Re-Launch Petition 'IMPROVE GP ACCESS ACROSS PEMBROKESHIRE'

The systems at the practice have to change. If you want to see a doctor you've only hope is to be on of the luck ones to get through in the first few minutes. Many is the time I have been on hold at 8am for over 20 minutes only to be told all appointments for the day had already gone. It should also be free to call, especially when you're kept waiting for such a long time before someone answers. I would also like the prescription system made to benefit the patient rather than the practice, it takes an age to get your repeat prescription done and god help you if you need to make a change.

The whole system at Argyle Street surgery is abysmal. Why should I have to tell an untrained person on the phone what is wrong with me. The whole doctor booking system is absolute crap. We should go back to the old system of just turning up and waiting to see a doctor.

It’s a disgrace .

GP access is becoming harder and harder. The government are allowing it to run down. We need to show this is very important for voters to help focus politicians minds.

It is a nightmare trying to access a GP!

I can't seem to get an appointment or a promise of an appointment and have had to call 111 for hospital appointment for potential ear infection....waste of valuable hospital time

Richard Washington (Pembroke, 2022-08-06)

Over the last few years I’ve given up hope of getting an appointment multiple times and ended up winging it or relying on friends in medical professions providing guidance, advice and doing my best with over the counter medication etc

Daniel Harris (Pembroke Dock, 2022-08-08)

I agree with the petition and change is needed

I have been trying for weeks on end it's not a competent system for appointments I have complained to hywel daa direct to be told that I had to speak to the practice manager I should not have to go this way was told by staff no appointments then when I asked to spk to the manager was given a emergency call now I had surgery and required meds which I was given 5 days supply took me a further 6 weeks to get another 5 days worth I have suffered sever pain as a result and I am now house bound because of the pain I'm in not only from surgery but also long term pain etc why does it say all GPS should be accepting face to face and appointments should be booked like it was pre covid this surgery are making a mockery out of NHS as they get paid per patient so I think it needs investigating urgently and also a recent survey said argyle patients are happy with the service I know no one who has been asked to take part in this survey and beginning to think it is a fraud

The current system does not work, and in no way is it meeting the - often critical - needs of the people that desperately need healthcare. Ever since I have lived in Argyle surgery catchment zone, my health has gone from bad to worse. This is unacceptable.

It is so difficult to get a gp appointment when needed. You can ring at 8 am and by the time it's your turn there are no appointments left.

Linda Davies (Pembroke, 2022-08-16)

#226

I'm sick of not being able to get an appointment or getting a diagnosis over the phone.

Sam John (Pembrokeshire, 2022-08-17)

#227

They need more drs there. Also the removal of inhalers from repeat prescriptions is dangerous. Some people may abuse them but most of those who need them don’t. Try telling your child that they can’t have the inhaler they need to relieve their symptoms because the dr who can’t see them said no and the one you had in the house is out of date!

The very taxing system in use to attempt to get an appointment.

The 8am lottery is an avoidance of the surgery's duty to actually provide healthcare to their patients.

I recently had a cal! From a doctor at argyle street, concerning my problem, why didn't you call earlier she said, she clearly doesn't know what's happening right under her nose. When we moved here 4 years ago we had a full compliment of doctors at our surgery at st oswalds in Pembroke, now it's either a phone call or a trip to
Argyle at by bus.I've got other shocking stories too.

The staff work hard in difficult circumstances but the system is broken.

Access to doctors, nurses etc is abysmal. Telephone access is the same abysmal. No appointments but if you call in during the day the place is totally empty ( of patients ).

My signature represents my concern for 40+ family members living in Pembroke Dock and Pembroke areas. It is atrocious that they are experiencing such a lack of medical care!

I'm signing because of how hard it is to make contact with the Surgery on the same day you have to call, as you cannot prebook an appointment.so you are left to call back (sometimes over 100 times before getting on a phone queue to be told there's no appointments). If you can get through, you can only get a call back from a doctor or nurse practitioner, who make a diagnosis without seeing you, and it is normally wrong. The doctors are determined to keep this system going, and considering the size of the practice, they can afford to pay a bit more to hire doctors, instead of lining the pockets of the senior doctors. I'm a patient there, by default, not choice. Open a new practice with a better run system, I'll leave Argyle Medical Group.

I'm a retired nurse, also disabled. With my son, (carer) I arrived here in Feb 2020, signed on, and nothing except the District Nurses for Flu and Covid Jabs. Unable to get through at 8am any day. My son is also showing signs of incipient type 2 Diabetes. I'm desperately late for blood tests, amongst other things. One of my knees is grinding and swollen, and the other is coming out in sympathy. I also fear that arthritis is setting in in my hands especially. If we cannot get through, how can one get appointments? It really is beyond the pale. If it is a case of more doctors needed, get recruiting! the nurses I have seen at home were excellent, and the receptionists are doing their best under poor conditions and I'm sure they get more than average Aggro from patients!

