CBIT Campus Placements: A Collective Request for Fairness and Transparency

C CBIT Student · IN

Our Purpose

We, the concerned students of Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), Hyderabad, seek a fair, transparent, and merit-based campus placement process that provides equal opportunities to every eligible student.

Campus placements are crucial to our careers and futures. Every student invests considerable time and effort in preparing for recruitment assessments and interviews. Therefore, every eligible candidate deserves an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities without favoritism, unfair assistance, or conflicts of interest.

Our Concerns Regarding Placement Activities

We wish to bring attention to concerns regarding alleged unfair practices during placement drives conducted by companies such as Loyalty Juggernaut, Fluxon, Acuitas360, D. E. Shaw, Lloyds, Electronic Arts, and others.

There have been allegations that certain placement coordinators have assisted their friends and fellow placement coordinators in copying or engaging in other unfair practices during online assessments.

Placement coordinators are entrusted with the responsibility of facilitating placement activities and maintaining discipline. Their positions should not provide them or their friends with any unfair advantage over other candidates.

We would also like to clarify that this petition does not accuse all placement coordinators of misconduct. Many placement coordinators are genuine, responsible, and committed to performing their duties sincerely. Our concerns relate specifically to the alleged actions of certain individuals and the need for effective safeguards to protect the integrity of the placement process.

Previous Complaint and Recurrence of Concerns

We had previously brought these concerns to the attention of the Chief Placement Coordinator. During our discussion, he stated that he was not aware of the alleged incidents and assured us that placement coordinators would not be allowed to serve as invigilators in future placement activities.

However, despite raising these concerns and receiving this assurance, similar concerns have reportedly arisen again.

This recurrence has raised questions about the effectiveness of the existing measures and highlighted the need for clear written guidelines, impartial supervision, and consistent enforcement of placement rules.

We respectfully request that the college administration investigate the reported incidents objectively. Relevant CCTV footage from the TPO laboratories on the respective placement activity dates may be reviewed, subject to applicable college policies, to establish the facts.

Concerns Regarding Interview Panel Allocation

We also wish to raise concerns regarding the allocation of candidates to interview panels.

There have been allegations that candidates are asked about their preferences for particular panels and that some candidates may subsequently be directed to specific panels based on personal preferences or connections.

We request that these concerns be examined and that a transparent, consistent, and impartial procedure be established for allocating candidates to interview panels, preventing favoritism and ensuring equal treatment.

Our Requests to the College Administration

Through this petition, we respectfully request the college administration to implement the following measures in all future placement activities:

1. Faculty Members as Invigilators

Assign faculty members as invigilators during placement assessments across all departments to ensure impartial supervision and maintain the integrity of the assessment process.

2. No Placement Coordinators as Invigilators

Do not assign placement coordinators to invigilate assessments in which their fellow students participate. Faculty members should supervise these assessments to minimize conflicts of interest and maintain impartiality.

3. Strict Mobile Phone Restrictions

Enforce clear and uniform restrictions on mobile phones and other unauthorized electronic devices during assessments. The same rules should apply to everyone involved in the placement activity, with appropriate arrangements for secure storage.

4. Impartial Investigation of Reported Incidents

Investigate the reported concerns objectively, preserve and review relevant CCTV footage where available and permitted, and examine other credible evidence. Appropriate action should be taken if misconduct is established.

5. Transparent Interview Panel Allocation

Introduce a fair and consistent procedure for allocating candidates to interview panels, ensuring that personal relationships or connections do not influence the process.

6. Equal Opportunities for Every Eligible Candidate

Ensure that every eligible student is evaluated under the same rules and standards. Placement opportunities should be based on qualifications, performance, and eligibility rather than favoritism or unfair assistance.

7. Written Guidelines and Effective Monitoring

Implement written guidelines for invigilation, mobile phone restrictions, assessment supervision, and interview panel allocation. Ensure that these guidelines are communicated clearly and enforced consistently during every placement drive.

Why Your Support Matters

Our intention is not to target all placement coordinators or declare any individual guilty without evidence. We seek an impartial investigation, appropriate preventive measures, and a placement process that protects the interests of every eligible student.

If unfair practices occur without adequate safeguards, deserving candidates may be disadvantaged despite their preparation and hard work. Such incidents can undermine students' confidence in campus placements and affect the credibility of the institution's recruitment process.

By supporting this petition, you are supporting our request for a fair, transparent, impartial, and merit-based placement system at CBIT.

We intend to submit this collective representation, together with the support expressed by students, to the appropriate college authorities for consideration and necessary action.

Our Appeal

We respectfully request the Training and Placement Officer, the Director of Student Affairs & Progression, the Principal, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to consider these concerns and implement appropriate safeguards for future placement activities.

Every eligible student deserves an equal opportunity. Placement rules must apply equally to everyone, without favoritism or unfair advantages.

Let us work together to ensure that campus placements at CBIT remain fair, transparent, and based on merit.

Thank you for supporting equal opportunities for all students.
