My grandad's course for 40 years, I'd like to take my kids for a round one day. There is nowhere else quite like it.

Tom Standen-Jewell (Guildford, 2020-10-01)

#2215

The golf club and the course are an exceptional facility. There is history as well as the superb countryside and scenery. It also provides safe outdoor exercise in these Covid blighted times.

Peter Smith (Cheltenham, 2020-10-01)

#2216

It's such a wonderful course with so much history

Lena Holland (Taunton , 2020-10-01)

Closing this historic facility would be a loss to the wider community and once gone it will probably be gone for ever.

Andy Imrie (Cheltenham , 2020-10-01)

#2220

I’ve played this course and it’s a gem, it should be kept .

David Jackson (Halesowen , 2020-10-01)

#2221

I think it is criminal in the current climate where organisations allegedly are concerned about our physical and mental health that the Borough Council are happy to sell the "family jewels" and destroy local heritage.

Keith Buggins (Cheltenham , 2020-10-01)

#2222

All my family have played golf on Cleeve hill over the last 45 years, with many happy memories. It will be sacrilege to lose this wonderful golf course

Ann Bruckshaw (Tewkesbury, 2020-10-01)

#2228

Cleeve Hill Golf Course is a gem and has been played on for 130 years plus. Once it's gone it's gone - we cannot allow that to happen

Paul Jolley (Gloucester , 2020-10-01)

#2235

Cleeve Hill is too good and too special to lose

Noel Muscutt (Bromsgrove , 2020-10-01)

#2239

Courses like this should not be lost but clearly this is a course that needs more support should it be saved.

Jon Steedman (Oxford, 2020-10-02)

#2240

This course should not be lost, so much history. Get this course advertised in USA and they would come to play it, no problem !!

Fraser Nicol (Bishops Cleeve, 2020-10-02)

#2241

I am signing this petition because this course is part of our golf history it’s 125 years old. It should be left for people to enjoy. Please do not closes it. It would be such a shame.

Michaela Keasey (Bath, 2020-10-02)

#2244

This golf club is well used and has been there for over 100 years. It’s a travesty if it is closed. It’s part of the community.

Robin Lloyd (Cheltenham, 2020-10-02)

#2245

I am signing this petition because I have enjoyed golf on the hill all my life, and love how it sits in harmony with all the other activities on the hill to create a unique landscape that will be lost forever.

James Taylor (Cheltenham, 2020-10-02)

#2246

It’s to good a golf course to close due to poor management

Kevin Lea (Cheltenham, 2020-10-02)

#2254

Golf played in open spaces, is such a gealth pastime, so please continue

John Wells (Welwyn, 2020-10-03)

#2255

Facility loss is great but needs funding. ? by Crowd. ?Buy share club and exercise right to renew? Will conservators need taxpayers money to replace golf income? Could become a wilderness if left to nature. Where do the public like to walk - golf course or rough land beyond?

John Doody (Cheltenham, 2020-10-03)

#2256

I'm signing here because it is a unique, well maintained golf course which does not detract the natural habitat. Very reasonably priced municipal golf course.
Not your every day boring parkland track.
Great history

Guy Brent (Cheltenham, 2020-10-03)

#2258

This is such a beautiful unusual golf course in a prime location it would be such a great loss to golfers in the county but also from further afield. Please don’t let it close.

Gail Howells (Bristol, 2020-10-03)

#2264

It’s part of Cheltenham!! it brings visitors, and is a unique coarse as well as for local members it would be a travesty to lose tie club I walk my dog in the winter on the hill and would be sad to see it go !!!

Margaret Browne (Cheltenham , 2020-10-04)

#2265

I’m signing because I love the course. I started my golf journey there as an 11 yr old and must’ve played it 300+ times in the 30 years since. I chose it due to location but also as a great value for money course since I couldn’t afford the much higher membership/ joining fees of other local courses. Always a good test, especially in the wind. Pro shop and clubhouse are always friendly and welcoming. I’ve also staged golf days there with our football club and we’ve always been well looked after. It would be devastating if the course was to close.

