My son and his friends love to use this facility and are very upset about the closure. There isn't many indoor skateparks in the area and it was somewhere enjoyable and safe for them to spend their time!

This skatepark is an invaluable resource to young people in the area. There is no other supervised, safe skatepark for kids to use at the coast and it would be a terrible loss.

A great place for local kids, young and old, to meet and develop new skills. NTC and the YMCA should get their heads together and sort something out rather than kick these kids out onto the streets. They need an all-weather alternative which is safe for all ages and abilities.

My son goes every saturday to the supervised sessions and we'd imagined he would continue to go every week alone as he gets older as he absolutely loves it. The park is excellent for both beginners and experienced scooters / skate boarders and is a really social space offering a healthy physical fun activity. I can't believe that YMCA are thinking of closing it down.

For the kids to have some fun... And a few memories of their youth

I think the YMCA is forgetting what its function is slightly. The youngsters need this facility. There is little enough for them. Otherwise they are hanging around the streets.

Because so many young & not so young people will have no skate park to go to if this is closed, it is a huge asset to the area.

Before the YMCA skate park opened it was a victim of drug abuse, when I started to skate urban mix my life turned around and I am just starting to get it back on track, if the skate park now closes God knows what I will do

My grandchildren especially the older boy, who live locally, all use the skate park on a regular basis, providing exercise, a challenging environment and an opportunity to develop coordination and confidence. This must not become yet again a case of profit before (young) people!

It's a disgrace they are even contemplating closing this fantastic facility for our kids, and for what? Yet another cafe in North Shields. My son's been going here for years made loads of great friends of all ages. YMCA would you rather see our kids hanging around the streets with nothing to do? You should hang your heads in shame for considering this!

Anything that can tempt youngsters away from sedentary pastimes and into active leisure activities has to be encouraged and not abandoned if at all possible.

It seems strange to close something that is popular and needed in the community to replace it with a cafe, which will just have to compete against all the other cafes in North Shields...

Please think of the children and keep this skatepark open.

We constantly hear that children need to get active this park is a brilliant resource to support kids to do just that. Its safe its open all year round keep it open for them .

North Tyneside Council - you have done nothing but decimate the area...

I cant believe how short sighted this decision is in a time when we are encouraging kids to get more active, plus they need somewhere to meet and hang out . Do not close down this facility its madness . Annie Sheridan

Kids need this space - safe, dry, fun &  some exercise.

My son has only been going to the skatepark for a few weeks as we have only just become aware that the facilities were there. He absolutely loves going and it is a brilliant way for kids to get active, learn new skills and socialise in a safe well organised environment. The decision to close it appears to be very underhand and North Shields does not need another cafe. What is really going on NTC?

Keep the skate park open! Healthy activity should be being promoted and championed, not sidelined for the sake of another unnecessary cafe. The skate park is the perfect opportunity to encourage social skills and healthy activity from an early age in a safe environment.
