Ripon Barracks: Better Roads Before New Homes

Comments

#603

All recent building planning permissions which have been granted have badly let down the residents of Ripon by refusing to recognise the needs for relief roads to divert increased traffic flow away from bottlenecks at schools and other very narrow lanes which are dangerous rat runs, especially when used by HGV and delivery vehicles. No consideration is being made on overload of existing public services and builders are refusing to honour agreed obligations to sensitively convert listed buildings.

Paul Thornton (Ripon, 2020-09-28)

#604

I’m signing because I moved here from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada when I was nearly two and the family home was off Lark Lane on Lark Hill Close
Also loved the Camp Close fireworks
My favourite time of year because it’s my Birthday and it leads nicely up to Christmas

Claire McCann (nee) Webster (Ripon, 2020-09-29)

#608

I believe the roads in Ripon leading to and from the development are already inadequate.

Jane Pritchard (Ripon, 2020-09-29)

#609

Clotherholme Road is very congested. More homes without better infrastructure is a threat to public safety.

Robert Geddes (Ripon, 2020-09-29)

#612

The infrastructure need sorting first.

Susan Pybus (Ripon, 2020-09-29)

#615

Too much traffic, too many people and not enough facilities

Carol Wood (Ripon, 2020-09-30)

#618

I am signing because without proper infrastructure i.e. roads, Ripon will grind to a halt. We already have traffic problems during peak times for schools especially on Clothetholme Road and Firby Lane and Westgate - often resulting in gridlock!!

JOSÉ ANDREWS (Ripon, 2020-09-30)

#619

I care about my city

Sue Kent (Ripon , 2020-09-30)

#621

This entire project has not been thought through and will have a very negative impact on local residents.

Rachel Smith (Ripon, 2020-09-30)

#622

I live in the area and the roads are terrible. I

Emma Sweete (Ripon, 2020-09-30)

#625

I feel the roads are already inadequate in Ripon and this huge development will make the situation far worse, particularly at peak times.

Jo Parker (Ripon, 2020-10-01)

#627

I am signing because the Clotherholme proposals will increase the population of the city by 25% with no commensurate improvement to infrastructure. Clotherholme is on the West of the city, the least accessible quarter. All traffic wishing to access central Ripon or the main road network will have to pass through two existing bottle necks which cannot be widened.
Also there is no dedicated cycleway into the centre of Ripon, the cycleway proposed is only to the West of Chatham Road (the rural bit!)

Christopher Bennett (Ripon, 2020-10-01)

#628

I am signing because the road structure of Ripon will not be able to sustain the number of new houses that are to be built. On the west side of Ripon there already are traffic problems. The main exit will be past the 2 secondary schools. All the roads leading from the development will lead to only 2 exit points which are already liable to jamming power. A relief road is needed.

Christina Thomson Jones (Ripon, 2020-10-01)

#629

We do not need this size of housing because we do not have he capacity on our roads. car parking, schools, and surgerys to cope

Stewart Readman (Ripon, 2020-10-02)

#631

In my view a development of this size should not be being considered at this location, it is quite simply in the wrong place. If this land was not owned by the MOD I am sure it would never get past planning. It is being proposed simply to solve a problem for the MOD and not for the best interests of Ripon and it’s existing residents.

Trevor Robinson (Ripon, 2020-10-02)

#637

I don't think this project has been thought through properly, it seems to me that not enough thought has been given to the extra traffic this development will impose on a road system which is already congested at peak times.

Frank Gould (Ripon, 2020-10-03)

#640

I don’t want increased traffic without the road system being improved first.

Rachel Ware (Ripon, 2020-10-04)

#641

There needs to be better roads and infrastructure to support this housing proposal

Laura Georgina Walls (Ripon, 2020-10-04)

#642

The proposed development needs a comprehensive traffic assessment to cover congestion in Ripon and the need for a new access road to the Barracks site .

Mark Foster (Ripon , 2020-10-04)

#650

For better town

Georgia Abbott (Ripon, 2020-10-06)

#651

Too much development in Ripon particularly on the west side of the town. The developments already approved will cause serious traffic problems due to inadequate roads and the need for traffic to cross the town to get anywhere. why has planning not promoted development sites to the east of the town nearer to the bypass and links to the A1?

Paul Morris (Ripon, 2020-10-06)

#653

I live on Clotherholme Road and all he traffic is a nightmare.

Heather Cunane (Ripon, 2020-10-06)

#654

I am very concerned about pollution, congestion and danger on Low Skelgate/Borrage bridge. Also is Borrage bridge fit for extra traffic. Ripon services are stretched. More housing is not the answer.