Paul Hockey (Cheltenham , 2020-10-04)

#2266

An historic and public golf course will be lost for future generations if this closes.

Martin Shurmer (Winchcombe , 2020-10-04)

#2268

Historical links with my Golf Club. Far too many positives for retaining Cleeve Hill, not least it’s history, the fact that it is a municipal course, an integral part of what makes Cheltenham a special place and its appeal to visitors. The views during a round are outstanding and reason enough for its continuation in its present form.

Kenneth Monk (Cheltenham , 2020-10-04)

#2271

I visited the course in July 2019on a trip to the UK when staying near Coventry and looking for an interesting course to complement Notts that I was able to play the day before. I looked Golf Club Atlas and found Sean Arble’s wonderful review. A fabulous afternoon in beautiful weather, amazing golf course with a range of weird and wonderful holes and lovely views of Cheltenham. It would an awful shame to lose such a memorable course with such a great history. Please let it live!

Scott Blair-West (Melbourne, 2020-10-04)

#2272

I want to support historical courses, especially Tom Morris courses. Would want to get there after this pandemic is over.

#2276

golf course has been there years and is a fab course and all my family use it

Teresa mezzone (glos, 2020-10-05)

#2278

It would be a crime to close this beautiful historic golf course that gives so much pleasure to all that visit it golfers ramblers and walkers, mental health is a major concern in these testing times to close Cleeve Golf would cause a lot of stress to many people, closing it is the wrong decision at the wrong time.

Michael Pardoe (Cheltenham , 2020-10-05)

#2281

I believe in this day and age to close a course that provides the chance to exercise and get fresh air is a travesty. We should be encouraging people to get out in whatever form possible.

Mel Davies (Kidderminster, 2020-10-05)

#2282

Clieve Hill is not only an asset to the local area, it is also a significant historic golf course in the annals of golf and should be saved

David Oates (Charlbury, 2020-10-05)

#2283

My local course

Les Thomas (Cheltenham , 2020-10-05)

#2284

Golf not only supports a local community it provides sustainability to a local economy system of wildlife to lose the golf course would have a detrimental impact on the whole area.

Gary Fagg (Stroud , 2020-10-05)

#2288

This course is too good to disappear.

Dave Cheng (Marlow, 2020-10-05)

Kathryn Naylor (Ascot, 2020-10-05)

Stephen John Sharpe (Gloucester , 2020-10-05)

#2293

Such a special unique place to play and an inclusive ethos to encourage more to enjoy this wonderful game

#2294

I love Cleeve Hill GC and spent many of my early golfing rounds up there.

John Phillips (Solihull, 2020-10-05)

#2295

I'm signing this because in the current situation golf has proven to be a great and safe way to exercise and maintain mental wellbeing, something golfers have always known. This course has over a century of history providing members with the benefits of health and wellbeing. Please don't close this course/club.

Anthony Downs (Fleet, 2020-10-05)

#2298

Please re-consider closing a fantastic golf course which Cleeve Hill is. In a few years time with so many people taking up golf we will need as many golf courses as we can get, Not only that golf is a very important health benefit for so many people,

Barry Gibson (Swindon, 2020-10-05)

#2300

I’m a new golfer who thinks relaxed ways into the sport, such as municipal golf courses, are important for the sport

Phil Roberts (Sittingbourne, 2020-10-05)

MARTIN ANGUS (NORTHWICH, 2020-10-05)

#2311

Stunning in every respect.

David Hughes (Birkenhead , 2020-10-05)

#2312

I’ve played Cleeve Hill Golf Course many times and it is so sad that golf may not continue in this wonderful setting.
I feel for the loyal members who may be deprived of their ‘gem’.

#2314

This is a unique course with magnificent views, it needs to be used by generations to come

Geoff Terry (Buntingford , 2020-10-05)

#2316

A golf course designed by Old Tom Morris and then redesigned by Dr Alister Mackenzie should be a gem in the crown of the council and lease holder of the land. A piece of history will be destroyed if the golf course closes and lost for the next generation of golfers.

