STOP THE TOWER BLOCK - SAVE BIRNBECK & PRINCE CONSORT GARDENS

I am originally from Weston and return weekly to spend time with my family. One of the wonderful things about Weston is the Victorian history. Prince Consort Gardens, the old Pier, marine lake and the wonderful views are some of the remaining jewels in the crown for Weston. Please don't allow developers to destroy even more of this wonderful heritage. This proposal will not provide economic regeneration to the area it will simply increase the profit for the developer. Please do not destroy yet another lovely part of Weston's heritage just to provide a one of profit to a greedy and uncaring developer. The new building should a) be build in a sympathetic manner similar to the previous building and b) should be the same height as the building .... come on Weston don't make the same mistake again and add an eyesore to a once wonderful area.

Julia Smith (Bristol, 2021-07-15)

Seen to many buildings ruined over past 40 years .

Susan Malcolm (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#204

Princes Consort gardens is a beautiful place with views over the estuary to wales. It's a really special part of town. I come from Milton Keynes which was designed without tall buildings entirely and weston has the same big skies and feeling of space.

Alison Jayne (Weston-super-Mare , 2021-07-15)

#213

This development will be a blight on the town, at the cost to the magnificent Prince Consort Gardens.
The stunning coastal views and open space should be preserved for all to enjoy.

Kevin Wheeler (Weston-super-Mare , 2021-07-15)

#215

The size and Height is excessive and would not be in keeping with the conservation of the areas victorian gardens and period properties surrounding it.

Mark Mullane (Weston super mare, 2021-07-15)

CNM Estates have shown no interest in redeveloping Birnbeck and have actively prevented NSC and the RNLI from taking over it whilst leaving it to decay in the Bristol Channel.

They furthermore never repaid NSC for the demolition of the Royal Pier Hotel over a decade ago.

They have proven themselves untrustworthy, underhanded and lazy- and now they look to redevelop the site into a vista blocking eyesore they'll struggle to fill 9 months of the year.

Jamie McGrory (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#219

Prince consort gardens is my favourite place in weston super mare

Robert Hegarty (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#220

I'm signing because the hotel development ignores previous planning regulations already in place, restricting the height of the building of the new hotel. The plan also devistates the environment of the Prince Consort Gardens. This building should not be given permission.

David James (Weston super mare , 2021-07-15)

#226

The view from Prince Consort gardens is beautiful and shouldn’t be spoilt. Also because CNM estates are a joke and planning has only gone in because of the CPO.

Kate Ridout (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#228

I am signing because the utter disregard the owner has for a valuable heritage asset and his utter contempt of planning and heritage laws. He needs to be stopped

Simon Brown (Weston-super-Mare , 2021-07-15)

#229

It is a beautiful spot and location and should not be destroyed, it should be revamped!

Jonny Simes (Weston super mare , 2021-07-15)

#230

This building block my view of the sea. I live at 1 South Road

Youssef Worgan-Barmaki (Weston super mare, 2021-07-15)

#232

Because it’s an eyesore and probably not Eco sustainable and will block the view from Prince Consort gardens, that I relish as a resident of WSM. Go back to the drawing board and come back with something in keeping with the environment on every level. Cheap tacky architecture 🤦‍♀️

Alison Price (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#233

The size of the proposed development will obscure the view from Prince Consort Gardens which the current local community and general public currently enjoy. The developer has previously reneged on all their previous development promises and therefore are untrustworthy to complete this work or at the very least stay within the proposed planning.

Paul Owen (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#234

The old pier is an iconic landmark that should be regenerated to bring in tourists as it has done for years. The Prince consort gardens are a picturesque, well maintained, much loved piece of Weston and it would be a massive loss to Weston to replace this beautiful green space with a tower block

Kate Lynch (Weston Super Mare , 2021-07-15)

#251

We love visiting Weston and miss the old pier. Prince consort gardens need to be preserved for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Cecilia Penaluna (Ebbw Vale, 2021-07-15)

#252

Because weston is losing some of its heritage, and we need to save it. The Prince Consort Gardens and around the area to Knights tone, has always been my go to place for peace and solice. It away from westons hustle and bussle. View to the sea is amazing and this will be spoiled by the new plans that have been put in. Please save some of the old weston from the concrete which seem to be happening in weston.

Kathryn Porter (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#253

I'm signing this petition to help save Birnback pier, and keep the integrity of the surrounding area. It does not need an 8 storey hotel!

Jan Robinson (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-15)

#257

It would spoil a beautiful view and would be totally out of place as a building. Look around the area. Not suitable and too high.

Trish Cogle (Weston-s-mare, 2021-07-15)

#258

We do not need a building on that site to spoil the magnificent view.

Peter Morgan (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#260

The idea is grotesque and would destroy one of the most attractive aspects of our town.

