We also live in an area with many dangerous snakes and snake catchers provides an essential service to relocate these snakes without harming them.

Corrine Rentzke (Marina Beach, 2023-05-02)

#403

I believe the work that Gerrie does is vital for the conservation of our snake species. Education is key

Amy Mocke (Swellendam, 2023-05-02)

#406

Please drop the charges against Gerrie Heyns

Jorika Rabie (Betty’s bay, 2023-05-02)

#407

He has a passion for what he does and he is trying to help the public. The authority should be ashamed of wanting to prosecute him. They should rather assist him in getting what he needs in order to continue to helping the public in education and safety.

Mike Preece (Bredasdorp cs, 2023-05-02)

#408

Gerrie Heyns is legendary in terms of rescuing snakes, relocating them, teaching about the importance of snakes, educating young and old. Cape Nature, get your act together and give him the licence he requires. Drop all charges as well!

Sue Preece (Bredasdorp, 2023-05-02)

#409

It's our humble request that the judge presiding over this matter/case drops all charges against Gerrie Heyns and rule that Cape Nature assist Gerrie in obtaining this license as they have failed to assist him as such. Gerrie is already doing all this work FREE OF CHARGE and fining him for something Cape Nature fails to do is a crime in itself.

Lionel Bruwer (Knysna, 2023-05-02)

#412

We need Gerrit, he is a great man.
Protects his animals and us

Moenadia Simunovic (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#414

Gerrie provides a vital rescue and educational service in our area. Many snakes would have died without his prompt, calm and kind response to requests for help .

Althea Van Zyl (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#416

Gerrie does an immense amount of good protecting snakes, educating people (incl children) about snakes and protecting people from snakes. One would expect people like Gerrie would be supported and not prosecuted!!

Wendy White (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#417

Without Gerrie, humans would still be so uneducated and harm our wildlife. He is one in a million and needs to carry on doing what he does.

Lynn Shaw (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#418

Gerrie is doing amazing work. Educating young people, old people, communities... he does not deserve the accusations and charges against him. I've learned a lot from him. Cape Nature is just being petty. He is doing this at no cost.

Louisa Smuts (Langebaan , 2023-05-02)

#420

it is unjustifiable what Cape Nature is doing. They should rethink their role.

Stian Bam (Stellenbsoch , 2023-05-02)

#421

It's all about conservation and raising awareness.

Flip Loots Jnr (Langebaan , 2023-05-02)

#423

Gerrie Heyns visted our factory when he was invited to come and do a talk about snakes. This man is proffessional and very knowledgable about the snakes. He does this free of charge, please support him to get the much needed license. I can honestly say he is doing a great job along with others in this proffession. We need Gerrie in our area.

Jeanne Komphela (Ashton, 2023-05-02)

#425

Gerrie is an amazing person and always there to help any animal in need of sophisticated care. The charges against him to help are absurd! What has become of mankind? How can we punish one of our own for protecting and relocating another species who has just as much as a right to be on Earth than we do.

Kaylee Smit (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#426

He is doing a good dead for snakes and he releases 99.99% - 101% of snakes

Louis petrus Stander (Onrus , 2023-05-02)

#432

Gerrie has done so much good, he has saved many lives with his commitment to removing snakes from threatening lives and releasing them in a safe environment. Maybe if cape nature did a bit of snake education he would not need to do it it himself. They just feel threatend of being shown up....

Colin Haines (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#433

I know Gerrie. He is as professional as can be regarding handling, removing and educating about snakes.

It is a disgrace struggling to obtain his licence. Still he gets fined regardless of having proof trying to get his licence.

Dropping the charges and helping Gerrie obtaining his licence will be keeping us all snake safe, educated and vigalent in and around our area.

Steven Nel (Ashton, 2023-05-02)

#434

The world needs more like Gerrie. This man is saving human lives and hurting no one. This is no crime. Lets allow common sense to rule here.

