The theatre royal panto is like no other, the cast make it. I understand that Berwick wanted to retire but don’t throw everything else out as well. just bring in some other talented actors to round out the cast and keep the daftness coming!!!

I’ve carried on attending the York panto regardless of where I’ve ended up living in the country and it’s been the highlight of my Christmas for over 40 years. It’s a real asset to the Theatre Royal as a performance venue and to York as a city, and its uniqueness in terms of not having soap stars and having the same cast members year after year is a huge part of its appeal. It would be self-destructive for the Theatre Royal to axe a panto with such a rich tradition and a loyal fan base.

Jacquie Luke (Alton, 2020-01-11)

#608

This is a family tradition for us and many other families - please don’t spoil it. You want to get youth into the theatre what better way is there to introduce them?

Sharon Head (Nottingham , 2020-01-11)

My wife and daughter go every year (wife 30+years & my daughter 9yrs ) it would be a terrible shame if the Panto stopped. I also have lots of friends who go every year and enjoy it Immensely.

Tim Little (York , 2020-01-11)

This years Panto was just as brilliant as all other years, this one full blown made me cry with laughter. A traditional none mainstream star studded panto is what people actually want. Transition, with re-occuring faces that people can warm to, trust and love.
Let it run under the mentor of Martin and co and I guarantee your on to a winner.

Steve Usher (York, 2020-01-11)

Our family have loved coming to see the panto for many years. I usually book for 10 of us and it is something we look forward to early new year. It has become a tradition and ca not think of a better way to bring in the new year. Don't even think of cancelling. Berwick is panto. I hope and pray you bring him back next year.

Sue Lewis (Selby, 2020-01-11)

#618

Its an institution of York!!
Come On Harry and Berwick...help save our panto!!!

Kathryn Thorpe (York, 2020-01-11)

Myself and my family have been going to this panto for years and absolutely love it.Dont axe it!!!!!

Jacqui Lowe (York, 2020-01-11)

#623

I'm signing because I've been going to this panto since I was little, my nanna took her daughter ( my mum) and my mum takes us and I take my kids, it goes back generations. The cast are amazing and so funny the show just wouldn't be the same without them. I had the pleasure of working with them for the 25th anniversary and it's one I'll never forget. Suzy and David were lovely and so kind to us who were just kids at the time. Please keep this going

Antonia Harris (Leeds, 2020-01-11)

It would be such a shame to lose such a fantastic cast and team. I’m disappointed they don’t have the creativity or innovation to change/adapt and reVitalise with our trusty faithfuls. How very short sighted of them.

Rowena Pickering (York, 2020-01-11)

#632

My family has been going for over 20 years. It's part of what makes York special, and anyone with a heart would see that. Obviously
a 'business' decision, but one that will come to be regretted. Stopping it just doesn't make sense.

Bill Clayton (YORK, 2020-01-11)

#633

We are incredibly saddened to hear that Martin, David Suzie and AJ will not be returning for another panto. We have been going to the theatre royal panto for years and although we missed Berwick, we still thoroughly enjoyed it. If it's time to move on I think the cast and the people that return Year after year deserve one last panto. A chance for all to leave on a high and say a proper goodbye.

Kesta Usher (York, 2020-01-11)

#635

It's the only panto I'd ever want to see.

Philip Parkin (Belper, 2020-01-11)

#636

I’ve been going for years as a family tradition. I do believe Berwick should cut all ties now and a new dame be appointed but the rest of the amazing cast to continue as they always have done.

Cath Loseby (York, 2020-01-11)

#638

I and my family have enjoyed this panto for some time, and wish to keep doing so. Please keep it going.

Malcolm Carline (Doncaster, 2020-01-11)

#644

I have come to this pants for 40+ years purely for this cast! Sack the cast and I won’t ever support the theatre again. May as well go to the GOH if a a shite run of the mill panto is want we want!

Alison Simpson (York, 2020-01-11)

#649

This pantomime has been a huge part of my life. It isn't just a show, it's part of the fabric of this community and future generations deserve it to be so for them too.

Jake Godfrey (Poole, 2020-01-11)

#651

I have been coming to watch the panto for the last five years as my daughter is one of the ensemble cast. We absolutely love it and make a weekend of our visit, all the cast are amazing and make it very original rather than the boring same old usual panto.