Philippa Henley (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#263

People don’t want to live in high rise flats, it causes too many problems and is an eyesore.

Lin Mayhew (Weston super Mare, 2021-07-16)

#264

As a resident I am not against development BuT do NOT take our views away… Consort Gardens is a beautiful tranquil area enjoyed by many & a high rise building will ruin the area

Eloise Nezar (Weston Super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#265

CNM Estates have failed in their period of ownership to show any care or consideration towards these buildings or the good folk of Weston. The plans they submit are always over sized, block views of other residents living behind. They owe North Somerset Council and the tax payers £160,000 and have refused to pay it back. A Compulsary Purchase Order is in process.

John Christopher (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#270

This pier is of historical interest and therefore should be restored also giving the RNLI it's best position for saving lives when will the compulsory purchase order be executed?

Alan Lynn (Chippenham, 2021-07-16)

#272

I am signing as I object to this as it is hardly sympathetic to the conservation area let alone over development and lack of parking in the area as it is.

Tim Noble (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#273

I agree with everything said. We haven't the infrastructure in this town. The population is exploding not just here but all over Britain.

Diane Glen (weston super mare, 2021-07-16)

#274

I'm disgusted at the way this company has treated the old pier and left the area in such a state, its had years to sort this mess out and failed miserably

Graham Williams (Weston super mare, 2021-07-16)

#276

A block of flats there will not be in keeping with the area.

Sam Wade (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#278

I’m signing this because of the need to keep what is left of Westons beautiful areas … just that… beautiful for all our local people and for visitors. It has so much history, it’s a peaceful sanctuary for a lot of residents and to block the view would be awful. We don’t need a new hotel … we need money ploughed into the vacant and falling down buildings we already have!

Sam Adams (Weston super mare , 2021-07-16)

#279

I feel the development is unsightly and not in keeping with area and would destroy the area's superb views .

Antony Aloszko (Eastleigh. Hants, 2021-07-16)

#280

I want to preserve the magnificent view from the Prince Consort Gardens. The proposed development takes no account of the surrounding area and scope for development

Robert Sergeant (Liverpool, 2021-07-16)

#283

It's a beautiful landmark. Also, living close to the gardens for most of my children's childhoods, it holds very special memories. The views are stunning, and should remain so for future generations.

Jackie Carter (WESTON-SUPER-MARE, 2021-07-16)

#291

Weston needs good development but not to the detriment of one of the few existing spaces that enhance Weston. CNM Estates and their directors have already proved themselves to act selfishly looking for profit with no regard or respect for Weston, it's population and visitors.

JANE BARRON (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#292

Don't want any building done that would impare the fantastic view from Prince Consort Gardens !

Andrew Bidwell (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#293

This will not an asset to Weston, the developer should sort out the Old Pier instead of letting it fall into the sea.

Andrew Whittle (WESTON-SUPER-MARE, 2021-07-16)

#296

I am signing because these beautiful gardens need to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Rosemary Davies (Weston super Mare, 2021-07-16)

#297

I lived in Weston for 11 years, and destroying this view would be sacrilege, all in the name of greed

Judith Massa (Melton Mowbray, 2021-07-16)

#301

This building will ruin the views from Prince consort gardens and is also out of keeping with the surrounding area.

Robert Blainey (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#308

I live in the town and object to this size building being built, which will spoil the views currently enjoyed.

Sally Cass (Weston super Mare, 2021-07-16)

#310

The block is out of character for the area, design is unsightly and it will block or restrict view. The delvelopment is being proposed soley for profit and will not benefit the area or local people

Anthony Hetherington (Weston Super Mare, 2021-07-16)

#311

I understand these same developers own Birnbeck pier. Then they have proved they care nothing for Weston & are simply out to profit at any cost to the town. They should not be allowed any development opportunities but should be forced to stop destroying our heritage

Lew Lightfoot (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-07-16)

#314

The limitation of height and extent of any new development is crucial in preserving the views and ambience from and of Prince Consort Gardens. Once lost they can never be regained and would signal a serious loss to Weston.

Mike Leonard (Weston--super-mare, 2021-07-16)

#322

It really is about time that this approach to development in Weston-super-Mare was put to bed once and for all. A pattern that has been seen all too often over the years. Let a place go derelict so that the perceived ineptitude and inaction of the Council of the day will mean that it leaves itself with no option than to grant such a monstrosity to 'improve' the area. It's about greed and most of us are wise to it. If Weston really wants to become a thriving town again it needs attractions to get people here. This, again, is the wrong type of investment that will serve only those involved in its development. Shameful behaviour.

Angie Hayes (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-17)

#323

They are a heritage of our town
Both beautiful in their own right.
It would be a tragedy to see them disappear.

