We are asking the Paarl Magistrate Court to refuse bail on 7 August 2026 in the case of Tersius Tazz Grain. A son, brother, husband, friend, and, most importantly, a father was killed in front of his children, and that trauma cannot be undone by words or time.
This is not only a legal matter; it is a family crisis. The children already lost their mother a few years ago, when they were still very little, and now they have also had to face the loss of their father. They should not have to carry the added fear that the person connected to this case could walk free before the court has fully dealt with the harm done.
The safety and stability of those children must come first. If bail is granted, it may deepen their fear, make healing harder, and send the wrong message about how seriously this kind of violence is treated. If the court refuses bail, it will help protect the children, give the family some measure of security, and show that the court understands the seriousness of what happened.
I am not speaking about this only as a member of the public. Tersius was more than a close friend to me; he was like a brother. We grew up together, and I saw how hard he worked to give his children a decent life. He was trying to protect them, and they should not now be left exposed to further pain or uncertainty because of a bail decision.
We therefore ask the Paarl Magistrate Court to keep the accused in custody and deny bail at the hearing on 7 August 2026. The court should place the children’s safety, the seriousness of the facts before it, and the need for accountability above any rush to release.