A lot of improvemnet needs to be done at Argyle Practice access to see a doctor is well impossible and a nightmare ok we had covid which caused big problem but also there was problems long before covid one being lack of doctors in Pembroke Dock & Pembroke sadly .

#259

As someone who works week days in a busy job with no phone signal I can only ever attempt to get an appointment on a day off and if that doesn't work I just have to wait for the next day off! I'm lucky to have only needed the doctor for minor problems since I've lived in Pembroke but I really feel for people who need the GP more than I do. The current system is totally broken.

Olivia Nunn (Pembroke, 2022-09-03)

#264

I'm glad I don't need a doctor because if I did I wouldn't be able to see one and I wouldn't even bother trying because there's no point. What are we paying our taxes for?

Colin Barnett (Pembroke Dock, 2022-09-04)

This is a community issue and should be treated as such. The present system does not serve the community and requires
re-organisation.

I mýself luckily have not needed an appointment,
but my wife does suffer with ill health so we often start dialling together at8am trying to get her an appointment usually with no joy, we have done this in excess of a week.

Trevor Challoner-Miles (Pembroke Dock, 2022-09-05)

#268

I'm signing because
When you are ill, the last thing you want to do is, sit on the phone every morning constantly redailing the Argle centre from 8am till of such a time that you get through, 8:15 if you lucky to be told, all appointments are taken, try tomorrow, which in my case can be up to 3 to 4 mornings us.

Wendy -MILES (Doc Penfro, 2022-09-05)

#269

I’m signing because I’d like to move back to Pembrokeshire but the one thing that stops me is the poor level of healthcare in the area, starting with the Argyle Street surgery. I find it beyond comprehension that you may not even get through to the surgery and cannot simply book an appointment.

Gil Evans (Cardiff , 2022-09-05)

#271

I'm fed up of not being able to get appointments when I need them. By the time you eventually get through all the appointments have gone. This means that people don't get seen, get worse and then end up in hospital which surely costs more than being seen by medical personnel.

Bring back the incentives to doctors to come to Pembrokeshire, bring back Matrons instead of so many layers of pen pushers and make sure that funds are spent wisely and contracts don't go to the most expensive tenders.

Elaine Hickling (Pembroke, 2022-09-11)

I struggle to get through on the GP phone lines when In need of a GP appointment. When I do finally get through I am told all appointments are taken. Why can't I prebook a non urgent appointment?

Sandra Eley (Pembroke Dock , 2022-09-26)

#282

The access to medical services in Tenby is incredibly poor and is leading to a loss of quality of life for its residents. You cannot book appointments in advance, you cannot book appointments unless you are free at 8am, which many of us are not as we are taking our children to school. We cannot book days off work in the hope that we will be lucky enough to get an appointment. I needed to see a GP 4 months ago. I spent 3 weeks calling every day at 8am before I got an appointment. Yesterday, I called up because my son has a bad ear infection. I was told that Tenby surgery did not deal with this and told me to go to MIU. I went to MIU, it was closed and the receptionist told me to go to the doctors as this was an issue for GP's.

Suzy Phelps (Tenby, 2022-09-27)

I believe the Argument Medical Group Surgery is too big and their communication strategy needs reviewing.

#285

The current method of trying to see a GP is unfair
& stressful. I am sure many people cannot access a doctor when they need one, and so don't bother, storing up trouble for their future. For those who work full-time, calling again and again before work is not an option. It also should not be left to reception staff to decide who gets priority. Seeing a doctor when we need to should be our right.

Pam Buckle (Pembroke, 2022-10-18)

#287

I am a user of Argyll Medical Centre and find it extremely difficult to access medical services. I know of no other service where one has to call 20, 30, 40, 50 times just to get into the queue and eventually speak to a person. I also fail to understand why one can't make non urgent appointments in advance. Finally, I feel that if the AMG were better at sharing information with users, the latter would better understand the challenges and be able to contribute to finding solutions. Shutting people out just makes them feel like the AMG has something to hide.

Sally Ross (PEMBROKE DOCK, 2022-10-25)

We have excellent GPs in Fishguard, but accessing them is difficult. For people such as myself, living in a 'not-spot', it can be necessary to make the physical 4 mile journey into town by 8.30 a.m to make an appointment as phone access can be difficult. Fortunately my practice is very good at sharing work across roles, using e.g. nurse practitioners and in-house physios, but there is still not enough availability. Some patients, myself included, would be happy to have more GP consultations by phone or online. The technology needs to be harnessed to facilitate this. It shouldn't be assumed that older people are universally wedded to in-person appointments.