Anthony Wilsher-Day (Weston Super Mare , 2021-07-17)

#328

A blot on the landscape totally out of character

Stephen Takle (Bristol, 2021-07-17)

#329

It’s an eye sore being built by a developer that just wants to cash in.

Mark Walker (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-17)

#332

I think that CNM estates should spend the money on refurbishing The iconic Birnbeck Pier rather than building eye sore flats that will spoil the landscape

SALLY FITZGERALD (Weston Super Mare , NORTH SOMERSET, 2021-07-17)

#335

I’m signing this petition because the view from the Prince Consort Gardens is spectacular, the sunset over the sea is a delight. We do not want our view obscured by some ugly modern building totally out of place for that area of Weston

Christine Doyle (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-07-17)

#337

The company don’t care about the environment or heritage or the people of Weston - as shown by their disgraceful legal wrangling over Birnbeck pier whilst letting it rot despite public appeals. The development would also look starkly out of place with the surrounding area and spoil a beautiful garden setting. Additionally the proposed parking is less than the number needed, putting pressure on an already overcrowded network of streets and increasing the risks to pedestrians, cyclists etc.

Jennifer Back (Weston-super-mare, 2021-07-17)

#339

This would be a terrible mistake to ruin such a beautiful view for so many people.

Carole Smith (WESTON-SUPER-MARE, 2021-07-18)

#343

Main issue is height . Twice that of the original, if correct, cannot be justified

Nick Deakin (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-18)

#350

My friend lives in a luxury apartment that the builder has now gone bust and they are getting no support with the very high cost they have had to take out loans to pay it shocking

Jeanette Montgomery (Glasgow, 2021-07-18)

#352

This is way too high and will spoil the ambience of the area

Tania Mckenna (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-19)

#355

object to this proposed building being located in the area and obstructing the outstanding views. CNM Estates believe that they can run roughshod over the area and do exactly as they like with total disregard to the local residents. One only has to look at the Old Pier for an example of the companies long term plans. Such a building will destroy an area of outstanding beauty.

Arthur Redman (weston super mare, 2021-07-19)

#356

I own a flat adjacent to Prince Consort Gardens and the tower block will obliterate my present views
Furthermore I spend many days enjoying the views from Prince Consort Gardens and wish to continue to do so. This is an environmentally protected space and should not be adversely compromised by this building proposal.

Joshua Brown (Weston super Mare , 2021-07-19)

#358

The hypocrisy of the powers that decide what can and cannot be built in the area is astounding and contradictory, if it can make a profit then it can be built but if a home owner wants a fence around it's perimeter for security it will be turned down

Paul Newbury (Weston super Mare, 2021-07-19)

#360

It’s a historical structure and needs preserving

Janet McFarlane (Retford, 2021-07-19)

#361

Many people have become used to the un hindered view from the Gardens.

The Company has had plenty of time to develop the site.

The Company's track record, leaves a lot to be desired, especially when it comes to the Birnbeck Pier.

Should this building be allowed, it will remove the serenity of the Gardens

Andrew Jones (Solihull, 2021-07-19)

#366

This historic pier should be preserved for future generations.

Verna Beighton (Bristol, 2021-07-19)

#371

I have lived in Weston all my life and I love the gardens with the view.

Kate Thomas (Weston super mare , 2021-07-20)

#378

The building line will be unattractive and out of keeping with the surrounding buildings and facilities

Margaret Fraser (Weston super Mare , 2021-07-20)

#381

I’m signing this petition because any business like CNM Estates that fails to preserve Birnbeck Pier shouldn’t be allowed to build anything in Weston-super-Mare. They are a disgrace and any acceptance by NSC for this development I fear would not end well. The people of Weston will vote with their feet.

Helen Wadey (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-20)

#384

I am alarmed how the town is slowly losing its heritage and historical identity and at the lack of care and investment shown towards the sympathetic restoration of Birnbeck Pier

Paul Swan (Weston=Super-Mare, 2021-07-21)

#386

I believe it to be totally out of keeping with the local environment, landscape and ecology of Weston. I believe it would have a negative impact on the area and that this is purely a money making venture.

Wendy Williams (Bromsgrove , 2021-07-21)

#387

I live by the consort gardens and the developement is to tall and totally out of character of this beautiful area

Gary Williams (Weston super mare, 2021-07-21)

#391

I strongly believe that this is the wrong thing for the local area.

Wendy Parkins (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-21)

#395

This is not a sympathetic development for the area, need to replace what was there only

Helen Gadd (Weston-Super-Mare, 2021-07-22)

#397

The building height is totally out of context with the local environment especially in relation to the local conservation area.

Byron Smith (Weston super Mare, 2021-07-22)

#400

I believe this building will destroy the views from Prince Consort Gardens and is an unnecessary blot on the landscape.

Caroline Reynolds (Weston-super-Mare, 2021-07-22)
