Finally stalybridge is getting traders back on their feet and generating more business for them when thousands of people come to the market! Disgrace the council turning business away which is helping thsir borough

there is certainly much more use this building could be put to rather than leave it empty. how about a proper market again?

On days when there are events on in Stalybridge, the town feels alive again. Reducing fees will mean it can be used more often - increasing revenue for the council and local retailers.

Rather than it sit empty why not reduce the costs and earn some money, silly council!

Convert it back to a Market Hall, at the same time re-start the open market !

Businesses in Stalybridge are doing fantastic work bringing some life and businesses to the town. Now the Council needs to help and offer some support too. The costs at the moment are ridiculous, so the hall stands empty most of the time and makes no money. If costs were reduced  it would be more accessible and would again make money.

Tameside council , hang your heads in shame , help us to keep our craft market in stalybridge , you could surely reduce the costs of the hire to a building that would otherwise be locked and earning you nothing , support your local community and small businesses in stalybridge and bring people back !

The market has helped Stalybridge build a better name for itself and it is well past time the council really got behind it. If the council allow the market to go elsewhere it could well lose rates when local businesses shut due to lack of interest. Lower the prices it is a win win.

Stalybridge is trying to get on it's feet and with the council charging high fee's is awful we need it back like we did years ago. I do the craft fairs in the hall and we can't afford to do 2 days Saturday and Sunday because they cost so much to hire the hall, cut some of the big boss's wages in all departments and give them a normal wage like you would pay a low income there no better than we are but they get paid stupid money and what for ????? Keep our Hall open and cut the hire cost before it's to late and it close's for good

Having this wonderful building locked up for the majority of the time because they are charging a rediculous amount is insane. To bring a regular market back would enrich Stalybridge in so many ways. Open your eyes councol and see that these markets are bringing large amount of people into the town o

Local Councils need to move with the times. If public buildings are left empty because the rent is too high then you will not receive any rental income at all. It makes good economic sense to reduce the rent, keep the buildings in use and generate income for the Council.

Stalybridge is becoming a little thriving town again and with it bringing our community back together. It would be great to see the Civic Hall being used to host more such great events in the future. Please review this situation & consider the people creating such positive opportunities
In our town. They shouldn't be penalised by high hire rants, it's unfair in this climate. Council- Would rather make money than, no money at all?

Our 'Council' is letting us down badly and in my oppinion has been doing so for many years. One ludicrous decision after another, followed by the waste of millions of pounds of public money and the pandering to the whims of large retail stores at the expense of loyalty to small traders and retailers...and indeed the people of Stalybridge who put them in power in the first! Their lack of foresight has led this town...and indeed Most of the towns in Tameside, into massive decline that we are now, as a community struggling to get out of. Have some deceny and backbone TMBC!!, do the job that you were elected to do...which is to SERVE THE PEOPLE OF THIS BOROUGH..(just in case you'd forgotten). Help our towns and traders get back on their feet instead of letting public buildings go into the control of private companies. Reduce the fees and help us all to bring some life back into the town whilst there is still a chance. :)

Everyone must sign this, wherever you live. Too many Councils are ruining their towns and villages with high, unaffordable rates and rents, and blaming the government cutbacks. They are not playing fair with the residents. Michael

typical bureaucracy. Tameside council would rather see the civic hall stand empty an unused rather than
keep fees within a reasonable price

Totally agree with the comments above. Send a request to TMBC under the heading 'Freedom Of information'. Ask to see a balance sheet for Stalybridge Civic Hall. Under their own rules they are bound to respond. In the request also ask about the solar panels on the roof of Stalybridge Civic Hall. I believe they are now making a profit. Where is that money going ? Once you have the figures then you can decide whether you can muster enough local enthusiasts and passionate people to make a community take over bid. Good luck with your petition. Stan.

Diabolical that a public building is sold off so that that someone can charge extortionate fees. The rich get richer, the poor poorer, not to mention corruption!

Surely if Stalybridge wants to change its image and events like the handmade market are popular and enjoyed by many its a fool of a council who may drive it elsewhere by increasing hire charges. It would be more cost effective to reduce them and make the hall more viable

Yes the pricing is extortionent considering the market hall was gifted to the peoples of stalybridge far better to priced the same has Saturday it's just logical more bookings more revenue raised more that covering running cost far more groups would be interested the Craft side perhaps then could afford 2 days

The fees for this building are horrendous. We looked at using it for a wedding venue, but way out of our proce league. Stalybridge town centre has doed
We need to do EVERYTHING we can to breathe life into it again. Stalybridge council should be totally ashamed of the village as it stands. Every shop that opens shits again within eighteen months. The town is dead
. Yet Tescos is thriving and growing. We need change!!!