Duncan Lees (Ripon, 2020-10-06)

#655

Clotherholme Road and Kirkby Road cannot take any more traffic. Ripon will be gridlocked for most of the day if an alternative route to the barracks site is not provided. Also pollution from standing traffic will be at an unacceptable level

Hazel Barker (Ripon, 2020-10-06)

#660

I am signing because I live next to Barracks.

We need more connection to access across otherwise It will increase more problems in our area

Thanks

Lalit Mittal (Ripon, 2020-10-08)

#661

Ripon will be gridlocked without road improvement

John Martin (RIPON, 2020-10-08)

#662

The infrastructure of our medieval city cannot accommodate the unacceptable increase in pressure generated by such an enormously excessive development.
Traffic alone results in our overcrowded streets becoming gridlocked on a regular basis now at peak times, without the addition of an additional 1300 vehicles adding to the mayhem.
Planning Officers must come and observe for themselves the dire conditions that we endure daily, even with the reduced traffic due to those working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nigel Rawlinson (Ripon , 2020-10-08)

#666

Road needs to go over to Masham Road to take traffic from the town. Blossomgate area very narrow and busy already.

Jake Bailey (Ripon, 2020-10-09)

#667

I consider the roads and pavements through Ripon are in desperate need of a major upgrade to cope with current traffic, before agreeing to the proposed new development. Low Skellgate is full of traffic fumes; cars skip the lights & passing pedestrians are forced into the road, which is dangerous from a traffic point of view and now even more so with Covid. Local residents have little opportunity to maintain their properties, as using ladders or scaffolding would put the user’s life at risk, as well as that of pedestrians.
I would suggest a one way traffic system should be considered, allowing for a wider pavement, in order for everyone to benefit our beautiful historic city, as safely as possible.

Karyn Lees (Ripon, 2020-10-09)

#673

I fully support the objectives of this petition.

Katharine Keohane (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#674

An increase of 1300 homes each with at least one car possibly two would mean Clotherholme road around the two schools will be a worse nightmare than it currently is. An accident waiting to happen. We don’t have the road infrastructure to cope with the additional traffic

Michael Smith (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#675

I live next to the barracks, school closing and opening times are already dangerously busy. The roads aren't adequate for the cars we already have on the road.

Firby Lane is always busy during peak times which then back up clotherholme.

The school busses make it impossible to pass when on route.

Holly Lansdowne (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#676

It’s my firm belief that not only would our city infrastructure not be able to cope with the increased population, (as I’m sure would become blatantly obvious from the most basic of surveys) but the ‘planning’ committee Should take note of how many empty building already litter the city, buildings of historical interest and importance that are neglected to the point of falling down. Why don’t we prioritise renovating these before new builds? As we are a ‘historical’ city why not embrace what we already have first?
Primary example of current initiatives for example- the development site on Whitcliffe Lane. Whimsically flicking from “We promise we will renovating existing” to “knock it down only option” Attitude in under 12 months and Just hope nobody notices?
We the people are exhausted of being rear ended and flat out lied to by planners destroying OUR city’s character.
Go F*ck up somebody else’s proud heritage!

L Rogers (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#684

Existing traffic problems in Ripon need to be addressed, major hold ups most days heading into and through Ripon simply caused by traffic lights. Unimaginable with 1300 more houses which could result in double + more cars on the roads.

Sadie Wood (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#685

We need to improve the infrastructure before building more houses

Patricia Charlton (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#686

I live just off College Road in Ripon and the traffic congestion and resulting air pollution if this goes ahead without a new link road will be dreadful.

Graham Turner (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#687

The roads are congested now before adding construction traffic and then residents traffic also supply traffic . Ripon bypass need upgrades to a complete circle and access to barracks side of Ripon

Kevin Johnson (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#688

If more housing is built before infrastructure is improved there will be total chaos in Ripon.

Valerie Sheldon (Ripon, 2020-10-11)

#692

I believe infrastructure should be a fundamental part of a development of this scale. The impact on all RIpon residents will only grow with time.

ANGELA BROWN (RIPON, 2020-10-11)

#693

I am genuinely worried about the pressure that this would put in the cities roads. Also, the current number of school places are not enough to cope with so many new families moving here.

R Clapton (RIPON, 2020-10-11)

#697

I am signing as a resident of Clotherholme Rd. Ripon and see constantly the traffic bottlenecks on Coltgates Hill and Firby Lane.
I have no objection to the redevelopment of the barracks site, but to go ahead without a new relief road would be complete lunacy!!

CHRIS METCALFE (RIPON, 2020-10-11)

#699

The road system will not be able to cope with increase in traffic.

Sam Smith (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#700

We need adequate infrastructure to support these new homes.