Matthew Soden (Stourbridge, 2020-10-05)

#2317

I’m signing because this was one of the first courses I learned to play on.

Darrell Knight (Melton Mowbray, 2020-10-05)

#2318

It’s important to keep these golf clubs going.

Kate Dymoke (WoottonBassett, 2020-10-05)

#2320

This was the first course I played some 30 years ago and I love the challenge it provides, as well as the scenic views.

David Cunneen (Evesham, 2020-10-05)

#2321

This course fulfills a vital function developing young golfers

Stephen Trace (Tring, 2020-10-05)

#2323

I'm signing because like so many other golfers my first experience of golf was on municipal courses. We should cherish and value these courses that have enabled so many people who don't have access to private golf courses to take up a sport that teaches sportsmanship, good manners and camaraderie.

Brian Knowles (Notts, 2020-10-05)

#2326

It is a beautiful but challenging golf course with wonderful views, interesting holes, a lovely welcoming clubhouse with room inside or outside. I am only sorry that I just managed to play once last year but had been looking forward to playing again once we have defeated this terrible virus.

Geoff Nicholls (Solihull, 2020-10-05)

#2328

The best value for money course...anywhere. This course can not be allowed to close.

Pete Grayer (Worcester, 2020-10-05)

#2329

MY wife and I played the course a few years ago and thought it was a fabulous place.

Peter Parnell (Stockbridge, 2020-10-05)

#2331

It’s so important to keep these facilities to ensure accessibility for all.

Nick Layzell (Royal Tunbridge Wells, 2020-10-06)

#2332

I am a member of Gloucester golf club but have played Cleeve Hill on a number of occasions it is a great and challenging course and would be a sad loss to the local community.

Gordon Bossons (Gloucester , 2020-10-06)

#2335

It’s an important resource for local low income / children to play golf.

Peter Bevan (Basingstoke, 2020-10-06)

#2336

This is where I started playing golf in 1978 . A real beauty of a coarse.

#2337

Have played this course quite a few times it's a real gem with fantastic views.

Bryan Stockwell (Swindon, 2020-10-06)

#2338

This was where I first dipped my toes into 18 hole golf in my teens. It is one of the most accessible courses in the area for entry - intermediate players, who will be left with little alternative. The views are spectacular and it is always a pleasure to play (even in high winds...)

Jack Lawrence (Cheltenham, 2020-10-06)

#2340

Cleeve Hill GC is unique. It is the first course I played and in following years.

Keith Winter (Droitwich, 2020-10-06)

#2342

Its a great course with bags of character

Andy Peet (Worcester, 2020-10-06)

#2343

A great course where I played my first proper golf round. Low cost , always open, a links like course all can enjoy. Having worked hard to save a course myself I know its possible and with the surge in golf membership nationwide the council could make this work.

Paul Davies (Cheltenham, 2020-10-06)

#2345

The course has historical value similar to a Grade 1 or 2 listed building. It's also an amazing facility that welcomes golfers of all standards and incomes to be able to play golf, and on a course designed by one of the greatest golfers and golf course designers of all time.

David Long (Eversley Cross, 2020-10-06)

#2349

It's a great course that must be kept open

Keith Bailey (Bristol, 2020-10-06)

#2351

On a trip to Cheltenham I played this course and it was a delight. I joined up with other local players who were beginners. This course must be saved to ensure locals have accessibility to an affordable course to start them on the path in this wonderful game. The health benefits should be prescribed by the NHS!

David Belton (St. Albans, 2020-10-06)

#2353

I'm signing because i have seen from personal experience what closure of a local golf course can have on the community. Council in my opinion have a role to play in keeping the community fit and active, and playing golf and walking are a key part of that.

Simon Lea (Brighton, 2020-10-06)

#2354

It is an iconic course, and a great reason for visiting the region

Chris Smith (Addlestone , 2020-10-06)

Daphne Veale (Clevedon, 2020-10-06)

#2358

As a young boy I couldn't afford to join a private club and so I taught myself the game on Cleeve Hill and am devastated to learn that the Council are prepared to rip up history by destroying the course.

