#401

The can' allow one sport and not another, thats just stupid

Andy Simpson (Port St Mary, 2022-01-27)

#405

People need access to wild places. They should be made aware of the risks and responsibilities entailed in their activity then allowed to pursue it.

Gwen Ainsworth (Preston, 2022-02-01)

#406

I'm a keen paddleboarder in cumbria

Steve Hanlon (Newcastle , 2022-02-02)

#411

Exercise and fresh air are so vital for recovery after Covid, there should be no reason for stopping this type of activity.

Kay Fawcett (Nuneaton , 2022-02-07)

#412

There is no good reason to prevent water sports on the majority of reservoirs.

Dave Bradshaw (Tamworth, 2022-02-10)

#413

This blanket ban on paddleboarding is ridiculous. UU attempt justify it on the grounds of eight deaths in the last decade, but present no evidence that any of these have been during paddlesport activity.

David Martin (Rossendale, 2022-02-22)

#414

I have previously used both these lakes

Ade Gidney (Cleator, 2022-02-23)

#417

Granting recreational use to blue/green space should be a priority for all companies. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

Andy Oughton (Leicester, 2022-02-23)

#419

Open water , open access so we can enjoy safe paddling with all craft . would it be possible that paddlers have to show a permit stating they are at a competant level ie 2= or explore award like we used to do to hire sea kayaks etc at coastal locations . just a thought.

dean jordan (leeds, 2022-02-23)

#420

Access should not have been restricted in the first place. We don’t all want to paddle among motorised boats or in busy areas. Some of us board as a form of relaxation and mindfulness which can’t always be achieved at other locations

Kelly Beecroft (Halifax , 2022-02-23)

#421

It’s important for people to go out side, relax and exercise close where they live.
All this can be safe and sustainable!

Mark-Jan Dielemans (Bristol, 2022-02-23)

#424

We who live in the lakes, like to use the lakes

Neil Haigh (Cockermouth , 2022-02-23)

#426

There is no greater risk to using a SUP versus other watercraft.

Suzanne Reid (Cumbernauld, 2022-02-23)

#427

I am an active paddler and the waters should be available for enjoyment.

Colin Lutley (Teynham, 2022-02-23)

#430

Safe water paddling should not be restricted

John Moore (Liverpool, 2022-02-23)

#435

I live and work in Cumbria and find being in the water has helped me to relax, especially over the last 18 months when I have been working full time and covering for colleagues who were furloughed. Paddling on the lakes has helped to clear my mind and boost my mental health. These two lakes are mostly used by locals as they aren't as busy as other lakes in the county especially when tourists come along.

Clare Hockenhull (Aspatria, 2022-02-23)

#437

I am a SUP fan. Have lived in the Lake District all my life and love been out on my SUP. I take safety very seriously, even though I am a confident swimmer. I wouldn’t never go out on my board without my floatation device.

Linda Christie (Aspatria, 2022-02-23)

#445

I love the lakes and quietly enjoying time on my SUP

Lisa Cook (Liverpool, 2022-02-23)

#450

We need to keep access to our National bodies of water for suppers everywhere

Claire Richards (Cambridge, 2022-02-23)

#451

Paddle Boarding should be allowed on all waters.

Nick Vincent (Winsford, 2022-02-23)

#452

I am signing because of the mental health benefits of paddleboarding can literally be life changing , we should be encouraging more outside sport and what better way than on the water in beautiful locations such as this

Graeme Blundell (Wimborne, 2022-02-23)

#453

I’m a paddle boarder and use the lakes during the summer and feel passionate about the right to paddle like canoeist and kayakers

Jason Hill (Horsham, 2022-02-23)

#456

I’m signing because I believe there is no good reason for refusing and restricting access to paddle boarders from these two lakes.

Claire Young (Haddington, 2022-02-23)

#461

I am signing because this makes no sense, Paddleboarders should be treated in the same way as kayaks.
It’s not about banning something that helps people with mental health, if there is concern about cold water, encourage people to use the right water wear.