Sarah Price (Swindon, 2020-01-11)

#653

I am devastated to hear that our beloved pantomime is at risk!! It is & has been a big part for 3 generations of our Christmas entertainment. Please do not destroy such a tradition for the sake of change.

Margaret Gott (York, 2020-01-11)

#654

This is a tragedy!! It is world famous and appalling that it can be thrown away at such a snap decision.

Louise Pilley (York, 2020-01-11)

#655

I have attended this panto for the last 31 years - it is part of our city’s heritage!

Louise Schofield (York, 2020-01-11)

#661

I'm signing this because the cast of this panto have been fantastic over the years. They are an integral part to this show.

Joshua Schofield (Daventry, 2020-01-11)

#663

I have been going to this panto for the last 15 years, and it is a tradition that I would not like to see end, as I’m having my first baby this year, and would love to continue the tradition with him and my husband in the years to come!
The cast are original, and hilarious, and it’s nice to not have any washed up celebrities trying to make a come back in our panto, like so many others!
York Theatre Royal pantos are one of a kind and special, and with or without Berwick, the panto must be treasured and continued! Otherwise what will all of Berwick and the cast and crews hard work and legacy be left?

Iona Cavenaugh (Doncaster, 2020-01-11)

#664

Best panto in the uk , please do not axe it . It's what people look forward to every year a lot of fun and laughs .

Dawn Martin (Selby, 2020-01-11)

#666

We used to go the Panto as a family when we lived in York, and loved it.

Rachel Hurford-Coffey (Morpeth, 2020-01-11)

#670

We love it !

Jo NT (York, 2020-01-11)

#672

York Theatre Royal should not axe the pantomime and if they do l will never cross their door again. To see a show or pop in for coffee (l often do l was there this week meeting friends) shame on you if you cancel such a wonderful institution!!!

Julie Broadway (York, 2020-01-11)

#673

I've been coming every year since I was 12 years old. It's a tradition I've continued with my now adult kids

Kay Blackburn (York, 2020-01-11)

#677

Thousands and thousands of people look forward to the York Theatre Royal Panto every year and the reason is because of the brilliantly talented cast that perform and create the superb and astonishing performances.
“When a good and remarkable thing happens in life, just leave it alone”

Stephen Banks (York, 2020-01-11)

#680

I have been to countless performances of the York panto. It is unique and something that York should be proud of. The 'different direction' will be the death knell of pantomime in York, that's for sure.

Kay Bradley (Buckingham, 2020-01-11)

#681

I love this panto. Its the best one I've ever seen, and now the only one I go to every year!!

Emma Ventress (Ripon, 2020-01-11)

#683

I cannot imagine a winter without the Theatre Royal panto with incredible existing cast and non existent plot!

Rachel Cole (York, 2020-01-11)

#684

I went to see the panto this year and once again it was excellent. Martin Barrass did very well as the dame. It would be such a shame to stop it just because Berwick Kaler isn’t the dame. You need to give the panto a chance. The baddie David Leonard is amazing and so is Suzy Cooper. It makes part of mine and my family’s Christmas.

Kathy Aldworth (York, 2020-01-11)

#685

York needs the Pantomime at the Theatre Royal, for continuity , Been for the last 12years. Berwick’s unfortunately gone( nothing lasts forever) . Martin’s taken over, let’s move on.

Andrew Harvey (York , 2020-01-11)

#688

Save the panto!

Lydia Duckitt (York, 2020-01-11)

#692

Thus has been part of my life sibceci was 6 years old and now part of my family life please keep the pantomime!

Cath Kierznowski (York, 2020-01-11)

#694

My grandparents took us every year since I was about my daughters age and am just pleased we managed to take my kids and their cousins last year with their grandparents to share the experience. Even my neighbour in Cambridge loves the theatre royal panto as it’s *the* panto.

Mariko Brittain (Cambridge , 2020-01-11)

#695

I'm signing because I have been to the panto for 38 years and it is part of Christmas. We have introduced friends from Manchester who now come every year with us and our three children.

Rachel Bowling (York, 2020-01-11)

#698

I’m signing this because I don’t think the show should be axed

Lynne Heslop (York , 2020-01-11)

#700

This is a huge part of my boyfriends family’s Christmas tradition and is a thoroughly enjoyable for everyone

Anna Robson (Newcastle, 2020-01-11)

#703

I'm signing because I love this panto and my family have been going since at least 1981 I have so many memories of going there with late family - please don’t stop this I await every year ❤️❤️

Lizzie Young (York, 2020-01-11)

#704

I've been coming to the panto at york for the last 20yrs and I have brought my granddaughter with me for the last 9 years and we love it, it would be a loss to many familys that come to see it, the current cast are the best.

