Enough is enough

(Piertermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

The dump needs to be moved out of a residential area and away from schools.

Fires at the dump

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1008

My health and that of my family and friends has been severely compromised as a result of the weekly fires at the landfill. Even when there are no fires there is always the rotten smell wafting across the city of Pietermaritzburg

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1009

We live very close to the dump and are experiencing the state of affairs as a health risk to us as well as everyone in the city.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1010

It's a massive health hazzard. My one son attends St Charles and they have been closed for 2 days in their exam time when lessons are vital and my other son attends Varsity College which was also closed yesterday. The pickers who rule the site and activities therein also need to be removed.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1012

I am totally opposed to the people and animals of this town being exposed to the toxic fumes from the landfill. This is a serious health issue.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1013

I am concerned for my children’s health

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1014

The toxic fumes from the almost constant fires have caused many illnesses and destroying our air quality so much that we can't enjoy our homes or outdoor activities. The dump has outlived its use by many years and has been mismanaged for far to long.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1018

I can't BREATHE!!! It has gone in too long now you thieving corrupt idiots at the so called municipality do NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR RATEPAYERS AT ALL

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1020

This is an unsightly, illegal sight, that causes health as well as safety risks. Just 2 reasons of many.

(Pretoria, 2019-10-08)

#1021

My son goes to school near the landfill and they have to close every time due to the toxic fumes emitted during a fire

(Johannesburg, 2019-10-08)

#1022

I have been effected, school has been closed (my first final matric exam is in two days) and I have had multiple nosebleeds and a constant headache for the last 4 days

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1023

Im signing because the dump has bevome a serious health hazzard to All

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1025

For my and my family health

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1028

It's a health risk and in general is closing schools

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1030

I’m affected by it and action needs to be taken

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1033

I am tired of the excuses the Msunduzi officials hand out. It is time to employ people who are qualified to deal with hazards before they become the problem we are faced with now.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1034

Living in Pmb is like living in hell it stinks.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1035

This is absolutely disgraceful and something needs to be done

(London, 2019-10-08)

#1036

Move the landfill site with immediate effect. Stop wasting further resources.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1038

Health risks at school

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1042

I can barely breathe while I'm in this area during the recent fires.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1049

My child's school is about 1km away and on burning days have to stay indoors. We stay about 3km away and when burning can actually smell it. It must be a health issue for all around the area.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1051

Our health is affected.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1053

I am from Scottsville and it's very unhealthy

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1054

I am a resident in Pietermaritzburg and living with this polluted air is not acceptable. This dump must be managed professionally and also moved as it is too close to valuable properties, schools and residences. Unacceptable! What wod the world health organizations say to this? Shocking

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1055

I'm asthmatic as well as my 2 year old son! The pollution is unacceptable!

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-08)

#1057

I am signing this because it is affecting my line and my families health.

(Pietermaritzburg City of Pollution, 2019-10-08)

#1060

Health concerns for the citizens !

(Cape Town, 2019-10-08)

#1061

I think that it is absolutely horrendous that children should even have to go to school during this intoxicating time, the schools should be more careful and cautious and give the poor kids the whole week (or at least more than one day) to recover from the toxins of the smoke!
I am completely outraged at this!

(Howick , 2019-10-08)

#1063

We can no longer sit back and allow this to happen. We have a right to clear air and this is being taken from us. There is no management of this dump area and something needs to be done

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-08)

#1077

Because I go to one of those 3 schools and don't want to ruin my education with bad air

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1078

kids shouldn't be exposed to these carcinogens...

(kokstad, 2019-10-09)

#1079

This facility needs to be better structured. On visiting it is clear the management have lost control.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1080

I would like to feel like my children can breathe safely at school and remain healthy

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1085

I live in hayfields and the smoke and smell is over powering.

(pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1089

School children and the environment are suffering.

(Dalton, 2019-10-09)

#1094

I'm suffering from that continuous stench of the burning dump.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1096

The dump is a health hazard and the babies, children, elderly as well as our furry friends are being affected by this. Please we beg. Move the dump.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1097

My son and myself suffer sinus issues and this week we have never felt so terrible.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1098

It is a huge health hazard. You have a burning plastic smell day in and day out.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1099

My kids are at school in PMB and this affects their health and school life massively. Its extremely unhealthy.

(Hilton, 2019-10-09)

#1100

My biggest concern is the residents that are close to the dump, especially the children!

It is so sad that the well being of PMB residents are not being taken seriously. Very disappointed :(

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1103

The dump and its periodic fires poses a health risk to all in the city.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1105

This is an absolute disgrace and members of our community are at serious risk.

(Hilton, 2019-10-09)

#1106

this Dump is affecting my education and health

(Ballito, 2019-10-09)

#1107

i’m a worried citizen of this beautiful city and i want us to become a thriving metropolitan in due time. the dump is stumping our metro statues and holds us back when ever it burns and choke the city in a toxic smoke. the dump needs to be relocated out of the city away from making the citizens sick. the dump needs to relocated to allow for the new estates and houses being built in the dump area to see investment and grow for the city .

(pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1109

1.The health hazards these fumes are causing to us.
2.Our children take time off on the days when there is landfill fires, this impacts on their learning.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1111

I am signing this because I care about the lives of my children and those of my fellow Pietermaritzburg neighbours. These fires have been raging for years yet the mucnicipality and local government dont care, and deal with symptoms. We should also take this legal.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1115

I want the municipality to realize how serious the problem actually is and action asap whether it be better managed or look at relocating in the near future

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1117

I'm signing because my children and grandchildren live in the area and it is not healthy at all.