Gary Willingham (Poole, 2022-02-23)

#464

I think paddle boarding and swimming should be allowed in both Ennerdale and Thirlmere

Lorna Earl (Frizington, 2022-02-23)

#467

SUP is an extremely accessible and rewarding activity. It allows people to get the most of the outdoors and it is environmentally friendly.

It is one of the safest water sports provided appropriate personal floatation devices and leashes are worn.

Oliver Nawrat (Westcliff , 2022-02-23)

#473

I'm signing because many people want to be on the water and don't have a truck or SUV to transport a hard board. Access should be for all people and not just the wealthy.

Andrea Johnson (Jensen Beach, 2022-02-24)

#474

Paddle boarders should have the same usage rights as kayakers

Peter Fletcher (Leeds, 2022-02-24)

#476

Paddle boarding is not swimming, poor understanding of our sport to ban it outright

Colin Playle (Waltham, 2022-02-24)

#480

I paddle board throughout the UK and I would like this facility to continue to be available.

Justin Bilton (Telford, 2022-02-24)

#486

There is a freedom when paddling that should be available to all to experience

Emma Martin (Leeds, 2022-02-24)

#487

We should be free to paddle responsibly.

Louise Nolan (London , 2022-02-24)

#489

Blindly restricting an activity will make it illegal and people will find ways to enter the water behind the back of the authorities.
It is better to control dangerous waters, and state that only with good material and preparation (like bringing a flotation device and a personal locator beacon) it is allowed is so much wiser

Tina Rooms (9160 - Lokeren, 2022-02-25)

#491

It's unfare and an abuse of tge queen's freedom

Trisha Poole (Wigan, 2022-02-25)

#492

It’s a national park and everyone should have access on land and water.

Simon Hindle (Durham, 2022-02-25)

#495

I was planning a sup adventure to the lakes this summer which I was looking forward to and of course spending my money In the local area. I’m now left very disappointed if I can’t sup there is no point me coming to see the lovely sights the lakes have to offer.
May I just say it’s absolutely crazy to ban paddle boarding speaking from experience it’s much easier to get on a paddle board (which we are all leashed to) than it is back on to a canoe or kayak oh and I just thought I would mention I have never fallen off my paddle board come on United utilities this is discrimination there is no more a risk of drowning on a paddle board than there is on a kayak!

Michaela Ives (Southampton, 2022-02-25)

#497

The outdoors is for everyone

Izzy Denton (Exeter, 2022-02-26)

#498

I have friends who SUP and i see the benefits to their mental health. It seems ridiculous to ban 1 out of the 3 similar sports.

Judith Hutchings (Bishop Auckland, 2022-02-26)

#502

Taking away my right to paddleboard on a site that accepts canoes

Gaynor Hamilton (Manchester , 2022-02-27)

#503

It takes the rights of people away when they should be able self determine.

Darrin Southward (CRLISLE , 2022-02-27)

#504

Sup uses provide no greater danger than kayak users.

Alistair Othen (Oswestry, 2022-02-28)

#509

It's ridiculous to single out SUP as a danger sport and ban it from your lakes. If there is any dangerous places on the lake, can these not be marked or fenced off? Its either safe for all paddle craft or safe for none.

Andrew Guthrie (Wallasey , 2022-03-03)

#514

I enjoy the freedom of paddle boarding

Ashley Nicholson (Cumbria , 2022-03-15)

#518

I have Supped for 5 years in all weathers and conditions. This is an absurd assumption that SUP represents a greater danger than other water sports. It goes against my extensive personal experience. There is no evidence to support the assumption and it denies many people a right to access public waterways and enjoy the natural environment.

Andrew Burrows (Pitlochry, 2022-04-04)

#519

The right to roam should also be extended to water sports to reduce overall strain on nhs and healthcare services with forward thinking and not just in the now. Or will they magically have a company appearing renting boards and daily licenses for ££££ don’t you dare

#525

Corporations are killing the lakes!

The lakes have provided generations of family’s fun and adventure, why stop this now. Family fun and adventure has evolved, don’t stop it now!