Christine Brown (Harrogate, 2020-01-11)

#705

I've been going to the panto at the Theatre Royal with my Mum ever since I can remember. My 3 children now come every year with us and we don't even live in York now. We all love it. They do not need a new audience, they have an amazing audience already who will keep coming back.

Carrie Artley (York, 2020-01-11)

#706

The cast are the only reason I keep coming back every year with my family. It would not be the same without them.

Alex Jeavons (Manchester, 2020-01-11)

#707

I can’t believe they’re closing down the panto. Our family have been going there for 20 years plus, the fact that the management are pulling the show show how much they are out of touch with the public. This has to stop and the show has to go on

Lynn Drury (York, 2020-01-11)

#708

My family and I have been attending this panto for years. We span 3 generations and all love it. It’s part of our Xmas . Please do not ditch it!!! We will not return if you do.!!!

Anita Pilley (York, 2020-01-11)

#717

Iv been coming for years it’s an amazing panto and will continue to be if the original cast are there. The loss in ticket sales this year is because the theatre has put prices up and tried to cut corners. The panto was great how it was when Berwick was there.

Amanda Midgley-bliss (Selby, 2020-01-11)

#718

My kids cried when they found out. It’s part of our family xmas tradition and they love it.

Lisa James (Leeds, 2020-01-11)

#719

Disgusting and terrible mistake

Natalia Prest (Sunderland , 2020-01-11)

Katherine Lee (SCARBOROUGH, 2020-01-11)

#725

The panto was a part of my childhood and should be there for future generations.

David Walker (London, 2020-01-11)

#726

I have enjoyed the york panto for over 20 years, with my parents and children. It is unique and a special part of our city.

Samantha Pugh (York, 2020-01-11)

#728

I have been to the York panto every year for more than the last 10 years. It gives me something to look forward to in the long cold month of January and I would really miss it if it wasn't on.

David Arden (Ramsey, Cambs, 2020-01-11)

#729

It would be an absolute tragedy for so many families to have their annual tradition ruined by not having this amazing cast and crew back as they do every year. I cannot believe after all these years they are axing Berwicks pants, it’s just so sad!

Louisa Leigj (Manchester, 2020-01-11)

#733

I am wholeheartedly behind the cast why else would we queue on the 1st March!😡

Karen Molloy (York, 2020-01-11)

#736

I think the way that they have treated the cast is atrocious, they have kept the theatre going for years, The management should be ashamed.

Jill Fagan (York, 2020-01-11)

#737

I am signing this petition because going to see this show every year is one of the last traditions that I have with my family and it will always be one I treasure! This production will always be a part of so many families and it will live in their hearts Forever! It’s not just axing a production it’s ruining tradition and happiness for hundreds of families

Alice Clarkson (Leeds, 2020-01-11)

#742

This panto starts our family Christmas every year.

Zoe Nicholson (York, 2020-01-11)

#743

I love this panto!! Been for 31 consecutive years!!

Sarah Allan (YORK, 2020-01-11)

#749

The Thestre Royal will regret it financially if they axe the Berwick Kaler panto. They need to engage their brains.

Steve Wain (York, 2020-01-11)

#751

the Cast of the York Panto are fantastic and I want to be able to see them act again next Christmas

Diane Durrans (Huddersfield, 2020-01-11)

#752

Im signing bexause i as a young child went to see Berwick Kalier in panto at the theatre royal and absolutly loved it. I'd love to have taken my little people to the shows. Im nearly 45 and went from being very young.

Emma Webb (Goole, 2020-01-11)

#760

Please explain to us theatre goers and panto stalwarts why you as a theatre think it's a good idea to suddenly axe this historical event. Us who have happily donated to the renovation fund and purely because of the fantastic Berwick Kaler, Martin Barrass, David Leonard, Suzie Cooper, AJ and all the other thespians who have year on year worked so hard to entertain us and get such superb reviews in the broadsheets.
Shame on you!!!

Pam Myers (Northallerton , 2020-01-12)

#761

This pantomime is a tradition and a great family event that we look forward to every year. If it wasn't for martin Susie david berwick and the cast we would loose something we have grown up loving.

