PETITION TO THE CITY MANAGER OF EKURHULENI METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY AND GERMISTON ENERGY DEPARTMENT

We, the undersigned, residents and stakeholders of Germiston, within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, respectfully submit this petition to the City Manager of Ekurhuleni, with the request that immediate attention be given to the pressing need for preventative measures to safeguard and maintain the city's energy infrastructure within Germiston Energy Department.

The current state of energy infrastructure has become increasingly vulnerable to frequent power outages, system failures, and equipment malfunctions, which have severely impacted the daily lives, safety, and well-being of residents and businesses; It has been observed that the energy infrastructure, including power lines, transformers, substations, and related equipment, is aging and prone to breakdowns, thereby contributing to ongoing service interruptions and increased repair costs;

We, call upon the City Manager of Ekurhuleni and the Energy Department to take the following actions as a matter of urgency:

- Establishment of a Comprehensive Maintenance Program

- Implementation of Preventative Measures to Address Vandalism and Theft

- Public Awareness and Energy Efficiency Programs

- Development of Robust Emergency Response and Recovery Plans: We call for the creation and implementation of an effective emergency response framework that ensures rapid restoration of services during unexpected outages or failures and outlines clear communication protocols for informing the public of such events.

We, the undersigned, believe that these measures will not only help to prevent future energy crises but will also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the city's energy infrastructure. By acting proactively, we can enhance the reliability of power supply, reduce service disruptions, and improve the overall quality of life for all Germiston residents.
