Stop the proposal for a netball centre and keep Booth Park a open green space for the community to share.

Kurri Kurri is home to many families who have been here both a long and short time. The green space at
Booth Park is utilised daily by many locals for many different activities such as walking dogs, recreational exercise, football training, outdoor family time, cricket, and many other activities. Booth Park is a central common space for the local area. This space should continue to be able to be available to be utilised by all locals not just a select group of people. We feel the loss of the majority of the park as stated in Cessnock City Council’s proposal would have a profound affect on the local Kurri community.

The proposed netball centre will see the beautiful trees ripped down in the centre and around the grounds, and the majority of the open space being taken up with either car parks or the 12 proposed netball courts.

The local community does not want the traffic or the noise that a netball centre will bring, nor are the surrounding roads in any fit state to accommodate the traffic. There is not enough on street/parallel parking as suggested by council to accommodate this big a facility even with a car park as proposed.
Calculated roughly if all courts are in use: 12 courts, 24 teams playing on all courts x 2 alternating time slots roughly for a carnival x avg 9 players per team = 432 players which potentially means 432 cars with only 115 being allocated on and around Booth Park not including committee members, volunteers and umpires vehicles.
The proposal for Booth Park to be turned into a netball centre would have a detrimental affect on the livelihood of the local
Community.
