Open up the Economy – Allow all small businesses to operate during the Level 4 Lockdown

We, business owners operating in Brackenhurst, Brackendowns in Alberton and surrounding areas hereby call on government to open up the economy more to allow for businesses such as garden services and other businesses which employ minimal staff to operate during the Lockdown, Level 4 under the Risk Adjusted Strategy as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

As a community which is negatively affected by the restrictions placed on small businesses such as garden services which essentially offer a necessary service; we would like to implore national government to reconsider its stance on restricting small businesses which are the engine of the South African economy.

A consideration by the National Covid Command Council is necessary in this regard as it will ensure that we are able to save both lives and livelihoods. It is therefore a plea we are making that government amend its regulations to allow for the operation of small businesses which are key to the economy of the country.

In making this request we are also taking into consideration that we will take all necessary precautions and safety measures to ensure we do not risk the spread of Covid-19. We believe that in allowing small businesses to operate, jobs will be secured in a safe manner, ensuring that we save both lives and livelihoods.
