Our community benefits from the volunteers and the DofE gives our youngsters something to aspire too, businesses benefit from employing such fine young individuals.

my daughter gained her award last year and has gained some valuable life experiences , this should be available to all

(gillingham, 2016-12-12)

#422

The scheme is invaluable for self development and must be open to all-not just those that can afford it.

(chatham, 2016-12-12)

#423

I am currently employed to deliver Employability Skills to those individuals who have referred on to the Troubled Families Program many of who are young people who have been excluded, who have no qualifications, confidence, aspirations etc... as a mentor and coach to lose a scheme such as this where I can refer young people onto is disgraceful and completely nonsensical..

(Gillingham , 2016-12-12)

#428

I'm signing because I believe DofE is an extremely good way of getting young people involved in the community, thinking about others and doing activities they otherwise might not do.

(Gillingham, 2016-12-12)

#430

Dofe is a chance for young people to get involved in the community and make a difference, whilst developing themselves is more than one way.

(Chatham , 2016-12-12)

I have been a D of E leader in my school for many years and without Medway DofE the ward would not run in my school therefore 100s of pupils will miss out on this incredible opportunity as schools can not fund this.

(Kent, 2016-12-12)

#435

I work with young people who will be restricted from accessing dofe if this goes forward.

(Rochester, 2016-12-12)

#437

The D of E scheme is excellent, my daughter ahcieved her bronze and is working on her silver.

(Gillingham, 2016-12-12)

#445

I took part in the Bronze award and I think it would be ashame for such an amazing experience to be taken away from young people.

(Chatham, 2016-12-12)

#446

Access to the DofE Award Sceme should be limited by L Authority money saving. It should be open to all young peole especially those of limited means - they would be most likely to benefit.

My daughter is doing this award, it is brilliant the way it helps young people become independent and get outdoors. All children must have access to these opportunities.

(Rochester, 2016-12-12)

#451

My daughters should get the opportunity to participate in this wonderful opportunity. We are a low income family and you start to rise the prices and you'll price is out of this.

(Rochester , 2016-12-13)

#455

I know how much my daughter and other young people have benifitted from this scheme.

(Gillingham, 2016-12-13)

#459

DofE is an invaluable life-changing experience for many young people and should be fully supported. It would be incredibly short-sighted to scrap the council-led provision for what would be a very minimal saving.

(Rochester, 2016-12-13)

#460

The DofE scheme is incredibly important for young people. It increases confidences, finds unknown abilities and creates leaders.

(Guernsey, 2016-12-13)

#461

I've seen how DofE can teach young people about themselves, how they fit into a team and respect for everyone's place in a variety communities.

Young people deserve to excel.

(Medway, 2016-12-13)

(Rochester, 2016-12-13)

(Kent, 2016-12-13)

I believe that young people in Medway should be given the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn more than academic skills

(Rainham , 2016-12-13)

#508

I deliver the DofE in my school and see the value our students get from it and have done for the last 10 years with over 15 students completing it.

(Maidstone, 2016-12-13)

#509

The DofE scheme is something young people can achieve through schools and the Youth Clubs in their own time and Councillours should be proud of the local youngsters who take part.

(Gillingham, 2016-12-13)

#511

THIS IS IMPORTANT

(Gillingham , 2016-12-14)

(rochester, 2016-12-14)

#520

My son has successfully achieved his Bronze & Silver DofE Award and is looking forward to starting his Gold Award next year. Would be extremely disappointing if the support to our young people of Medway is removed.

(Rainham, Kent, 2016-12-14)

#521

Young people should be given this fantastic opportunity to believe in themselves and gain amazing skills and self belief to be proud of themselves. It's not all about results on a piece of paper!

(Kent, 2016-12-14)

#526

I believe in the Duke of Edinburgh awards, my great nephew has a bronze and silver and wants to go for his gold next year. We must encourage people to do this and the council must continue with its support.

(Chatham, 2016-12-14)

#527

It's important to keep DofE, young people need motivation to get out there and explore our world!