April Linkfield (Brooksville , 2023-05-02)

#435

Because he is removing snakes out of his own budget not charging anyone a sent making life better for human as well as the life of the animal at least you can do this for him he should be seen as a hero

Rohan Julius (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#436

I don’t know who is laying this charge but this is really ridiculous. If Cape Nature, who issue the requisite permits, requested that Gerrie give the presentation, well then they clearly know and agree to he fact that he will need to exhibit he snake. Anyone that knows Gerrie would know he’s responsible, passionate, know what he’s doing and is an asset to our community.
Whoever is laying the charge, get off your high horse…

Brendan Connellan (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#437

He did nothing wrong.

Cayla Van Loggerenberg (Malmesbury, 2023-05-02)

#439

I know Gerrie and he is honest and does wonders for all communities

Chrismari Bornman (Paarl, 2023-05-02)

#441

Gerrie had done nothing but help save human and snake lives with his education on snakes. To fine him when the organisation responsible has not performed its duties and then requested Gerrie to do training is ridiculous. Please do not fine him but rather require Cape Nature to fulfill their responsibilities.

Sandra Youngkrantz (Augrabies, 2023-05-02)

#442

He is a benefit to the community

Shané Venter Nel (Barrydale, 2023-05-02)

#443

Gerrie only serves the community with snake matters and educationals

PJ Basson (Montagu, 2023-05-02)

#444

I'm signing because he has been trying for 2 years to get this PAPA permit and Cape Nature knows this. No court is going to accept that he is waiting 2 years. As usual with these Natcons they take forever to issue anything and try all sorts of things to try and stop or hinder you getting anything. This normally without their reasons being legal or scientific. Actually quite ridiculous!

Gavin Carpenter (Durban, 2023-05-02)

#445

Gerrie had the due diligence to apply for permits and Caoe Nature never processed any permits and then they lured him to commit a crime via entrapment.

Craig Van Rensburg (Oslo Beach , 2023-05-02)

#446

Gerrie is an asset to the herpetofauna industry and offers invaluable work by educating the public on reptile safety and their roles in the ecosystem, saving the lives of many snakes and humans each year through venomous snake removals, reptile education and displays.
The world needs more Gerries

Chantel Galwey (Kirwan , 2023-05-02)

#449

This is pure entrapment

Alex Hamilton (East London , 2023-05-03)

#453

All Gerrie has done is good. Why punish him. Rather assist him in obtaining a permit that he has been asking for

Joyce Carmody (Albertinia, 2023-05-03)

#454

I have observed Gerrie’s efforts at providing education and assistance to the public, all of which are keenly focused on the safety of humans and animals. He has clearly made every reasonable effort to operate on the right side of the law, and punishing him for his efforts to help both people and wildlife would be a travesty of the highest order!

Steve Hawkins (Marion, 2023-05-03)

#455

The gvmt does not provide these services and the rehabbers provide these skills without payment by the gvmt. These absurd charges must be dropped.

Rob Bonnette (Southbroom, 2023-05-03)

#456

The charges are ridiculous.

Shelly Van Staden (Pretoria, 2023-05-03)

#457

Gerrie does incredible work education communities and keeping both humans and snakes safe.

Ilze Munday (Caledon, 2023-05-03)

#458

Gerrie Heyns' public lectures and his snake capture and release have become essential services to the Langeberg community. This case should be dropped and the requisite permit/s issued.

Euan Waugh (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#460

Saving lives and wildlife

Mark Nel (Mosselbay, 2023-05-03)

#461

Free Gerrie from all charges.

Joann Botes (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#463

Gerrie performs a wonderful service by capturing and relocating dangerous snakes that come into our suburban gardens. I have called him on a couple of occasions where a cobra has been within meters of my front door and many more occasions when I needed a reptile to be identified. I believe his service will be greatly missed and many pets and people's lives will be threatened should he be forced to stop. It's absurd that good, helpful folk, who go above and beyond come under attack. I sign this petition in support of all charges being dropped.

Terry Sadie (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#465

Gerrie is a valuable member of the Montagu community and does valuable work.
Residents, frequently have poisonous snakes on their property and Gerrie willing comes out and safely removes them.
He is well respected and loved by everyone in the community.
His regular educational talks are well supported and really enjoyed all who attend.
It appears to me, that Cape Nature has failed it's mandate and is completely useless.

John Sadie (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#466

Gerrie Heyns does exceptional work for the local community.

