As a scout leader I firmly believe that this type if award makes society for our future generations a much better place. The young people on these awards learn the value of working together to achieve life goals and independence along with life long skills. As a mother of 4 I will be devastated if something as valuable as this is taken away, as I'm sure there will be nothing of substance to replace it. I don't want my children to miss out on such a great opportunity and achievement, my oldest son has been talking of doe for a while now and is looking forward to it c even though he still has a year or so to go. Don't take things away from our young people there are very few things left of value for them to purse

The DofE medway is a fantastic group that not only gets children out and about but brings groups of young adults together. Builds confidence and brings young people together. In this day and age of exercise is important then non funding of this is a very bad idea.

My son has just completed his Gold Award and I have seen the positive impact DofE has had on his life. It is such a great way for young people to challenge themselves and to get involved in their community.

(Gravesend, 2016-12-09)

#213

I achieved the gold award through Medway, have been trained as an assessor and now am part of the international award in Dubai. Completing the DofE awards is probably the one thing I am most proud of and it would be a complete shame for others not to be given that opportunity. Medway is a deprived area in many ways and this will only end with less participants.

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

#216

Medway council must not turn their backs on the young people of the Medway towns

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

My daughter has loved doing her bronze award and is very keen to continue into her silver. She started volunteering at a swimming club and has already been offers the chance to be put through for her coaching qualification by the club. It has given her a sense of purpose and helped her understand what it is to be relied upon and given her a sense of commitment. With the Dofe she wouldn't have had this opportunity. Please do not take something else away from the youth of medway, they have very little already and this is something that gives them pride in themselves and direction.

#223

DofE has really helped me

(Gillingham , 2016-12-09)

#224

This is a vital skill for young people today especially as a lot of teens just sit on computers. This encourages them to get out there and participate in a very worthy award.

(Kent, 2016-12-09)

#226

I started DofE at bronze level and worked my way up to gold. As well as it being an amazing experience and fun, I also learnt lots of skills. I now help running DofE at my scout group, and it is such a good thing for the explorers to do, it provides them with many skills useful for the future.

(Medway, 2016-12-09)

#228

My daughter is just starting her bronze award. It has already taught the value of team work just in the planning.

(Rochester, 2016-12-09)

#229

My disabled daughter managed to achieve the Bronze Award and so many young people I know in Medway have gained various levels but have achieved confidence and compassion. Don't pull the plug on another youth service

(chatham, 2016-12-09)

#230

My son is on his Gold award and the role of the Medway D of E panel has been vital for his progress, please don't take away this valuable resource which gives our young people great opportunities and a huge lesson in responsibility and caring.

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

#234

DofE teaches self-reliance and service.

(CHATHAM, 2016-12-09)

#237

My son has just completed his bronze and is excited to be starting his silver. He has additional needs including autism. Taking part in Dof E has helped all kinds of life skills including working as a team. It gives memories that are life changing and will last a life time. Employers look for these skills, team building, seeing an activity though to the end, having a hobby, giving up your time to help others. Please don't take this opportunity away from our young people.

(Rochester, 2016-12-09)

#238

This is such an important activity ( thing) for so many young people giving them the skills needed for the future helping them to develop.

(Sevenoaks kent, 2016-12-09)

#239

DofE should be as accessible as possible.

(Northwich, 2016-12-09)

#240

In a professional capacity, I have had years of dealing with Medway DofE. Their knowledge, dedication, enthusiasm and experience cannot be replaced. There is a wider, positive impact on community and the well being of young people which is worth far more than mere money. Another decision to deprive young people which is thoroughly unwelcome.

(Brecon, 2016-12-09)

#242

Young people are the future -their voices need to be listened too -all too often they are ignored -this petition is a proactive means of demonstrating dissatisfaction in the Local Authorities decision to cut services.

(shrewsbury, 2016-12-09)

#243

The value of the DofE to a young person goes way beyond any financial support given by a council, and it is important that Medway Council looks at alternative ways in which to continue to support the future of its young people.

(Bromsgrove , 2016-12-09)

#244

The way d of e in Medway is currently run is fantastic ... It provides a fantastic opportunity to so many young people ... THAT IS AFFORDABLE! ....And much support to D of E leaders ... There is so much experience within the team ..... It will take years to get it back once it's gone !!! ....... Please don't loose this amazing resource ....

(Rainham, 2016-12-09)

(Gillingham, 2016-12-09)

#264

This scheme does such a lot of good in all its aspects.

(Rochester, 2016-12-08)

#267

The well-documented benefits of DoE for children, especially in an under-privileged area, far outweigh the minimal savings to be made. I urge the council to continue to support our young people to develop as individuals and future employees.

( Medway, 2016-12-09)

#269

This award was something I found very valuable alongside my education and has been something that potential employers have regarded as important. I think its a shame that the council are not supporting such a good award. My grandad Councillor Mike O'brien supported this so much and I am gutted that they are stopping this.

As it says: teaching independence and building the confidence to improve communication and promote leadership skills. These opportunities should be available to ALL.

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

#279

This is happening all over the country and is not being helped by all the austerity cuts that are just an ideological weapon used by the tory party to shrink the state.

(Bradford, 2016-12-09)

#280

My son is doing his D of E and is just about to embark on the Gold level. The Medway D of E have given him to opportunity to undertake many activities and meet and make lots of friends. Removing the opportunity will take away these opportunities and he and many others will just become youths with nothing to do. The D of E is a great way of young people developing many life skills

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

(Gillingham, 2016-12-09)

(Chatham, 2016-12-09)

The benefit to young people from doing the award, the growing in self confidence, the ability to work in a team, helping others and challenging are all important to later life. Encouraging youngsters to do their best not just academically but in life skills is very important to make them employable and part of the wider community.

(Gualdo, 2016-12-10)

#346

Young people should be encouraged to do DofE. Surely Medway Council know the benefits by now.

(Stonehaven, 2016-12-09)

#347

My son is working towards his bronze level. With limited things available for teenagers of lower incomes, this is so important to allow teenagers to work towards something and help others on the way. What a great way to support our communities- removing this would be a travesty!

(Gillingham , 2016-12-10)

As a member of the air cadet organisation the Duke of Edinburgh award is a part of our training curriculum and helps the cadets in many ways and it is also recognised by many companies and employers. I am appalled that Medway council are cutting the funding.
