A Healthier Urban Market / Meal Plan

Are you tired of Burgers, Chicken tenders, and little to no nutritional options on your meal plan? Sign this petition to Stand Up for the inclusion of healthier options at Urban Market. The food provided at Urban Market at the University of Lethbridge seems to be a strong influence on the "freshman 15" ideals. Providing low nutritional value at a place of common use for residents and students at the University promotes a future of issues such as obesity, malnutrition, and heart disease among other life threatening problems to the students. If we don't make a change now, students of the University of Lethbridge will be subject to these and many other more serious side effects of malnutrition than scurvy (lack of Vitamin C).

Another issue is the cost. The fees asked to pay by first year students living in residence for this meal plan are outrageous considering the lack of nutritious options provided by Urban Market. For us to be paying as much as we do and then to be fed fast food is unreasonable.

Wilder Research published an article in January 2014 promoting the influences proper nutrition has on academic development (citation below). The article explains that diets, such as what is influenced by Urban Market, can contribute to low cognitive, concentration and energy levels within students.

Help our students begin our adult lives as happy and healthy individuals through making a change to the food provided by Urban Market at the University of Lethbridge. Sign our petition for a more nutritious future for our UofL student body!
