Flood Free Access to Yippin Creek

Currently the Yippin Creek Bridge is flooded in significant and not so significant storms, leaving the residents with no access to town.  Access is also flooded along Beechwood Road east and west of Yippin Creek Road locking the residents in.  In addition, the intersection at Glenview Dive and Beechwood Road is unsafe due to poor sightlines.

When Glenview Park Estate commenced, in 2013 and also in the earlier 2010 DA approval, the Beechwood Road bridge over Yippin Creek was marked to be upgraded by Council to provide a better access.  Priority for the construction of this bridge has now fallen off the long term strategy of Council and is unlikely to be constructed in the next decade.

If the cost of such a structure is prohibitive, funds need to be actively sourced from State and Federal Government to improve infrastructure to current and future residents.

Glenview Park residents have paid contributions to Council for local roads ($1,539,197), Beechwood Road Bridge upgrade ($174,951) and Glenview Drive intersection upgrade ($156,173) for a total over $1,870,000.  This money needs to be used to engage a consultant to provide advice on the best and cheapest method to provide flood free access.  The design of this access needs to be completed and costed to allow solid grant applications to be presented to the different levels of Government. Doing nothing just delays the solution further.

By supporting this petition to Port Macquarie Hastings Council you:

  1. Agree that a flood free access is desperately needed to the Yippin Creek area.
  2. Agree that contributions already paid need to be used to plan, design and cost an appropriate access.
  3. Agree that Council should campaign different levels of Government to provide grants for the required infrastructure.
  4. Agree that Council make this a high priority and introduce this item onto Council Meeting Agenda's to provide six monthly updates of progress to residents.
