Just to let everyone know again, we have a successful result from our petition with the LSS upgrade introduction and also being a FREE upgrade available to all owners from the "new" DMAX vehciles released Sept 2020!

UPDATE: The word is that MANUAL vechiles are now able to be upgraded immediately after considerbale wait too, so if you were waiting on this for your manual DMAX get on board.

Please everyone pass this around through any means to current owners via any means necessary. This is NOT something IUA will be advertising or offering up and is by request only, so people who are not part of this petition of over select social media pages will be unaware. Below is the official response from IUA and information if there are any issues with dealers.

22MY D-MAX models feature a new Lane Support System (LSS) Switch, located on the steering wheel. To assist current owners of 21MY D-MAX and MU-X models, the Lane Support System Switch functionality can be retrospectively applied to existing models upon request and is at no cost to the customer. For more information please contact your local authorised Isuzu UTE Dealer.  In the event that an authorised Dealer is unable to resolve a customer enquiry, the Customer Relations Team can be contacted Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (EST) on 1300 147 898 or https://www.isuzuute.com.au/about/contact-us

Questions and issues

2021-12-07 07:28:19

Hi everyone. Just doing an update as I've had a number of people asking questions re manual cars, having issues with dealers not knowing about the update, confusing it with other updates, not knowing what it does and also dealers wanting to charge for it and also requesting contact details for people at IUA.

To answer some of these I contacted IUA and they have issued a brief statement with information to contact them if there's any issues with dealers and getting this update done and they will sort it out with the specific dealer in question. It is also 100% free for customers. Their statement is below as well as the details you will need. Rest assured they will sort this out if you have any issues at all. There's wildly varying information coming back from owners interactions with dealers so be polite, show them the IUA release from here, mention to look for their service bulletin sent out from their head office on 29/11/21 and that it's the "LSS" button update. You will need to book this in as there's a backend they need to do before the vehicle arrives to get done. If you have any difficulties or anything that's outside of what has been said here, contact IUA from the below details to sort and they've reassured me they will.

To answer other enquiries...I can't get a specific timeframe for manual vehicles yet and I have heard reports that it'll be early next year (not officially though, just through owners feedback on social media from their interactions with dealers so take that as you will), and I havn't been given a date currently from IUA, I'll keep in touch with them for updates on manual vehicles and post here when I hear.

I wont pass on any details and contacts for people at IUA either as that would breach a level of trust and mutual respect we have garnered so please use the contact information they have provided below if you want to reach out to them.

As a side note, got mine done last week and along with the previous update that smoothed the responses from the system I'm absolutely loving the car. The vast majority of time I leave everything on and as it's been "smoothed" it performs vastly better...and twice now I have used the LSS button while driving when road conditions changed suddenly and it made the vehicle safer for everyone...happy days!

IUA statement:

In the event that an authorised Dealer is unable to resolve a customer enquiry, the Customer Relations Team can be contacted Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (EST) on 1300 147 898 or https://www.isuzuute.com.au/about/contact-us

RESULT! Official IUA IDAS system announcement

2021-11-26 06:22:15

It gives me great joy after considerable time and after discussions with IUA, i can officially announce here that they have listened, taken on our feedback and concerns...and we have the result we have been seeking. As a direct result of our petition with over 750 signatures, it gave IUA enough numbers to take to head office in Japan to take on board the information and introduce the LSS system in the new MY22 model AND also that this WILL be a software upgrade for existing customers of the MY21 model, available immediately from all dealerships nationwide on request.

The LSS system responds in the MY21 models exactly as advertised for the MY22 models and will simply require a long press of an existing button on the steering wheel at any time while driving and will deactivate all the features we have been asking for in the IDAS system to make towing and driving in changing road condtions safer for everyone. The IDAS system will reatcivate features everytime the vehicle starts of course, but a simple one push of a button and theyre deactivated. Please read the offical notice exclusivley to us from IUA and to which i can now release publicly below.

It's been a long process and at times a frustrating process i must say thank you to everyone who signed onto this petition as it's because of us this feature has been introduced to us, the owners. The biggest thanks certinaly must go to IUA as they have listened, responded and in the end have delivered exactly what we, the customers, have asked for. I will be the first to stand up and doubt we would get anywhere and that it would likely fall on deaf ears, but i couldnt be happier to be proved wrong. IUA have been excellent with their communications on the matter...they have kept me updated through the process and shown a complete respect and consideration for it's customers...certainly something i doubt many other manufactures would do. They stressed to me that it's been an involved process and with such a new vehicle that customer feedback like ours, in the numbers we put in, is how things happen and changes get done. For me personally, i couldnt be happier with not only my mighty XT, but knowing that IUA are not just another manufactuer selling and forgetting, but are listening and implementing that feedback and for that im so bloody happy to be an Isuzu owner!

Again...thanks everyone for getting on board, and a big BIG thanks to IUA!

Customer feedback is of the utmost importance to IUA and we genuinely thank you for taking the time to speak with us earlier this month. As we discussed Isuzu is confident the product works as it was designed to do. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been rigorously tested and proven safe, backed up by the achievement of our 5 Star ANCAP Rating. With that said, as a result of market feedback which called for more convenience, all 22MY D-MAX models feature a new Lane Support System (LSS) Switch, located on the steering wheel. This allows the driver to toggle Lane Support Systems such as Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) on-or-off, by pressing and holding the switch for two seconds. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) will still function regardless if the LKAS is disabled via the switch. To assist current owners of 21MY D-MAX and MU-X models, the Lane Support System Switch functionality can be retrospectively applied to existing models upon request and is at no cost to the customer. For more information please contact your local authorised Isuzu UTE Dealer.