John Safie (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#467

He educates

Nikki Durrant (Gqeberha, 2023-05-03)

#468

I support Gerrie

Anelda Van den Heever (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#469

If he tried to get a permit and they allowed him to educate the people, why bring chargers against him. Double standards. He is not harming the snake(s).
Rather concentrate on the poachers.

Cristina Swart (East London, 2023-05-03)

#470

He has willingly helped our family in a desperate time, he doesn’t expect payment.
He won’t go anywhere unless he’s been asked

I believe these charges are unfair

Kelsi Jaimee Beyers (Ashton, 2023-05-03)

#471

Gerrie Heyns is an asset to the langeberg district with his service and knowledge

Inge Maritz (Mintagu, 2023-05-03)

#474

This is ridiculous. Drop all charges.

Reg de Lange (Jeffreys Bay, 2023-05-03)

#476

Gerrie Heyns delivers an extremely important service throughout the entire Langeberg area. He has personally prevented prople from unnecessarily killing snakes on their properties not to mention what he does to educate young people on snake safety and protection.

Anna-Karien Otto (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#480

Gerrie is an upstanding citizen and provides a much needed service to the community. He has tried everything to abide by the law. These charges are malicious.

Shannon Swanepoel (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#482

Gerrie should be given an award for his wonderful work

Carla Cole (Montagu , 2023-05-03)

#484

I know Gerrie as a responsible snake handler and he is helping communities with snake awareness, and safety.

Nico Swanepoel (Ashton, 2023-05-03)

#485

I'm signing because this is neglect from cape nature. there where a similar incident when they closed a petshop in robertson also about gecko lisence being not issued at the due date. poor owners lost everything and cape nature won due to their neglect on placing lisence on due date

Gerhard Van Der Westhuizen (Robertson, 2023-05-03)

#486

Gerrit Heyns is an asset to our community - he removes snakes when called upon, day OR night, relocates them safely. His enthusiasm and passion for snakes is evident . It is imperative that cape nature assist him to aquire the license he needs to do his snake capture and rehabilitation . I am signing this partition against charges leveled against Gerrit Haynes.

Janine deWet (Montagu , 2023-05-03)

#487

Gerrie has assisted me in the past with snakes in my yard. He is passionate about reptiles and saving them for generations to come.

Individuals as passionate and caring such as Gerrie should be supported.

Carien Ross (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#488

Gerrie has been amazing for this town and personally helped me to overcome my fears of snakes!

Jinx Louw (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#489

Truth has been distorted. This petson is doing al lot for the saving and protection of snakes

Tilla Nell (Saldanha, 2023-05-03)

#490

Gerrie Heynes is the victim here. Cape Nature should have been doing the wonderful community education and public safety service that he has rendered. Officialdom attacking an innocent soul in a heartless South Africa. 😔

Norman Angel (Montagu, 2023-05-03)

#491

I know what Gerrie means to this towns and he do it without any costs.

Annamarie Swart (Robertson, 2023-05-03)

#492

This man needs justice not harassment

Jeannie De Kock (St Helena Bay , 2023-05-03)

#493

Gerrie is an amazing snake lover and has relocated many snakes in our area. Education is his aim among our community. We appreciate everything he has done. Stop and look at his role in the Western Cape and drop all charges please.

Jennifer De Backer (Barrydale, 2023-05-03)

#494

Gerrie is an absolute asset to the townspeople, he has assisted and protected both the people and the snakes!! This us a travesty of justice!!!!

Donna Pugin (Montagu, 2023-05-04)

#495

Pure injustice from Cape Nature side towards someone who loves, protects and educates which in turn saves lives. You should be assisting Gerrie Heyns, not fining him.

Chantelle Spangenberg (Worcester, 2023-05-04)

#496

Gerrie does important work, for the wildlife of his community, for the safety of his community and for education within his community for both children and adults alike. To penalise this man for his tireless commitment and incredibly hard work would be absolute insanity.

Roulla Janse Van Rensburg (Johannesburg , 2023-05-04)

#497

I believe that Gerrie innocent.

He educates the whole of Langeberg, farm workers, school children and community regarding safety around snakes.

