Acquisition of the "Chez Gautier" lot by the city of Montréal

SUBJECT: Petition for the acquisition by the City of Montreal of the abandoned site of the former Chez Gautier restaurant for the development of community housing

WHEREAS the property located at 3487 Avenue du Parc, Montréal (QC) H2X 2H6, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, has remained vacant and unused since the closure of the restaurant Chez Gautier in 2012 [1], negatively affecting public safety and the quality of life in the neighborhood ;

WHEREAS Montreal is facing a housing crisis marked by low vacancy rates and a pressing need for community housing [2] [3] [4];

WHEREAS, currently much of the lot at 3487 Avenue du Parc consists of a paved parking lot, which contributes to the heat island effect and negatively impacts the health of residents during the summer months [5] ;

THEREFORE, WE, THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS AND CONCERNED CITIZENS OF MONTRÉAL, PETITION THE CITY TO:Acquire this property, either by expropriation under Articles 51 to 56 of the Loi sur la Société d’habitation du Québec, or by exercising its right of first refusal;Develop community housing on the site, in the form of housing cooperatives or nonprofit housing.