Rosie McGilvray (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#701

The road infrastructure is completely inadequate. The minor amendments to proposed roads will not make any difference.

Mark Handy (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#702

We desperately need improvements to roads and other infrastructure before any development starts. Doublegates area is increasingly suffering because of traffic congestion and parking on Clotherholme Road

Kathleen Littler (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#705

Roads definitely need to come before 1300 houses on the wrong side of Ripon. All cars (probably in excess of 2000 of them ) will need to use existing roads and junctions which are already at capacity.

Irene Hall (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#706

Ripon Civic Society has sent an excellent, detailed and comprehensive response to this Planning Application, outlining its many perceived shortcomings. The 17 page document can be viewed at www.riponcivicsociety.org.uk - click on the "About Us" tab and select "Planning Correspondence"

David Hall (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#707

Ripon city road system was not built for the number of motor vehicles trying to use it now never mind the planned influx of new homes with how many cars per household? Gridlocks occur frequently even in these pandemic times with fewer vehicles than usual using the roads. Frustration is oft occurring and angry scenes are not infrequent.
Please consider this application very carefully thinking not just of local preferences but also of the large number of tourists who come to visit this beautiful city with its Cathedral, attractive a Market Place with thriving markets, its ancient traditions and loved by its citizens.

A Mason (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#708

I believe you should build the infrastructure first and then the houses.

Fred Crossman (Ripon, 2020-10-12)

#711

Ripon is a close knit community of people who care about each other, what happens in this development will affect everyone, and road issues have been a regular concern

Juliet Balme (Ripon, 2020-10-13)

#712

This development is planned without the necessary infrastructure or consideration of the effects on traffic flow or education.

Lesley Wood (Ripon, 2020-10-13)

#713

Polution and congestion already too high needs sorting now rather than when it's at crisis
Point.

John Wilson (Ripon, 2020-10-13)

#715

There needs to be significant infrastructure investment into Ripon before a development of this scale is approved. An increase in traffic of this magnitude would destroy Ripon's accessibility.

Richard Palmer-Jones (Ripon, 2020-10-13)

#717

I am signing because, as Ripon is my nearest town, I use Ripon a lot for shopping, and I pass through at least 10 times per week. Some of the roads are in need of repair and I believe that this work should be done for the benefit of local residents rather than adding the the current craze for building unwanted houses, a craze that is in the process of ruining the town in which I live, Boroughbridge, for ever.

William Paul (Boroughbridge, 2020-10-13)

#721

Before bringing more people living in the Ripon area we must see better infrastructure to support the existing and new residents

Barbara Chalmers (Masham, 2020-10-13)

#724

I’m opposed to this development.

Juliet Searle (Thirsk, 2020-10-13)

#726

I was born in Ripon 47 years ago and i strongly object to this new development.

My child recently got ran over walking home from school. Thankfully, other than cuts and bruises my daughter is fine. I do not want more cars on our roads.

We also live on a main road which is becoming busier and busier. We cannot enjoy are garden as it’s a side garden as the air pollution is strong and the noise from the traffic is loud.

As true Riponians with generations of family from Ripon why is it my partner and I struggled and had to wait to have our children accepted by a dentist.... ? Why do we have to wait weeks for a GP appointment ? I remember when Dr Burton would see you the same day or when Dr Ingram first came to Dr Fletchers surgery and you could get an appointment straight away.... now your lucky if you can get one straight away !

Why can’t my children go to the same primary school I went to, St Wilfred’s ? Because they are full with long waiting lists.

Houses are popping up all over Ripon and all your doing by this is finishing off what was a great little City.

If I’d have wanted to live in Leeds or York etc I’d have moved there... However, by continuing to bring more people here you will force people like me, a true Riponian, into thinking about moving.

Fred Bainbridge (Ripon, 2020-10-13)

#727

Ripon does not have the infrastructure to support it

Kirsten Antoncich (ripon, 2020-10-13)

#729

Ripon is being overtaken by new builds before the area is ready for the immense strain put on services & infrastructure please step back & do the prep work before it’s too late! the roads especially are not fit for cars let alone huge lorries & building equipment thundering through

Lizi Duncan (Ripon, 2020-10-14)

#730

RIPON doesn’t have the infrastructure to cope with the traffic, the people needing schools, doctors etc.

Ann Smith (RIPON , 2020-10-14)

#731

Road congestion and infrastructure not considered

Karen Sharma (Ripon, 2020-10-14)

#736

It’s needed doing for years

Adam Horrocks (Ripon, 2020-10-14)

#738

I’m signing because I just don’t understand how the roads will operate safely. It’s abundantly clear that these roads and pavements are not designed for this volume of traffic and as a parent to 2 young boys on Bishopton Lane I am worried. I see daily near-misses which can only be expected to increase.

