Extension of ATV access to KP trail south from Verona to Harrowsmith

County vote

As expected Frontenac County Council did not approve our application for ATV access to the KP trail south of Verona to Harrowsmith. This result is most disappointing considering the overwhelming support the idea received from over 1000 interested people. There was no recorded vote that I can find so it is hard to tell if the motion had any, a little or a lot of support.

North Frontenac mayor Gerry Lichty has proposed a 'Loop' that would connect Sharbot Lake south to Harrowsmith, east to Smith Falls, north to Renfrew and back to SL. What a wonderful two or three day ride that would be! The idea is a longshot seeing that the Cataraqui trail does not allow ATVs.

I have resigned as President of the Verona club. The very able Jim Knapp is now president. Jim will send his contact information to members of the now Frontenac ATV Club.

Frontenac County meeting

December 13 the Frontenac County board is meeting. Our request for the extension of ATV use to Harrowsmith on the KP is on the agenda. Please contact your local township Ray Leonard and Ron Vandewal to voice your support for this motion.

Folks we do not have the political support we need to get this request approved. We do have overwhelming community and business support. Why that support is not enough I do not understand.

Ray Leonard has been very supportive. Rob Vandewal has not. Please call your local South Frontenac councillor and Mayor Vandewal and tell them your support for the trail extension to Harrowsmith.

Committee meeting

July 5 Wednesday is the Economic Development committee meeting where our request for access to the KP through to Harrowsmith will be discussed. Please make sure your representative on council knows you support this request.

ATV access to KP trail south of Verona to Harrowsmith

The Verona District ATV club will be making a proposal to Frontenac County in April for use of the trail from Verona to Harrowsmith. This access will extend our trails for the enjoyment of ATV riders and bring business (gas, food, etc) to Harrowsmith and Verona.

Our petitions will include as many as 1000 names from the local area supporting this use. Our presentation will include a strategy for dust control where the trail is located close to homes. The club will also extend its warden program to Harrowsmith in order to promote sfae atv riding. Please have your friends and family sign the petition if they live close to Harrowsmith Verona and are in support of increasing atv traffic to this area.
