Success! Moreland Council includes 'new coal' filter in Procurement Policy

2020-06-10 13:35:57

Success tonight (10 June, 2020) on StopAdani. Moreland Council, in its annual review of Council Procurement Policy, passed an amendment to the Council Officer resolution as a part of the social sustainability criteria.

The amendment put forward by Cr Sue Bolton adds:
"Excluding from future contracts, tenders or business dealings any companies involved in developing new coal mines."

It was acceptable to both the mover and seconder, but the amendment was still voted on.
For: Cr Carli-Hannan, Cr Abboud, Cr Bolton, Cr Dorney, Cr Yildiz, Cr Riley, Cr Martin.
Against: Cr Tapinos, Cr Davidson, Cr Irfanli, Cr Kavanagh.
Carried.

The amendment was then incorporated in the substantive motion:
That Council adopts the Procurement Policy 2020-21, at Attachment 1 to this report.
Carried Unanimously

Stop Adani Moreland and Climate Action Moreland collected over 1000 signatures for this to happen this year (most of them on paper). Moreland Council responded.

We thank especially everyone who signed the petition. We were successful!

John Englart, Climate Action Moreland / Stop Adani Moreland
