City, MI, 2020-09-12)

#1554

This golf course is the only way some people in the area can afford to get out and play.

#1559

As a former member of Cleeve Cloud Golf Club and a resident of Woodmancote, I consider the golf course to be an integral part of the hill that has given so much pleasure and exercise for so many generations. Please find a way to save this precious resource.

Keith Parry (Woodmancote, 2020-09-13)

#1560

It’s one of the first courses I played on and it is so natural.

Edward Feighery (GLOUCESTER, 2020-09-13)

#1561

The history to this club is a part of our community DNA, whether we play golf or not. It matters to people in the immediate area and more widely that this would be simply ‘taken away’ in what feels like a completely undemocratic process. I and many others would have expected a wider consultation to explore options. I and others urge Immediate reconsideration of this decision.

Jill Cartwright (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

Neil Bannister (Cheltenham , 2020-09-13)

#1565

It's a glorious place to play golf.

Gordon Tyler (Ashton-u-Hill, 2020-09-13)

#1567

Golf is at the moment, clearly a growing sport. I don’t know a single facility that isn’t as busy as it’s been in a decade. Cleeve is a great course and should remain part of this wealthy town.

James Barber (Cirencester , 2020-09-13)

#1568

For many many reasons....!!!

Claire Green (Gloucestershire , 2020-09-13)

Thomas Gordon (Teddington , 2020-09-13)

I have played this golf course for 25 years. It is unique with a long history and must be preserved.

Andrew Barwood (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

This is a beautiful coarse, please don't let it go, it's like playing on top of the world up there. No two days are the same.

Keith White (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-13)

I used to be a member and I still play there every year. It is a special course. The view as you walk over the crest of the 13th fairway is one of the great views in golf!

Malcolm Sainsbury (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1579

I have lived in Bishops Cleeve all my life, I walked it as a child and played the course for 50years and a more relaxing course would be hard to fine.
It has been run with proffionism in all those years.

Robin Earl (Limassol , 2020-09-13)

It’s an exceptional space . Easily shared between walkers , cyclists, horse riders and Golfers . The building , although a shack , should be listed .

Stephen Reynolds (Cleeve Hill, 2020-09-13)

Beautiful golf course for all. It must be saved!

Jon Cutler (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

Cleeve Hill is an important facility which give people the opportunity to play golf at an accessible price in a magnificent setting

Andrew Worsley (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1589

With a resurgence in golf and realisation of the benefits of outdoor activity continuing provision of accessible golf is important. Cleeve Hill has many unique benefits to serve the area and welcome golfers from afar. As city golf clubs come under pressure to be developed courses like Cleeve Hill need to remain

Golf Suppoerter (Birmingham, 2020-09-13)

#1591

Cleeve Hill Golf Course has been an iconic feature of Cleeve Hill for over 100 years an must remain as such.

John Gardner (Cheltenham , 2020-09-13)

#1592

Although I don't play golf I have walked here many times. I think it would be a great loss to the community. Such a unique place

Emily Vines (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1593

Cleeve Hill Golf Course is an iconic and unique piece of golfing heritage. We protect castles, stately homes, religious sites of historic importance. Why, because they offer us an insight into who we once where, and how things used to be. Cleeve Hill GC does that, reminds us of how the game once used to be played and importantly was meant to be played. Preserve it, cherish it, and let's continue to play it. That is the level of respect this masterpiece deserves.

John Parker (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1594

Cleeve Cloud Golf Club is a unique piece of our local leisure facilities and offers golf at reasonable prices in a stunning environment with the best views in Gloucestershire for golfers and walkers alike.

Stephen Chuter (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1595

I walk around the course every Sunday and find it wonderful to walk among golfers, horse riders dog walkers, etc all extremely friendly. I belong to another golf club but play in matches, the odd round, and always enjoy the challenge of the course and the wonderful views. It would be a great shame and a great loss if the council carry’s on with the project to close it

Marie-Francoise Walker Latour (Cheltenham , 2020-09-13)

#1597

I grew up in Winchcombe and this golf course has been part of the area for years. It would be a great loss to the area and I certainly hope that no planning consent for any dwellings will be granted

Charlotte Harding (Cheltenham , 2020-09-13)

#1598

It would be wrong to close down a golf course which offers so much to the public