Kristian

Kristian Best (Ripon , 2020-10-14)

#740

Ripon roads will not cope with the extreme volume of traffic. Road improvement is vital prior to proposed development

Phil Mitchell (Ripon , 2020-10-14)

#742

The roads are already busy enough and can’t take much more traffic

Kerry Hopwood (Ripon, 2020-10-14)

#745

I live local sutton grange and the kirby road would be over run and couldnt cope with the extra traffic
also damaging the wild life habitat next to the army base

george meer (ripon, 2020-10-14)

#752

I’m signing this petition because the small city of Ripon will be left devastated due to the traffic implications and high probability of injury and possibly loss of life due to increased traffics levels on narrow historic roads that were not designed for the level of new residents vehicles, friend of, utility vehicles, delivery vehicles, business vehicles etc.

I support the development but the roads must be put in place first.

Jonathan Fieldhouse (Ripon , 2020-10-15)

#754

This huge development will have a negative impact on everyone in Ripon who uses the roads, as the infrastructure now in place will not support such a dramatic increase in vehicle movements.

Sandra KELL (Ripon, 2020-10-15)

#755

I am signing because Ripon is already struggling with traffic flow, all these new homes being built in and around Ripon are going to make the situation totally unacceptable.

Peter Boyle (Ripon, 2020-10-15)

#761

There is far too much traffic already on Clotherholme Road because of the two secondary schools.

Clare Childs (Ripon, 2020-10-15)

#766

This makes sense. 1300 homes with no surrounding infrastructure improvements is beyond ridiculous, especially when the main road leading to it is lined with schools. Like you're begging for kids to be runover on a daily basis.
And I'm saying this in the likelihood that I'll be considering purchasing a home in that area.

Leigh Radmore (Bishop Monkton , 2020-10-15)

#769

Because it affects my home and eoads negatively.

Patrick west (Ripon, 2020-10-15)

#771

To much congestion

Teri Knight (Harrogate, 2020-10-15)

#775

It is obvious to me that insufficient consideration has been given to the increase in traffic which the development will create. The "minor roads" referred to in the application are in fact major entries and exits in and out of the city and already produce long queues at rush hours.

Harold Blackburn (Ripon, 2020-10-15)

#778

The current road infrastructure is totally inadequate for the volume of traffic now. School drop off and pick up times cause mayhem. As a resident in the immediate vicinity of the proposed new development I feel very angry that Homes England show total disregard to residents recommendations that there must be a new link road bypassing the centre of Ripon. Proposals to new road layouts does not alter the obvious outcome of traffic driving up already unsuitable narrow roads. Please listen to local residents who, on a daily basis, have to negotiate parked vehicles, blocked driveways and excess pollution.

Carol Roberts (Ripon, 2020-10-16)

#780

HBC planning committee have a responsibility to make a decision that is in the best interests of present & future residents of Ripon. This size of development requires a concomitant investment in infrastructure. If Homes England are not prepared to fund the requisite infrastructural improvements then HBC planning committee should ensure that the development is scaled down accordingly.

Fiona MacGillivray (Ripon, 2020-10-16)

#781

The development is not feasible , new roads need to be built to accommodate the additional traffic that these 1300 houses would create

Graeme Dobson (Ripon , 2020-10-16)

#783

The traffic is already horrendous all around clotherholme road, kirkby road, trinity road and college road, all the way to north street, at key times, so adding to this without changing the road system somehow, would be just ludicrous. I dont live in Ripon but travel into it to work everyday so I experience the traffic daily. Not to mention the abysmal parking for people working in the centre.

Sandra Lawrence (Harrogate, 2020-10-17)

#785

Seeing horrible traffic conditions

Karthik Shanmugam (Ripon, 2020-10-17)

#786

I am exceedingly worried about the impact and safety for our families if this development goes ahead without due consideration to the connections and road network. It is blatantly obvious to those who live here that the existing roads can not cope without turning previously quiet roads into major thoroughfares

Karen Davis (Ripon, 2020-10-17)

#788

It is already heavily congested with traffic up this end of town so if more house are to be built we need more access roads to cope with the increasing traffic

Michelle Nixon (Ripon, 2020-10-17)

#791

The roads won't cope with the traffic they are already in need of repair

Dianne Wilson (Ripon, 2020-10-18)

#792

I'm signing this petition as I am a resident of Ripon and believe the development as proposed would have far more far reaching consequences rather than benefits

Dawn Bowness (Ripon, 2020-10-18)
