I’m signing because Bury Athletics Club is one of the longest established sporting organisations in the town and currently boasts some of the best male and female athletes across Greater Manchester and Lancashire. Restoring the track surface to a suitable standard is the least we can do to support the continued efforts of the athletes and their coaches.

Joshua Cole (Christchurch , 2021-12-10)

The Market Street Athletics Track is a highly valued community asset which is regularly used by 4 local athletics clubs, community groups, charities, Bury College and numerous local schools. It is a facility available to all regardless of ability or disability for sport, physical health, education and leisure. The track is at the end of it's working life and needs to be upgraded in order to meet current UK Athletics safety standards.

It is a facility that is crucial to the health and wellbeing of the whole of Bury.

The track at Bury's Market Street facility, used by Bury Athletic Club, is important to enable athletes to train, youngsters to develop and others to stay fit. We can't afford to lose sports facilities, exercise is so important for people's wellbeing. It is essential that a new track is provided here as the current track comes to the end of its life.

Lynne Whittaker (Bury, 2021-12-10)

#61

I first became involved with Bury athletic club in 1972. Over almost 50 years I have been involved as an athlete and later as groundstaff and track official. Currently the club is probably the most organised it has been over that period. The standard of coaching and the number of people involved is also the best it has been in my time. The club is also the most inclusive it has ever been. However the actual track which is essential for club's activities is in very poor condition and needs to be resurfaced.

Martin Farnworth (Bury, 2021-12-10)

#62

My daughter and her fellow Bury Athletics Club junior members train and compete regularly at the venue so investment to keep the track serviceable and safe is essential. It is a superb venue and encourages young people to put their energies into healthy sporting activities.
