(Gauteng, 2020-05-22)

#36

Its been a while now without reggae music on radios and television channels but other genres are played almost every hour on the radio. It would be fair if reggae can get same treatment because reggae music is all about building communities through the positive message it brings. But why is reggae not given any attention when most radio channels and TV play music that promotes drugs, sex and alcohol on a daily basis. No wonder why the country is facing high rate of teenage pregnancy and abortions. Its the results of what the media is feeding them everyday. We need more positive music on the radio and TV. Please.

#41

This has been my cry for many years. Seen so much talents come and go with not even a little attention or chance to trend(some even manage to get attention in big international platform/gigs except here at home). It breaks my heart when American and other genre music get all the attentions and allowed to trend over our talented musicians. Yet none of them make as many shows events and efords as the undermined reggae or dance hall (mostly self funded/sponsored for obvious reasons, no investors because of lack of recognition) . Especially our Rasta centered artist been sideline by default over people like Casper nyovest (reggae song) who I love and respect but reggae is unique and it's about time the ground level up and ganja can no more be used as an excuse to sideline reggae and dance hall talents in. My 2cent.

(Germiston, 2020-05-24)

#92

I am signing this petition because I believe in the role played by reggae in liberation of the mind and decolonization of a nation... most of all I myself presented reggae in one of South Africa's community radio station (Alex fm... 89.1) before migrated to United States of America. Depriving people of reggae music is equivalent to betrayal of inevitable black people's liberation struggle. Truth may hurt but it sets people free...

(Hampton, 2020-05-24)

#93

Because the indigenous sounds need recognition above all genres of music that don't make any sense but yet get so much attention from not arts and culture but the whole governing body of South Africa it is only fair to uplift South African reggae to level of first class music so a way producers and artist can look forward to making some money same as other genres like I said we need to stay focus on the message we send to our youths that practice all content sang on a song by their favourite artist or producer etc. So that can set an example to the youths of the future . So I hope for the best for our own Mzansi reggae artist . Jah live for ever more children keep the faith oh children of God
Thank you for your time

Reggae should get the same recognition and exposer as any other genre of music and art. Same needs to happen to the protection and development of reggae and reggae artists. Transformation has not yet been applied to the art called reggae. Especially given the role reggae artists has played in instilling hope and advocating for the liberation of third world peoples. South Africa is no different. One cn consult history, written and oral accounts of how a single song cultivated hope amongst the most downpressed of the masses. Zimbabwe South Africa hosted 2 of reggae's BIGGEST legends. Bob Marley and the wailers in Zimbabwe and Culture in S.A. S.A ha eversince delivered mny export talents such as the late Hon Lucky Dube and many unsung reggae legends who traversed the stages and festivals during the good old 90's and early 2000's. many indeed. The fame of these artists and bands are appreciated more in the underground reggae seen and community platforms, but surprisingly mostly in Europe with the likes of Azania band, Crossby Legend, Dilinger, Daddy Spencer to name a few. The Reggae fraternity of the cape has not so long ago paid farewell to a young explosive talent Spydah who was slowly becoming a force on the reggae and dancehall circuits. Its this that urges this action to petition to the power that be. our government and law makers to heed to this plight for the recognition value of our art.
One love One aim One destiny.
