The idea of intensive poultry farming disgusts me

Janet Baxter (Dundee , 2020-09-16)

#206

I’m opposed to plans.

Elizabeth Gilchrist (Perth, 2020-09-18)

#208

I am opposed to any such development of this type anywhere within the British Isles.
These developments are an assault on our environment.

Margaret Knight (Ammanford, 2020-09-18)

#209

I disagree with this kind of chicken farming and it affects my parents local community.

Lisa Pitchers (Glasgow , 2020-09-19)

#210

The links to livestock processing plants and COVID in the current climate would indicate that this is an unnecessary risk

Tom Hilliard (Norwich, 2020-09-19)

#211

I totally oppose this planning application, as I disagree with any intensive farming methods including Poultry.

Chris McManus (Stirling, 2020-09-19)

I live near Murthly and do not want to see an industrial chicken farm in a beautiful rural location near me.

I am signing because I live on the River Tay. As a botanist I see the degrading effects of agriculture and farming every day. Increased Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed currently grow all along the Tay aside all banks with excess pollutants. Our local landscape is degrading and banks are eroding due to industry and for what? So few people make money from these industries whilst locals, wildlife and environment suffers? These invasive plants costs taxpayers millions to remove, but were literally put there by farming industries who pay no price for their pollution. It is taxpayers who pay for clean up through taxes and locals who pay with their health. And dirty industries live on...

What is the job of sepa if they are not regulating? Is the role of Sepa not to protect our environment? This case is a simple land degradation for money, whilst charging taxpayers to clean up the pollution afterwards. I would argue that Sepa are not fit for purpose if they are agreeing to sign off on industries like this, fraudulently representing themselves as a regulator who do no regulating.

I support the creation of a River Tay Foundation to safeguard our river from polluting industry and landowners, collecting data like on the Wye and Usk.

As a regular visitor to Murthly, I am appalled that the beautiful natural countryside around the village should be spoilt by construction of this kind with seemingly no regard to the local community.

Brian Moncur (Windsor, 2020-09-21)

Concerns as to the proximity to the primary school

Margaret Graham (Methven, Perth, 2020-09-21)

#218

I have serious concerns about the effect on the primary school and wider community; the environment and the welfare of the poultry.

Monica Stewart (Caputh, 2020-09-22)

#219

I am apposed to this spoiling our village and beautiful countryside

Rosalind Caffrey (Perthshire, 2020-09-22)

#228

This is an unacceptable situation.

Alison Smith (Stonehaven , 2020-09-26)

#229

It is a risk to the health of children in the near by school and the community .

Gwyneth Donnelly (Perth, 2020-09-26)

#230

Concerned for welfare of family members who live beside this proposed site

Pamela Tuffy (Sligo, 2020-09-27)

#232

I know the area and this should not be allowed so close to residential areas and the local school.

Hazel Barclay (Betws y Coed, 2020-09-27)

#233

Mass chicken farming is cruel, the conditions these animal live in is unacceptable, also this is a rural residential area, and the air pollution caused by this plant will affect the whole area. I used to work 2 miles from such a unit and when the wind blew the smell was unbearable

colin smaill (edinburgh, 2020-09-27)

#234

It’s not a suitable location far too close to a primary school

angela bell (Perth, 2020-09-28)

#238

This toxic an polluting farm must not be permitted to be built.

Nicholas Conlin (Butterstone, 2020-09-30)

#241

Poultry farms like these are cruel, unethical, disgusting and the meat & eggs cannot be healthy when from the terrible conditions.

Constance Wright (Alyth, 2020-09-30)

#242

I agree with all that has been written in support of this petition and feel strongly that this and other farms should not be allowed

james robertson (CUPAR, 2020-10-01)

#246

I do not think this location is suitable as it is too near houses and the school and the heavy traffic would be to much for the roads

Nicolette Lumsden (Perth, 2020-10-02)

#249

I believe this is exactly the sort of farming practice which we should be moving away from.

Carol Franklin (Perth, 2020-10-03)

#250

Intensive animal breeding, in general, is known to increase the risk of viruses emerging that can infect humans.
The latest stark reminder of this is, of course, Covid-19. Quite apart from this threat, the building of such a facility in such a beautiful area of rural Peryshire is outrageous and will negatively impact the appeal of the area both for its residents and tourists.

John Franklin (Perth, 2020-10-03)

#256

a poultry farm near murthly would be a bad thing for the residents as well as the chickens that would inhabit it.

Hamish Stewart (Glasgow , 2020-10-06)

#257

The countryside belongs to all of us and I object to it being exploited for the financial gain of a few particular agents at the expense of the health of our nation.