Tracey Gowlett (York, 2020-01-12)

#762

I’m signing this petition because... Family is everything❤️

Charleigh Webb (London, 2020-01-12)

#764

The York Theatre Royal Pantomime is true family entertainment. Unlike other pantomimes it doesn't rely on Soap stars to secure an audience.

Pauline Lund (York , 2020-01-12)

#765

I love these people. They have been part of my family’s life for so long and a York Christmas would not be the same without them. Where else can you see a panto full of talented performers rather than a cast full of reality tv stars and nobody’s? With a script and set pulled out of storage from last year, what’s the point in that?

Stephanie Wood (York, 2020-01-12)

#767

the Theatre royal panto is a York institution.

Judith Pearson (York, UK, 2020-01-12)

#768

As a family of 9 we really enjoyed this year's pantomime. This is not about Berwick, but keeping the traditions of a York Theatre Royal panto with excellent, talented actors. We do not need so called celebrities like other pantos or daring alternative productions. This year was always going to be difficult, but it seemed like there was plenty of talent which could be developed to produce what York people want.

Linda Whitehead (York, 2020-01-12)

#769

I’m thinking about my best friend want me sign the petition for keeping theatre royal open.

Eleanor Higgins (York , 2020-01-12)

#770

we spent many years going to York panto.....I've missed it so much.
its part of Yorks history... please save it

georgie Owen (Whanganui, 2020-01-12)

#771

My family have loved going to this panto for years. The world wide fan base and the cast deserve so much better. Shame on you Tom Bird.

Don Wells (Nafferton , 2020-01-12)

#773

This pantomime is known throughout the country, even if Mr Kayler is no longer acting in it!

Adam Clarke (Hensall, Selby , 2020-01-12)

#775

We love the untraditional Panto, we’ve been going for over 10 years now and still find it utterly hilarious, you can see that the cast and crew put 100% into they dance routines, music etc, we also feel we have grown with the cast, it’s just one big happy family and we’re proud to be a part of it.

Julie Robson (Middlesbrough , 2020-01-12)

#776

The York pantomime cast deserve better than this. They have given us so much joy and laughter over so many years, and even without Berwick this years panto was fabulous. They have given so much to the York Theatre Royal and to York.

Helen Smith (York, 2020-01-12)

#778

As it’s been at the theatre royal for the 40 years that I know off. We used to go every year from when I moved to York at 10 till I left at 22. It’s is iconic and part of every theatre.
Stop soiling the theatre for thousands of people, if tickets aren’t selling then make them lower.

Kim Barclay (Telford , 2020-01-12)

#780

Seen for many years-so much fun.Would never go to a pantomime annually at all. This is a unique treasure.

Anne Allen (Middlesbrough , 2020-01-12)

#781

We have been going to YORK Panto for more than 30 years but fear this will be our last if it becomes some minor celebrity driven showboat over a couple of weeks. Loyalty should really count for more.

John Fagan (York, 2020-01-12)

#785

This pantomime is a staple of the YTR, which itself, is a staple and important part of York.

Josh Robertson (York, 2020-01-12)

#787

I have been coming to the panto since the early eighties and it would break my heart of it ended now

LINDA TORDOFF (YORK, 2020-01-12)

jose ingram (YORK, 2020-01-12)

#790

I have gone to this panto for over twenty years and it is much better than any other panto I have seen, either in York or elsewhere. It has to continue we love it !

Marion Filby (York, 2020-01-12)

#792

The Theatre Royal York is part of my early years history as is the Traditional Pantomime. This magnificent theatre does not require soap star actors.

Brian Morton (Bournemouth , 2020-01-12)

#794

I'm signing because these 'Berwick and crew' pantos have always been the best pantos for miles around. The format it brilliant. They are the reason we keep coming back! Please don't let it become like any other panto, for example like ones at other venues in the city...

PS I also enjoyed it this year too, having seen negative reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but I thought it was really really good and couldn't see what people were moaning about!

Peter Abell (York, 2020-01-12)

#797

I have been going to this panto with my family for as long as I can remember and look forward to it every year! My family have been going for over 20 years! The cast are amazing and there is no other panto like it. It would be such a shame for it to stop and I would love to keep coming for as long as possible - I really hope it'll be back next year and would be such a loss if it isn't.