The duke of Edinburgh award was a shining beacon of light in an otherwise dreary Medway for teenagers. It was my first taste of independence and for myself and many students, the first time they learnt to believe in themselves. I was a participant and then because I believed in the importance of this award I became both a supervisor and then assessor (until university drew me away) and have seen children - who believed they were essentially a waste of space - blossom into kind, passionate and supportive team players when they had previously felt angry at a world that was against them. It is the poorest kids who need this award the most and outsourcing will price this out of their reach. And having worked in a school there is far too much red tape and paperwork to allow the award to be run effectively. Schools are very closed to eachother and so there will be no choice of expeditions, no alternative dates, no variety (e.g kayak, cycling, horseback) there will be no mixing of schools, no mixing of the more academically able with the more practically minded participants - and it is these moments of diversity where the participants learn that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses which is what makes teamwork a brilliant thing. We need the award in Medway to help create the accepting, tolerant and capable human beings that we need in this world. Thanks for reading!!

(Canterbury, 2016-12-14)

I Believe in the youth

(Rochester, 2016-12-14)

#548

I think everyone should have the chance to experience the DoFE. It allows young minds to explore dedication and learn what it means to stick with something and be persistant.

(Rochester , 2016-12-14)

#551

We should value the services we offer to our young adults and invest in their future not deny the opporttunitites!

(Kent, 2016-12-14)

#561

it's a good cause

(nottinfham , 2016-12-14)

#563

Here is something that works for youngsters and can't cost much in the scheme of things. Why can't the council cut something of less value rather than something which helps teenagers grow into something worthwhile

(Rainham, 2016-12-14)

#565

Participation in DoE affords young people an opportunity to expand their horizons and develop their non-academic skills/life skills. It encourages young people to take responsibility and experience both the challenges and satisfaction that comes from serving their community. Our young people are our future and we should continue to support them to be the best that they can be.

(Chatham, 2016-12-14)

#566

I did DofE award myself, and I honestly think it should be run in the future, as it is an opportunity for young people to develop them self, grow, develop independence and many other things.

(London, 2016-12-15)

#573

Every child should have this opportunity.

(Stoke on Trent, 2016-12-16)

#575

This money should be carried on because the duke of Edinburgh award is one of the most prestigious award s to attain and every help should be given to help young people attain their goals

(Chatham , 2016-12-16)

#577

DofE Medway have been doing a fantastic job for the young people of Medway, giving the opportunity to learn new skills and developing themselves, also this keeps them of the streets and the cost this could incur to the rate payers.

(Rainham, 2016-12-16)

#581

Young people should be encouraged to take part in this valuable initiative that has proved to be beneficial over many years in the development of many young persons' characters and their contribution to communities both local and national.

(Aboyne, 2016-12-16)

#583

My children both do DofE or want to in future and I did all 3 awards when I was their age - it's a hugely valuable scheme and would be a real shame for Medway support to be curtailed.

(Chatham, 2016-12-16)

#584

I used to live in Medway

(RAMSGATE, 2016-12-16)

#585

DofE is such an important aspect in a young persons life.

(Medway, 2016-12-17)

#587

My daughter has depression and anxiety and doing the bronze and silver d of e has helped her beyond all I could have hoped for. She desperately wants to do gold.
The d of e gives kids an opportunity to push themselves to something new and grow as people

(Gillingham, 2016-12-17)

#590

I started taking part in the DofE as a Bronze participant 16 years ago, and progressed to achieve Silver and Gold Awards.

I am now an adult volunteer for Medway DofE and it is one of my ambitions to help young people achieve their DofE awards. It will be a real shame if Medway Council stops providing the DofE as it will be a huge missed opportunity to develop the skills of young people in Medway.

(Maidstone, 2016-12-17)

#592

My son has just enrolled for this fantastic opportunity and I want my younger children to be able to have the same experiences. It builds character and we need more opportunities for our young people in Medway not less.

(Chatham, 2016-12-18)

#594

This is an important award that gives young people something to focus on and teaches them so many useful skills

(Rochester , 2016-12-18)

#596

I believe the DofE scheme is vitally important for young people. It augments formal education to promote well rounded learning and life experience.

(Chatham , 2016-12-18)

#599

My son has completed his Bronze and Silver awards and has recently enrolled for the Gold award. The life skills he has gained from this experience are invaluable and truly for life. It would be an injustice if this opportunity was denied future groups of young people.

(Rochester, 2016-12-18)
