Athletics Track Resurfacing at Bury

I believe a new track in Bury is vital in supporting athletics in the town and neighbouring areas.

Mark Granby (Bury, 2021-12-10)

I’m signing because Bury Athletics Club is one of the longest established sporting organisations in the town and currently boasts some of the best male and female athletes across Greater Manchester and Lancashire. Restoring the track surface to a suitable standard is the least we can do to support the continued efforts of the athletes and their coaches.

Joshua Cole (Christchurch , 2021-12-10)

The Market Street Athletics Track is a highly valued community asset which is regularly used by 4 local athletics clubs, community groups, charities, Bury College and numerous local schools. It is a facility available to all regardless of ability or disability for sport, physical health, education and leisure. The track is at the end of it's working life and needs to be upgraded in order to meet current UK Athletics safety standards.

John Conroy (Rochdale, 2021-12-10)

Being a coach at the club I can see at first hand the good that is done during the week days when the local disability clubs use the facilities and then the health benefits to the local juniors of being involved in athletics with many ongoing into local, regional and national competitions.
This facility is a vital part of the local community.

Lewis MAJOR (Newton Abbot, 2021-12-10)

The track is used by over 5,000 different people each year. It cuts across all ages, all cultures and all demographics.
It is a facility that is crucial to the health and wellbeing of the whole of Bury.
The track has been a valuable asset to the town for over a century and it should be there and available to the people of Bury for the next 100+years.
A new track is therefore essential.

Roger Morley (Bury, 2021-12-10)

The track at Bury's Market Street facility, used by Bury Athletic Club, is important to enable athletes to train, youngsters to develop and others to stay fit. We can't afford to lose sports facilities, exercise is so important for people's wellbeing. It is essential that a new track is provided here as the current track comes to the end of its life.

Janet Graham (Crewe, 2021-12-10)

My daughter trains and competes with Bury Athletics Club.

A new track would be beneficial to all the athletes

Lynne Whittaker (Bury, 2021-12-10)

I first became involved with Bury athletic club in 1972. Over almost 50 years I have been involved as an athlete and later as groundstaff and track official. Currently the club is probably the most organised it has been over that period. The standard of coaching and the number of people involved is also the best it has been in my time. The club is also the most inclusive it has ever been. However the actual track which is essential for club's activities is in very poor condition and needs to be resurfaced.

Martin Farnworth (Bury, 2021-12-10)

My daughter and her fellow Bury Athletics Club junior members train and compete regularly at the venue so investment to keep the track serviceable and safe is essential. It is a superb venue and encourages young people to put their energies into healthy sporting activities.

Ian Hill (Rochdale, 2021-12-10)

I am signing because the athletic track should be a place where people can run safely and experience the joy of physical training to maintain their mental well being. With more people having mental health issues it's essential that Bury provides a track that is safe to run on without fear of injury. This should be done as soon as possible please.

Deborah Nield (Bury, 2021-12-10)

This well used community facility is a key part of local life and should be subject of reinvestment

Bury deserve a new track, its wear and tear and we have travelled for the use of the track. Its becoming hard under the athletes feet. A new track would benefit the athletes times on races. Up grade on the facilities is very much needed.

Donita Benjamin (manchester, 2021-12-11)

My niece and her school use the tracks.

Alison Denholm (Manchester , 2021-12-11)

I’m signing because failure to go ahead with such a project would deny many citizens of Bury the opportunity to participate in sporting activity. This relates, in particular to many Bury children who deserve great facilities. Criminal not to do it!

Albert Lord (Bolton, 2021-12-11)

I run at the track a lot. It motivates me to run and improve. It had a great team spirit.

The facilities at Bury need improving for everyone to benefit.

Two of my children use this track. Losing it would be a massive blow to them. Being a part of Bury Athletics Club has helped them in so many ways; not only have they improved their fitness and taken part in competitions, but their self confidence and wellbeing has grew too, it also brings the community together which helps to meet new people send form friendships. There is so much positivity surrounding this club/track and all it does - everything ought to be done to ensure it remains.