Morag Malcolm (Forfar, 2020-10-08)

#258

I support the people of Murthly In objecting to this Planning application. I am also very concerned about the recently submitted scoping report to Angus Council Planning Department for two x 32,000 free range hen barns at DD8 2SR. I agree with the contents of the Murthly report and share the concerns of the local residents.

Morag Forbes (Forfar, 2020-10-08)

Local farmer proposing large development, very similar to your one

Ian Grant (Forfar, 2020-10-08)

I am horrified to hear of this proposal. Brought up near Coupar Angus, the presence of the chicken factory changed what was a pretty and prospering town in the 60’s to a down at heel town with empty premises, few shops and an air of desolation and poverty, not to mention the stink that permeates the area. It is a constant reminder of what is happening within its premises. Why would anyone want to visit such a place or invest in property nearby. My biggest concern is as has always been the animal cruelty of such environments, the impact on human health and on the environment. Birds raised in the intensive units, however enriched are subject to great suffering and stress. The risk of disease is high and of pollution leeching into the water supply. Now is not the time to be adding another such factory of misery to what is a beautiful unspoiled part of Perthshire. It’s as if we never learn. If we mistreat animals and nature eventually it turns round and bites us back. This pandemic and most epidemics of recent decades have arisen from treating animals as commodities not living, breathing sentient beings who have a right to a life where they can follow natural behaviours and be free from pain and distress. The company may argue the welfare standards are well within present guidelines but that doesn’t say a great deal. They are a small step up from the worst practices we became accustomed to in the 69s and 70’s. Now is the time for real innovation and inspired design for smaller units with any new installation of this kind. One which incorporates animal welfare and environmental concerns at its heart. I feel deeply saddened that Perth and Kinross are even considering such a plan. On the argument that it will bring work to the community, I have to agree with the objectors that it will only bring low paid employment and opportunities to workers brought in from outside the community. Murthly will be altered beyond recognition, the value of propert diminished... all fit short term gain for a few. It is time for councils to be thinking further ahead. I wholeheartedly support the Murthly action group and hope that this development will not be granted permission.

Jill Proctor (Blairgowrie , 2020-10-09)

I'm signing because a chicken farm so close to a village is a great health threat for the community, especially for the primary school in Murthly.

Paul van den Ende (Murthly, 2020-10-09)

#262

I'm signing because a chicken farm so close to the village is a great health threat, especially for the primary school.

Liesbet Rogier (Murthly, 2020-10-09)

#264

I'm signing because:
1: I am against factory farming practices.
2: We are in the midst of a pandemic that started because of close proximity of people to animals in a market. Previous epidemics have started in poultry rearing sites. Now is not the time to be building more such facilities, no matter how bio-secure they are said to be. Accidents will happen, and not enough is yet known about how virus transmission occurs from animals to humans.
3: This particular poultry farm is to be sited in a place that I currently enjoy as a recreational cycle route. Construction, maintenence and servicing of such a place will ruin the access road and the surrounding area for this purpose.
4: It will destroy a area of natural habitat

Sue Band (Gauls of Murthly, 2020-10-09)

The production of cheap, intensively produced food, full of chemicals and pathogens, does not align with the "green" future that is required by all countries to try to reverse some of the terrible damage already caused to the planet, it's people and wildlife.

Mrs S Robertson (Isle of Whithorn, 2020-10-21)

#279

I am opposed to factory farming and ruining our environment

Patricia Grandy (Conwy , 2020-10-21)

#282

I agree entirely with the comments made in the petition letter.

Chris Kinsey (Wakefield, 2020-10-22)

#289

I believe that the increasing number of chicken farms in Scotland is despoiling the rural landscale and leading to environmental pollution. High quality agricultural land should not be turned over to industrial farming.

Michael Rushforth (Forfar, 2020-10-26)

#290

The smell from the factory in Coupar Angus is horrendous . I don’t think we should have any more stinking unhealthy and cruel chicken farms in our locality.

Julie McCrossan (Perth, 2020-10-28)

#291

We should be moving away from the industrial farming of animals, not towards it.

Rachel Ashton (Huntly , 2020-10-28)

#293

I have recently had my awareness raised of what these developments really mean for the lives of animals and the lives of those living near such factory farms because an even bigger unit of 64,000 birds is proposed on my doorstep in Angus, Scotland

Anni Whitehead (Forfar, 2020-10-29)

#296

Location , design and siting of poultry units are not adequately considered in the planning process.

