Bringing Equestrian Sport to the news

2014 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials has just witnessed one of the most challenging and dispruptions in years. A course newly designed which even unseated the worlds top 3 riders. Only 24 of the 78 riders came back clear. Putting Badminton firmly back on the top.  The stormy conditions which it happened in added to it being the most contriversal event in recent years to hit the equestrian world. Yet hardly any coverage was given in the newspapers this Sunday Morning. Why? because sports editors prefer to give the main space to football, followed by rugby cricket golf snooker etc. which are all played by the MEN only (the women team versions are also under valued byt he press).  Its all very much stuck in a time wharp. Afterall Men are not the only ones buying newspapers these days.  Equestrianism is one of the only sports competed equally by men and women together. Its the 8th most popular sport in the UK and with almost 1million horses in the UK alone its also one of the most participated sports not just in the UK but in the world and by both sexes and all ages. There are no age limites within reason. its a sport truely suited to the majority yet it gets so little if no coverage. Its also the only sport where the athelete competes with an animal. Its been recognised in the Olympics (we won Gold and silver medals!) so why not the newspapers? This petition is to bring to the attention the popularity of this sport. In the hope that when one of the major international equestrian events is being held, the editors at least consider its value and at the very least publish a photo and a summary of the results. I for one would become a regular reader.
