I have been approached by members of the Sikh community to raise a concern with your department regarding controversial Sikh preacher, Ranjit Singh. Ranjit Singh is scheduled to perform sermons at Gurdwara Singh Sahba Surrey (8115 132 Street). Due to his controversial statements many members of the Sikh community are frustrated with Ranjit Singh and wish to protest during his visit to Gurdwara Singh Sahba Surrey. It has been brought to my notice that there are about 500 people from the Lower Mainland that wish to take part in the protest. I am reaching out to you to request from the City of Surrey and the RCMP Department to cancel this one day event that will held on Nov 28, 2019 due to public safety.
Protests by concerned Sikh Activists have taken place in many locations in Canada and the US that Ranjit Singh has visited. Most recent in Ontario Khalsa Darbar in Mississauga. We believe that Ranjit Singh’s controversial statements are creating a rift within the Sikh community. More and more members of the Sikh community are becoming involved and taking sides on social media as well as mainstream media as opposer of Ranjit Singh’s discriminating take on the fundamentals of Sikhism. Hence, we firmly believe that we should not invite Ranjit Singh Dhadriawala into this country as it shown over the years that he will go to all extend to divide the Sikh community.