Scott Warley (Southport, 2022-04-04)

#526

I’m signing because I am passionate about rights and SUP

Jill Crangle (Glasgow, 2022-04-04)

#527

An outright ban is ridiculous. A better effort would be to promote water and paddle safety for all craft and users. Other similar providers accept signed and agreed disclaimers, the wearing of wetsuits and buoyancy aids and the holding of 3rd party liability insurance such as that included as part of a British Canoeing membership. Preventing such use may ultimately lead to inexperienced users using alternative locations which may be unsuitable for their level of training and ability. A more positive approach could include training and assessments on site to ensure maximum potential safety and paddle environmental awareness. All this before even mentioning the mental health and wellbeing benefits that paddle boarding brings in the fastest growing global sport that should only be encouraged and never discouraged! I would be interested in viewing their "evidence" on banning paddle boarding and their justification for doing so. Do they really consider someone who has just bought a flimsy inflatable kayak for £90 from a supermarket who has never been out on the water before safer and more aware of risks, weather and water conditions, route planning and emergency exit routes and able to self rescue than someone such as even myself with 30 years of experience, paddlefit, having a considerable amount of knowledge, awareness and practical training and paddlesport instructor and leadership qualifications with all the correct clothing and safety equipment with a rugged £1000 paddle board?! The decision urgently needs reviewing and changing to one that supports and promotes positive, safe and enjoyable paddlesport for all!!

Clare Rutter (Cardigan , 2022-04-05)

#529

I see no issue with SUP on lakes. This promotes healthy wellbeing and will be done by those appreciating nature.

Dan Banks (South Tyneside, 2022-04-05)

#535

It makes absolutely no sense to allowed canoes and kayaks but not paddleboards

Jamie Whittaker (Daventry, 2022-04-08)

#540

I think responsible use of water including training is better than outright bans.

Mike McCarthy (St. Helens , 2022-04-11)

#542

I sup.

Steven Teggart (Grange over sands , 2022-04-11)

#546

People should have free public access to our waterways

Edward Johnson (CLEETHORPES, 2022-04-12)

#548

I’m signing because I’m a safe supper.

Niki Tarbuck (Leeds, 2022-04-12)

#552

Im signinging this because I strongly disagree that SUP is more risky and should be allowed.

Scott Chegg (Lincoln, 2022-04-12)

#553

I object to the banning of stand up paddle boards on open water.

Neal Evans (Lincoln, 2022-04-12)

#562

Paddleboarding is great for fitness and mental health

Kate Rodgers (Sheffield, 2022-04-12)

#566

I believe there should be free access for non polluting activities on reservoir's

Mark Rowland (Selby, 2022-04-12)

#567

Water was here for everyone before big corporations were about. The planet is mainly water and should be there for all not just the few who profiteer.

Michael Oxer (Sheffield , 2022-04-12)

#572

I’m a SUP boarder

Robin Wightman (Leeds, 2022-04-13)

#574

I believe we should have access to water in a safe manner.

john bagshaw (Harrogate, 2022-04-13)

#580

I’m signing because Paddleboarding is one of the safest sports out there and is so good for mental health and well-being

Sarah Thornely (Liphook, 2022-04-13)

#583

I'm a responsible and capable paddleboarder. We attach ourselves to our SUP via a quick release waist belt. If we do fall in then we are tethered to our craft which is easy to get back on. Most canoes have a skirt cover up to waist. These canoes can easily roll over submerging paddler under water still in the canoe. If unconscious they cannot remove their skirt and remain in their canoe. I cannot see how a canoe is allowed but a paddleboard deemed more dangerous. Surely it's the other way around!

Jayne Bellwood (Leeds, 2022-04-13)

#585

I,m signing because we should be allowed to paddle

Tracy Elliott (Leicester, 2022-04-13)

#587

There is no fact-based reason why the lakes should be off limits to paddleboarders and not to other paddle craft - simply unfair and invalid

Tony Munns (Peterborough, 2022-04-13)

#598

Access to these bodies of water for paddleboarding should remain as access has previously been allowed and access is being kept for other non powered craft. Access to these places for outdoor activities is essential to many peoples mental health and wellbeing.

Eleanor Byworth (Bury St Edmunds, 2022-04-13)

#599

I love paddle boarding

Bacardi-lea King (Cleethorpes, 2022-04-13)
