#52 acknowledgement for babies born under 24wks

2014-03-27 15:35

Give the parents & family proof this baby was born & is a human. Is it monetary? Im sure parents would pay for administration costs to have proof & to b validated for giving birth like any woman gets after giving birth. I think 13wks onwards should b validated. & recorded in birth, deaths & marriages.

My daughter lily was born on 24th April 2009 at 21 weeks gestation and lived for about 90 minutes. She was born in scotland and we registered her birth and death. I think the law must be different in scotland because we had to register her. I am so very lucky that we got to do this as it meant at the time (and still means) that she existed. I wholeheartedly support your campaign and have signed your petition xxxx

My son Adam was stillborn at 26 weeks in 1992, at the time it was 28 weeks 'viability'. He has no birth/death certificate, only an in memmorium certificate. Surely it should be up to the parents IF they wish a formal acknowledgement of their child's existence?

My little girl was born asleep at 23 weeks. I had to give birth to her and I held her and mourn her just as I would if she had been born a week later. I think as mothers we deserve that recognition when it comes to maternity rights and our babies deserve the recognition, that they are our precious children. Additionally, the statistics need to be real, and if all our babies are being over looked how can research etc ever be valid?

I see women who are distraught in these situations, and just want recognition. They have had a physical bond with their babies and hormonal changes, so go through all the changes that a mother who has delivered at full term go through, but with nothing to hold. Recognition would go a long way for these women.

#65 Birth Certificates for all babies

2014-04-20 08:48

My son was born at 39 weeks, but because he was stillborn we don't have a birth certificate for him, only a death certificate. This really upset me as it felt like there was no acknowledgement of him being 'alive' although I had been pregnant for 9 months.... However when my daughter was born at 40 + 1 week we were given a birth certificate as she was 'alive' on a life support machine for 48 hrs. I think if a baby is born at any point of the pregnancy parents should get a birth certificate as the baby has been alive up until that point.

Losing a baby at any stage of pregnancy must be one of the worst experiences for parents Ever. Please do not prolong the agony for them.
