Unfair Parking Restrictions Are Hurting Local Businesses — Help Us Make a Change!

A Adam Harris · NZ

Have you received a $95 parking charge after visiting Café Hibiscus or one of the neighbouring shops?

Join us in calling for fairer parking conditions for Café Hibiscus, Kaya Thai Massage, the surrounding shops and, importantly, their customers!

Over the past year, a strict 60-minute parking limit has been introduced at this shopping complex by a third-party parking company, with the approval of the Body Corporate.

These restrictions are having a significant impact on local businesses, with some experiencing a substantial decline in customers. This is not what we want for our local business owners!

While customers can extend their parking time by entering their vehicle registration into a tablet inside the premises, many are unaware of this requirement or simply forget, leaving them facing an unexpected $95 parking charge.

Café Hibiscus regularly receives feedback from former customers who say they no longer visit because of the hassle and risk associated with parking. At a time when hospitality businesses are already facing enormous financial pressures, this is particularly concerning.

Looking at other cafés around Whangaparāoa, many offer up to 180 minutes of parking before customers need to register for an extension. So why is this small shopping complex restricted to just 60 minutes?

Whether you're a regular customer or simply someone who believes in supporting local businesses, we invite you to stand with us. Our local business owners are working incredibly hard in a challenging economy, and they deserve parking arrangements that encourage customers to visit, not drive them away.

What are we asking for?

I will be presenting this petition, requesting that the standard parking limit be increased from 60 minutes to 180 minutes before any additional registration is required, bringing it into line with other local café parking areas.

After all, parking should support local businesses, not drive their customers away.

If you agree that the current restrictions are unreasonable, please add your name to this petition and help us make a difference!  If this parking situation has impacted you or put you off visiting, please comment on this also so we can provide actual cases with our submission.

Please also share this petition with others in our community. Together, we can make our voices heard.

(Note: Email addresses are requested for verification purposes and will not be used for third Party purposes.  Names & Comments will be provided to the Body Corporate when the petition is presented to evidence our request)