(Underberg, 2019-10-09)

#1119

The failure of the municipality to manage the New England Road Landfill is in violation of the Environmental right (Section 24) of our constitution.. Everyone has the right to a) an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being, and b) the right to have the environment protected through reasonable legislation snd other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation.

The toxic blanket over the city has violated our rights to clean air. That compounds are carcinogenic is very scary!

Please Msundusi, you have to get on top of this!

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1122

The dump is disgusting and a health hazard to all who live in the vicinity.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1124

I'm signing this petition because my mom lives in Hayfields and she has a constant cough. It worsens when one can smell the dump burning. I am the one who will be looking after her if she gets sick. I also believe that it affects the value of the whole of Pietermaritzburg. The dump fires make living and working dangerous for everyone including my employees and family.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1125

The site poses a threat to our heath. We smell noxious gases most of the time when it burns down. Also it is filthy

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1127

I am signing this petition, as I have had 2 son’s attending St Charles College and every year we have a problem with the dump burning and school closing. This affects time at school and more importantly is a health hazard.

(Salt Rock , 2019-10-09)

#1129

Fires at the dump contaminate the air dangerously and there are far too many schools and residents affected.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1130

My son goes to school there and it is a hazard and unhealthy!!!!

(Durban North, 2019-10-09)

#1133

Health over everything!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1135

We live in the area and it is making us sick. It is bringing down the value of our property. There is a new development going up opposite the dump. How can anyone want to buy there knowing the dump is a stone's throw away. It is disgusting. Can't sit outside, can't open the doors and windows. It is polluting the whole of PMB. The City of Choice. What a joke Mr Mayor. Please move the dump and manage the waste disposal in an ecofriendly process.

(pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1137

This dump is toxic and should not be in town. It should have been moved ages ago

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1138

I’m signing because I teach and live in the carcinogenic air created by the dump and it is killing us all. Please move it!

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1139

The pollution in the air is a health hazard for all of us in pietermaritzburg ! The dumping site has to be moved !

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1140

I am a concerned hayfields resident

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1143

The dump is not well maintained; is a health hazard to communities, schools and other businesses, only accessible through one point, needs urgent attention.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1147

I lived and worked in in PMB for 31 years. The place where I worked was badly affected by dump fires on several occasions in the last 19 years and the smoke was extremely toxic. (I think it was GroundUp that sent samples to the States for analysis.)The situation is becoming worse and worse and human lives are seriously affected healthwise, financially, and by seeing a destruction of their sense of place.

(Howick, 2019-10-09)

#1150

I have children at St John's DSG & live & work from home in Hayfields. I am fed up with the consistently deteriorating management of the landfill over the past 10 years. The frequency of fires has increased & it takes longer to regain control each time. What are we paying the annually increasing municipal rates for when service delivery is decreasing!?

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1152

The dump is a danger and should be out of range of people and schools!

(Durban, 2019-10-09)

#1154

I am tired of breathing in toxic air. Being a teacher at a school close to the dump... I'm very concerned about the health of our young children. They should not have to be exposed to these toxins

(Pmb, 2019-10-09)

#1156

I'm affected badly by the ongoing fires

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1157

It needs to be moved, as it is a health hazzard

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1159

We are living close to the dump and experience the nasty fumes and odors which results in our heath being affected, coughing which affects our throats and chest, sinuses, burning and teary eyes.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1160

We need change now!!

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1161

I live in Hayfields and the smoke from the dump is affecting the health of my children. They are coughing and their noses are running.

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1162

The dump is burning and causing health problems to people and animals breathing in the toxic fumes

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1163

I live in New England road and I and my family have been suffering with sinus and respiratory disorders.
It is imperative you move the dump!

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-09)

#1169

Our kids health is important

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-09)

#1173

My children go to school in Pietermaritzburg, and are regularly affected by these fires health wise as well as lack of schooling due to closure.

(Fawn Leas, 2019-10-09)

#1178

Environmental health disaster could lead to human health adverse effects

(Pelham, 2019-10-09)

#1179

It’s a real health hazard and effects all people living in Pietermaritzbrg

(Pietermaritzbrg , 2019-10-10)

#1180

The dump is very harmful to us children and can cause very serious health problem later on in our future. It is also very ugly to be right next to "the city of choice", it is not saying much for our city.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-10)

#1182

I have severe asthma and have been staying in Lincoln Mead. My asthma has deteriorated so much that I have become house bound and cannot go out without my husband.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-10)

#1188

This health hazard needs to be relocated further away from residential areas and then properly managed!!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-10)

#1191

This is absolutely unacceptable and there is clearly no consideration taken for the residents and school children that are being affected and the serious side effects that are life threatening.

(Ithaca , 2019-10-10)

#1195

Things need to change

(Pietermaritzburg , 2019-10-10)

#1198

This is ridiculous and harmful!!

(Wartburg, 2019-10-11)

#1199

I'm signing because the Msunduzi Municipality is not capable to manage anything, let alone a landfill site!
The pollution that is caused by the fires does irreparable harm to our health, the fumes, stench and the toxic smoke attacks our lungs, especially those of us who suffer from lung, Rhinitus and Sinitus problems.
It is and absolute mess, the recycable garden refuse site has been closed, so you have to drive into the Landfill site which is chaotic, you are accosted by the Recyclers/Collectors and feel quite threatened.
Not acceptable.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2019-10-11)