Isuzu response

2021-11-09 01:46:30

Hi everyone, Finally Isuzu Ute Australia have responded to the petition. It of course doesnt answer directly trhe concerns of safety and if anything will actually happen, just the standard company line of "feedback will be forwarded on for the future" so no real substance unfortunately. They have said a software upgarde (non reversable) is available from dealers to dumb down system, but no word on if they will actually implement whats asked for.

Cosiderations for the next step have to be discussed and proposed through feedback to this petition as without a clear answer from Isuzu, the safety issue will still be current as they have not addressed the underlying issue enabling functions to be turned off while driving. Clearly this is the objective to have a button or function simialr to many other manufactuers that see this saefty concern and have implemented one touch functions on steering wheels and columns to turn off driving assist features.

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts before proceeding to next stages of discussion with Isuzu, making more public to mainstream media outlets of the issue and it'd dangers, and of course to the relevant national authorities to escalate the concern and reach an outcome for owners and drivers that would resolve the issue promptly...as clearly their response has not reached the ideal outcome.

Please find their response copied and pasted below.

Lane Departure Prevention1.       The MY21 D-MAX incorporates several class leading active and passive safety features into the Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS), which is Isuzu’s overarching safety brand. A key part of IDAS, is the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), centered around the front mounted Stereo Camera and rear mounted short range radar system. One feature of the ADAS system is the Lane Departure Prevention system (LDP) which determines possible unintentional vehicle departure from its lane based on the lane position information as recognised by the Stereo Camera. Utilising the electric steering, it assists the driver in steering the vehicle back to its designated path. IDAS is neither intended nor designed to be a fully Autonomous driving system, it has certain limitations as outlined in the Owner’s and Driver’s Manual. Although, it is an aid to safer driving, it will not be able to cater for every scenario encountered on the road and the Driver must constantly maintain full control of the vehicle. The sensitivities of certain features can be adjusted via the Multifunction Information Display (MID) as outlined in the Owner’s and Driver’s Manual to suit individual driving style and/or preferences.   Although the LDP system has been evaluated and determined to be operating correctly and functioning as designed, the sensation of a driver aid interaction independently between the vehicle and driver is purely down to personal preferences and perception, some drivers prefer the current feeling, others do not. A study of Customer feedback from the market has led to Isuzu creating a revised firmware for the Stereo Camera resulting in a less positive interaction during LDP operation. It is important to note that this change cannot be reversed so we encourage you to liaise with your local Isuzu UTE Dealer to determine if applying this change is the right decision for you.

Lane Keep Assist & IDAS – one button ‘off’ switch2.       IUA genuinely appreciates your feedback and it has been forwarded on to the factory accordingly for their consideration in future planning for potential implementation, model changes and or upgrades to the current product. In the event that any update and/or change is forthcoming this information will be conveyed via the appropriate channels at that time – whether that be via the Isuzu Dealer Network, our corporate website or mainstream media.

Australian Design Rules3.       Isuzu Motors have confirmed that all D-MAX and MU-X vehicles sold by Isuzu UTE Australia are compliant with all Australian Design Rule (ADR) conditions and of most importance to you is the vehicles compliance with the ADR90/00 clause 5.1.6.1. Regarding ADR90/00, as defined in the ADR, an “Advanced Driver Assistance Steering System" means a system, additional to the main steering system, that provides assistance to the driver in steering the vehicle but in which the driver remains at all times in primary control of the vehicle. It comprises one or both of the following functions: "Automatically commanded steering function (ACSF)" and/or "Corrective Steering Function (CSF)", within the ADR there are details regarding the requirements of the override function for the CSF, basically it means that at any time and by deliberate action, the driver can override the CSF function by applying an effort of less than 5Kg to the steering wheel. We kindly confirm that yes, the vehicle complies with the condition regarding the requirements to override the function of CSF stated and that the effort required to override the function of CSF is less than 50N (5Kg) as specified Annex 8.3.1.2 “Overriding Force Test”.

10th October update

2021-10-05 08:47:11

The petition has now officially been lodged with Isuzu Ute Australia and is now undergoing review and I have been assured an offical response will be offered in course after review by Isuzu Ute Australia and at Isuzu main headquarters overseas.
I spoke personally to the customer relations manager at Isuzu Ute Australia and she was very responsive, helpful and receptive to the issue at hand and while could not give an official reply herself I'm left feeling confident that Isuzu may actually listen to our concerns and be receptive to resolving it in some form, after all 750 owners from merely a few Facebook posts is rather significant of the issue and one could only imagine the signatures if we could approach all owners.

Anyway, fingers crossed we get an offical response with a positive outcome for customers to address our safety concerns.

Update

2021-09-26 22:22:06

Hi everyone, again I've been away for quite a while with work and finally getting back to this. Today I have a phone call lined up with Isuzu to present the petition and helpfully have some feedback from them, or at least an indication. 738 signatures isn't too bad from posting on a couple of FB pages, just imagine the response if we could get this to all owners! Anyway, we'll see how it unfolds today and if there's anything Isuzu can add to the discussion and will of course let everyone know.

Another big posh before lodging!

Hey everyone, let's all have one more push with this and try to get numbers near 1000. On Facebook we'll only be reaching a fraction of owners, but let's spread this wherever needed, get to 1000 and then I'll submit to Isuzu Ute Australia!