Susan Burness (Arbroath, 2020-10-29)

#298

Against factory farming methods of Aviagen

John Barbour (Cupar, 2020-10-29)

#300

Surely this is a really outdated method of production and should we not be encouraging small local producers with more ethical methods to step in.

Jilly Henderson (Arbroath, 2020-10-29)

#301

It’s barbaric

James McNeill (Dundee, 2020-10-29)

#303

Poultry farming must be done with greater respect for the chicken's well being

Tobias Wood (Dundee, 2020-10-29)

#307

I love poultry and I have my own pet hens. I have seen how commercial poultry is kept and its a disgrace.

Kirsty Goodwill (Arbroath , 2020-10-29)

#309

Absolutely goes against everything that Angus should be about. Cruelty to animals. Rubbish food for humans. Destroying the countryside.

Sandra Strathie (Dundee, 2020-10-29)

#310

It’s unethical

Elizabeth Mcneill (Aberdeenshire, 2020-10-29)

#321

This is a bad idea. For many reasons.....poor little creatures. Also, to destroy the happiness/wellbeing of families who live nearby is criminal.

Lorna Rennie (Aberdeen, 2020-10-29)

#322

Its cruel

Pauline Sharp (Carnoustie, 2020-10-29)

#323

It is unacceptable to treat any animal this way

Helen Henderson (Letham, 2020-10-29)

#326

Im signing this petition is solidarity with Murthly group in opposition to development of industrial hen shed in our country side. These shed are moraly objectionable and poise a health risk to our communities

Jake Stewart (Forfar, 2020-10-30)

#331

I am getting one built near my house

David Liddell (Forfar, 2020-11-06)

#337

I’m signing because high intensity poultry farming represents a virtual giant petridish to allow pathogenic microorganisms to mutate and infect human populations.

James Boyle (Glasgow , 2020-11-24)

#340

It's time to move away from farming members of other species for use and consumption. As well as being barbaric and brutal for the defenceless victims, all the latest science confirms that it's environmentally unsustainable, harmful for human health, and is a breeding ground for disease. The next pandemic is widely predicted to be an avian variety that may make COVID-19 seem mild by comparison. For these and many other reasons, it's time to take a stand.

Linda Clark (BLAIRGOWRIE, 2020-11-24)

#341

It's long past time that we gave up animal exploitation.

Katherine Perlo (Forfar, 2020-11-24)

#353

such methods of farming are cruel, wasteful of resources and very unhealthy both for animals and humans.

tina fox (neston , 2020-11-25)

#354

I care

Dianne Hendry (Campbletown, 2020-11-25)

#355

Stop this madness! Times are changing, go vegan!

Corina Burkhardt (4500, 2020-11-25)

#357

we should know by now that this type of treatment of living creatures is shameful cruelty, harmful to the environment and the health of the poultry thus reared and the humans who buy and eat the end products.

Rosemary Franks (New Deer, Turriff AB536XT, 2020-11-25)

#363

We need to end the violence which creates a hellhole for animals and stress levels which promote zoonotic diseases

Gerard McDade (Glasgow, 2020-11-26)

#365

It’s barbaric to exploit sentient being and Thor short existence is torturous and this has to stop. Diseases spread this way throughout birds and also many pandemics spread through these places.

Helen Gillespie (Glasgow, 2020-11-27)

#368

I want humans to stop exploiting the lives of other animals as though they belong to us.

Amanda Sykes (Glasgow, 2020-11-29)

#373

Factory farming are Cruel to Animals and are posing health risks to the public.
They are also the number one leading cause to the Global warming.they are destroying the 🌍

Laetitia Blanc (Pinner, 2021-06-08)

#374

Those places are full of diseases.
Animals are sick therefore their meat is very poor quality fill with Antibiotics, hormones and preservatives.

David Jones (Pinner, 2021-06-08)

#379

Large scale factory farming has no place in Scottish or even WORLD farming nowadays, and that should be obvious to every sane human being in the wake of Covid 19. Cramming animals into small spaces with no regard for their natural behaviour/requirements is inhumane and plainly greedy. If one must eat meat, let it be ethically treated in life at least.

Susan Eckholdt (Norwich, 2021-06-08)

#380

No-one is listening to all the evidence about the pain and suffering these poor creatures endure. No-one is listening to all the evidence about the environmental damage all these hell-holes are creating.
No-one is listening, so we're now shouting!

Gloria Bassoli (Kingston upon Thames, 2021-06-08)

#386

We must keep fighting against the horrors of factory farms! Cruel and unhealthy.

Patricia Mitchell (Camden, 2021-06-08)

#399

These intensive poultry units produce damaging waste products as well as being cruel to chickens