Tracy van der Merwe (Montagu, 2023-05-04)

#498

I am signing this, because I truly feel that Gerrie is an amazing guy, that has saved alot of people's lives by educating and helping them to learn more about snake and the dangers, as well as on how to handle them. I feel he is a hero and should keep up the good work!

Bianca Lawrence (Western cape, 2023-05-04)

#499

I can’t believe Cape Nature will take a man like Gerrie to court!! a Man that will jump in his car at any given time, place or even on holiday and jump in his car to help remove a snake or even a spider out someone’s house and do this out of love and don’t even charge!! We have rescued countless animals together from the roads being hit by cars and get them to a rehab or vet that’s 3hrs drive away from where he lives. What next will Cape Nature charge when they find a bird of prey in your car that you saved by getting it to a rehab.. You guys really disappoint me!! You discourage people to help animals!! Who do you think you are!! Go after people that does harm!! Put up signs on the farm roads to drive slow and help find solutions on how to assist people like Gerrie to do what he does Best!! Don’t brake his Spirit because you want money from a man that needs support because of the law!! The system you support needs to fall for its unsustainable!! Rather help than Break Down something that’s making a difference!!

Patricia van der Watt (Montagu , 2023-05-04)

#500

I believe that the charges against Gerrie Heyns should be dropped, he’s doing good for nature and education regarding reptiles! The charges is absurd and wrong!

Tanya Van der Merwe (Bloemfontein , 2023-05-04)

#501

I am signing this petition solely because I have seen how much Gerrie Heyns is working hard for nothing but the safety of our community and nature. I have seen how he could drive long hours to rescue a snake so he prevents harm to individuals. I have seen his videos on YouTube and pictures on snake education, people seem to love and enjoy his education and I have no doubt his education benefits people.

The work and education Gerrie Heyns is doing, I don't know of any government departments doing such, no number to call a government department to come remove snake in our yards that I know of, no snake education from our government but Gerrie Heyns is offering such education.

I never knew why we should not poison animals until I read a article by the cycle of life in living species which might eventually kill a human being from such poison.

99% of human (including myself) fear snakes, don't know what to do should they see one, but Gerrie Heyns is spreading the education.

Khathutshelo Khorombi (Carletonville, 2023-05-04)

#502

These charges are outrageous at the very least.
Gerrie Heyns is an upstanding citizen, who Nissan well respected in his community, and does more for conservation than anyone in the vicinity.

He is of absolutely no financial burden to Cape Nature. If anything, Gerrie should be treated as an asset, as he not only rescues animals, but provides education to members of the public.

Cape Nature should encourage people to support a culture of conservation and education, rather than prosecute people who try save animals.

This entire case seems to be a money grabbing exercise, and a useless witch hunt.

Gerrie has applied for ALL required permits, and is awaiting Cape Nature to fulfil their part, in order to make Gerrie Heyns's edicationl talks acceptably legal in their eyes.

Stop the proceedings immediately!

Steven Behrens (Adelaide, 2023-05-04)

#503

I support Gerrie.

Ferdie Mocke (Centurion, 2023-05-05)

#504

He is a legend and trying to change peoples views from Negative to Positive.

Wessel Bloem (Durban, 2023-05-05)

#506

Gerrie Heyns has been a life saver on many occasions, due to snakes in private residences as well as rescuing snakes and release them in safe environments. Both humans and snakes, if I may speak on behalf of the snakes, are grateful for having Gerrie in our municipal boundaries. If it was not for Gerrie, many citizens in Montagu and surrounding would have been bitten by snakes, with fateful consequences.

Theodine Van Rensburg (Montagu, 2023-05-05)

#507

I have been in a similar situation, and know how Cape Nature operates.

Etwin Aslander (Barrydale , 2023-05-05)

#509

I am signing because Gerrie is only doing good in the community, protecting both people and snakes, mostly using his own money. If Cape Nature utilizes Gerrie for talks, then surely the correct licenses should be issued without laying fines on him.

Cobus Stander (Ashton, 2023-05-08)

#510

All charges should be dropped against Gerrie Heyens

Karen Hendricks (Montagu, 2023-05-09)
