We, the undersigned residents and businesses in Benoni and surrounding affected wards, through Cllr Lornette Joseph and the other Benoni DA councillors, call on the City of Ekurhuleni to urgently complete and bring the Morehill Substation upgrade online to strengthen the electricity network and reduce pressure on neighbouring substations.
Residents across multiple wards continue to experience electricity interruptions, network instability and low and high voltage fluctuations. Completing the Morehill Substation upgrade is a critical step towards improving network security and reducing the need to shift loads onto already strained substations.
We call on the City to:
1. Complete and commission the Morehill Substation upgrade, including the upgraded panels and associated infrastructure, without further unnecessary delays.
2. Provide a clear completion and commissioning date, with regular progress updates to affected residents.
3. Complete all outstanding testing and technical work to ensure the upgraded substation is fully operational.
The Morehill Substation upgrade is not just about Morehill. It is an important investment in the wider electricity network, with the potential to ease pressure on neighbouring substations and benefit surrounding communities.
We call on the City of Ekurhuleni, the City Manager, Executive Mayor, MMC for Energy and HOD for Energy to prioritise this upgrade and provide residents with a clear plan and timeframe for its completion.
We are asking the City to complete and commission the Morehill Substation upgrade now, before further strain on the electricity network results in more disruptions for our communities.
