I am signing because I think it is important that Norway maintain a stable presence in Athens to carry on its tradition of studies.
I had the chance to experiment it.

I have over the years spent much time in Athens and I have benefited enormously from having a Norwegian institute there. It provides an entry point and a base for conducting research that can not be matched by universities at home. It would be an absolute shame for the institute to be shut down.

Självklart skall det norska institutet i Athen finnas kvar! Har Norge glömt vad som höll på att hända i Sverige hösten 2014?

I took a course at the Norwegian institute last summer and follow its activities on social media, hoping to go back one day. The activities conducted at the institute are an important part of our common heritage and culture.

Jeg tror på at gammel-tro og historie er viktig for fremtidige fremskritt, jeg ønsker derfor ikke en fortsettelse av kutt i felt som arkeologi.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens has been very active in the past years and has contributed to the dynasmism of archaeological research in Greece throught important scientific manifestations and excavations. In a period when Greece, Greek archaeology and Greek archaeologists are experiencing severe problems, it is fundamental that foreign archaeological Institutes show their support and promote collaborations.

I'm signing because it is an honour for my country to have have such institutes researching and promoting Greek ancient history and culture. The contribution of the Norwegian Institute at Athens in this respect has been significant. It created a space for academic research and cultural exchange that for Greeks in this period of crisis has proven valuable.

Having spent three years in Athens working in the archaeological field, I can attest to the important role played by the foreign institutes like the Norwegian Institute. They facilitate the scholarly work and study of both members and non members, be it ancient and modern research, exvavation permits and arrangements, public relations, and lectures on current topics, art, and literature. They are an approachable extension of each country's national presence in the arena and, as such, I agree that help with future funding and support should come from national sources.

Because without the study of the past the present is without purpose. It is a common sign of civilization for Western society to study and keep studying antiquity as our common past because it gave us i.e democracy. Democracy which is challenged so very much these years. I rank Norway as a civilized, developed and responsible Nordic country - but even considering to close the Institute in Athens is a shame.

After several years of cooperation in archaeological research, I witnessed that Norwegian Institute in Athens showing professionalism at the highest level, not only in archaeological research, but also in the organization of scientific conferences. Closing the institute will cause great harm to science.

Norway should be a cultural country as many others much more unfortunate in wealth than others. Our students and children and scolars should be able to learn and visit and have a natural place at the institutt to come to!
