Stricter sentences for animal cruelty

calling on David Cameron to urge the British Government to act on stricter sentences for animal cruelty and a licence to be held for dog owners.
As most are probably already aware of, on Friday the 25th of April a Staffordhire Bull Terrier in Kirkcaldy was the victim of a horrific attack where the animal was tied to a tree, doused in a flammable liquid and set on fire while still alive for reasons unknown. But never in a month of Sundays could such a crime have anywhere near a valid reason. Such an evil attack on an innocent animal can’t be dealt with lightely. The maximum sentence for such cruelty to animals is up to 51 weeks in prison with a £20’000 fine. Animals can be compared to children. They are defenceless and do not know any better. A dog bites a person and is put to sleep. No ifs, buts, or whys. Humans are supposed to be a more advanced race who do/should know better. A human performs such a horrific attack on an animal and faces a maximum of 51 weeks in prison. Ask yourself, how is this in anyway fair? This is why I am holding a mandatory minimum sentence for crimes calling for stricter sentences to be imposed on such cruelty to animals.
I also remember reading about a 19 year old male who managed to become an owner of another Stafforshire Bull Terrier named Tyson. The male faces up to 6 months in prison for another sickening attack where he struck the poor dog around 20 times on the head with a hammer at around 3am with no explanation given. Three hours later, He then chased Tyson around the kitchen, trapped him between his legs and stabbed him in the chest with a 6inch kitchen knife. It took Tyson an agonising 8 hours to die from his wounds lying on the floor immoble and vomiting. The male gained ownership of Tyson when he answered an advert for the dog on gumtree. This is why I am calling for a licence and/or background check to be required for people to own a dog to ensure these loving and loyal family pets are going to decent homes and not to sick minded individuals. Six months is a pathetic sentence for such a barbaric attack on any living creature.
Again, I am calling for stricter sentences to be imposed for animal cruelty and licences to be held before people to have ownership of dogs. The dog in Kirkcaldy is being called the most evil attack on an animal recorded in Britian. Unless we all take a stand and do something it will only get worse. I am a dog owner myself and I truely believe that dog is a mans best friend. So I please urge anyone and everyone to sign this petition to get the attention of David Cameron and the British government. If you are like minded and if you have friends who love their dogs and pets please forward this petition. Please dont leave it for someone else to sign. You sign it and be a part of showing your appreciation to these loyal and loving pets. Let's put a stop to this and have the perpetrators feel the long arm of the law.
