Restore School Board Democracy: A Call for the Resignation of Unelected Chair Terry Sage

We the undersigned parents of Ngunguru School seek the resignation of the current Ngunguru School Board of Trustees Chairperson, Terry Sage. We petition that he stand down immediately following the by-election currently estimated to occur in August of 2021. 

While we the parents appreciate Mr. Sage’s many years of service, we are deeply unsettled and concerned by the recent resignation of half of the school’s board and all but one of the elected parent representatives. When he stood for election in 2019, Mr. Sage was not selected by the parent voting electorate. Indeed, he lost that election. 

That Mr. Sage now remains to chair the board, while four of the five elected parent representatives have resigned, indicates an immediate need for an adherence to democratic principles and for Mr. Sage to heed the wishes of the community he purports to serve. The parent electorate does not have faith in Mr. Sage’s leadership. He must step down so that the school’s direction and governance may be driven, not by a process of co-option and appointment, but rather by the wishes of the families of Ngunguru School.

We ask, therefore, that Mr. Sage tender his resignation to the Board, effective upon the installation of the duly elected members after the August by-election.
