#76 Keep the Centre Open!

2015-03-06 17:10

During my pregnancy last year I found that I was likely to be bringing up my baby by myself.  My midwife put me in touch with Elaine when I was 26 weeks pregnant and arranged for me to meet with her.  The centre has provided me with much support both emotionally as well as providing opportunities to meet other mums and allowing my son to interact with other babies.

Elaine, Trish, Julie and the team are fantastic and so enthusiastic and genuinely care.  This resource for the local community must not cease to exist.  Without it, myself and many other families will be reliant on their cars and local transport to go to various groups and 'get out the house'.

Keeping everything crossed that Surrey Heath see sense and keep the centre open for all of us who need it now or in the future.

I signed this petition as it would be a real shame to lose the sure start centre in mytchett, the team there are really helpful and friendly my son really enjoyed being there before he started at the nursery.

Because families aren't around enough to support new mums, so communities have to provide the framework that helps keep mums informed, helps prevent post-natal depression, and helps with parenting issues. SureStart Centres are the community family.

My daughter and I use this centre a lot with my twin grandchildren. They love going there and all the staff are so helpful and kind.

My friend uses this centre a lot with her twins and I have been privileged enough to go to some of the play sessions with them. They love going there and all the staff are so helpful and kind.

I attend two of the groups, ran by the surestart centre, each week. I feel they have really helped my childrens social skills & prepared them ready for school. Elaine & the team are always friendly & approachable & make every session a joy to attend. The sessions are within walking distance of my home & the times are perfectly slotted in with the school drop off & pick up. It would be a tremendous shame if the centre was to close.

Please keep the surestart centre open!!!!

I signed the petition because the Mychett sure start centre is an amazing place, and deserves to be kept open

After having my son I felt isolated and had low self-esteem. I started coming to the baby groups that the mytchett sure start centre run and I meet other mums that I could talk to that seemed to be in the same situation. All the staff and other mums were very welcoming and friendly. It gave a chance for my son to meet and play with other babies.
I don't drive so it is a god send with just being with in walking distance for me.

It's far too valuable to lose for so many families.

The centre does excellent work supporting people with young children. Where will they go if the sure start centre in Mytchett closes? There is more likely to be people at the point of crisis because the support wasn't there earlier on for them.

Family life goes thru some difficult times and needs to know somebody cares and this is where help can be found and the support really makes a difference to coping and handling difficulties.

This is a brilliant place and staff is so helpful! I can’t believe it can get closed, it’ll be a great loss for all families in the area.

If children are not able to get the help they need to get the right start in life, the country will be overrun by a generation of children who are lacking in key life skills & unable to advance to become productive & valuable members of society. Cut costs elsewhere. Our children need the best start in life we can give them. If this centre is to close, our children will be deprived of this & all the families that go there will be deprived of the help & support they so desperately need. Do not let this centre close!

My daughter used the facilities on a weekly basis with my 2 year old granddaughter and would miss it greatly as it is walking distance from their home.

The Sure Start Centre does important work in the community providing help and reassurance to many people and is something we need to keep and further support.
Good Luck!
