I lived in Greenhithe and had to move because the crime was getting so bad. I still have friends living in and around Swanscombe and the street light switch off is a ridiculous idea. Everyone knows the crime rates are going up. Does the Council really want victim of crime on their conscience?

This switching off needs to be stopped, before it's even started. This venture would only serve to aid criminals....by cover of darkness. The crime rate is bad enough in this area already.

Appreciate savings have to be made , but this is crazy risking health and safety and an increase in crime.

This switch off is absolutely ridiculous! The lighting was not really adequate before the switch off. We were recently burgled - garage broken into and a motorcycle and tools taken. Don't make it easier. SWITCH THEM BACK ON!

I have already complained to KCC and have been fobbed off with a generic reply. I know of three break-ins in the immediate vicinity in the past two months - by turning off the lights we may as well just leave our doors open with a This Way sign. The first I knew of the "trial" was a few days ago!

My son is a year n half, he often has to go to hospital due to being 12 weeks premature. He has been rushed to hospital in the middle of the night before, how can I feel safe getting from my front door to my car in the dark !!? Its disgusting.

I had no idea the streetlamps would be turned off at midnight. I have a streetlight outside my house and felt very safe at night. After the Lights were turned off My neighbour opposite was burgled. This was a huge mistake as Swanscombe has a high crime rate. Let us all sleep safely and put the lights back on.

QUERY: WHY IS THE ADVERTISING COST IN EUROS?

Hello
For information, I was contacted by KCC to tell me the lights would not be switched off as there were
speed bumps in Swanscombe.
I do not have positive confirmation, but I am going
to try and get it.

The first i knew about it was when I came home late one night and found the entire area in darkness. Since we pay for street lighting as part of our council tax, can we expect a rebate?

I'm deaf and I don't hear things at all, coming home from work in dark would be hell for me cos I usually rely on my eyes sight to guide me home safety! With blackout I properly be dead or hurt or get beat up by thugs......I'm begging you please do not turn street light off for our swanscombe safety.

I hope we manage to get the lights turned back on. Swanscombe is very poorley lit as it is, especailly Milton St and Milton Rd. As a crime hot spot I think that the lights should definately be left on.

I was never informed about the lights being turned off , and there are a lot of older people in my road , let alone the break in's we have had since the great turn off , even the police disagree with this light turn off . don't that tell you something .

The first I knew of the lights being turned off was when I came home late one night and got to park road and had to use full beam on my car headlights to see up it , and that was all the way home to keary road . ideal for crime , not for the residents of swanscombe .

absolutly ridiculouse, the money spent on increased police workload and repairing vadalism far outways any savings made, after all we all know it about money, not the enviroment, and ther not strapped for cash