Richard Hardy (Stratford upon Avon, 2020-10-06)

#2359

Have played the course a few times, it's lovely up there

Steve Davies (Stourbridge, 2020-10-06)

Michael Gowan (Skelmersdale, 2020-10-06)

I learnt to play golf on the Cleeve Hill Golf Course in the early 1970's and it is a very special golf course that I believe should be kept and be available for future generations to play golf on

A legacy going forward.

#2370

We need courses like this. Accessible and unique

Geraint Jones (Cheltenham, 2020-10-06)

#2371

Clever Hill was were I first learnt to play golf as a child with my brothers, father and grandfather. To take this special golf course away from the people would be criminal.

Ben Dickens (Gloucestershire, 2020-10-06)

#2372

The historical significance of this place.

Tim Nicholson (Chicago, 2020-10-06)

#2373

This is a piece of history that deserves to be saved and especially in the current and continuing Covid era, provides a place of exercise and companionship which will make the area poorer if it is lost. It provides an inexpensive route to access golf for everyone and I have experienced the issues that occur when a low cost but beautiful golf course is impacted by council desires to save money and it is seen as an easy option.

Dennis Major (Lincoln, 2020-10-06)

#2379

What a wonderful golf course designed by a old master. Views are spectacular.
Golf is growing rapidly in the current COVID-19 pandemic and it is not the time to lose a course.

Steve North (Stroud , 2020-10-06)

#2380

I have played many happy rounds of golf on Cleeve Hill and enjoyed the excellent hospitality of the club house.

christopher reynolds (worcester, 2020-10-06)

#2381

It is a fantastic golf course that allows access to all to an incedible game. I can take students from inner city coventry to experience both the country side and affordable access to what is often seen as an elite sport.

Marina Smith (STRATFORD-UPON-AVON, 2020-10-06)

#2382

This course is a link to history, and a beautiful place to play golf

Michael Dowling (Far forest, 2020-10-06)

#2383

All golf courses are important social and environmental necessities that need to be kept.

Chris Davey (Derby , 2020-10-06)

#2385

This is where I learned to play golf - it is an amazing course that is a test for any golfer (especially when the wind blows). When considering the only other 2 golf courses on the other side of town, Cleeve is needed to balance the wealth needed to play golf at Cotswold Hills and Lilley Brook to the average man on the street to which there are many that cannot afford the prices of the others! What do the council plan to do with it? They can't build on it like they have everywhere else!

David Dean (Cheltenham, 2020-10-06)

#2390

This is a unique and stunning course, which I have played many times. It would be an act of sporting vandalism if this course was forced to close.

Billy McAlinden (Ledbury , 2020-10-06)

#2393

I have played Cleeve cloud as a visitor many times as have enjoyed the facility and wish to support all the club members who may lose their golf club.

Brenda Oxford (Bristol, 2020-10-06)

#2394

I'm signing because I've played here and enjoyed the course and too many courses are closing due to council cuts and pension contributions from council pots taking precedence.

Lee Egginton (TAMWORTH, 2020-10-06)

#2395

....my father in law showed me how to enjoy golf on this course many years ago; it’s one of the few places where you can play on a proper course at a very reasonable rate

Richard Hood (Gloucester, 2020-10-06)

#2397

I grew up in Cheltenham and played Cleeve Hill as a youngster

MARTIN WARD (PENRITH, 2020-10-06)

#2398

A wonderful place to enjoy golf and exercise.

Alan Robinson (Lydney , 2020-10-06)

#2399

This is a lovely historic golf course and a real test of golf especially when the wind is up. Which it very often is. It reminds us how golf used to be in previous centuries and it should not be allowed to be taken from us.

Rob Bolton (Cheltenham, 2020-10-06)

#2400

It is a wonderful course with excellent views, enjoyed by many Please save this course.
