Petition, demanding referendum to decide on congestion charge for Cambridge

We should not have to pay to visit Addenbrooks Hospital. It would cost drivers £100 a month just to go to work. Another tax on motorists totally unfair. Like Cambridge parking fees the £5.00 levy would soon increase above this.

This is an issue I feel very strongly about.
It will effect so many people and thils cannot be allowed to happen.
No consultations we need a vote.
We are having problems with bus issues now. It will not improve things

Sheila Potter (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

this is an unworkable and ridiculous idea that will kill Cambridge businesses at a time when it should be being encouraged

Jackie Holmes (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#617

It's a terrible idea

Stupidity to allow so many homes built in small city. Would obviously lead to congestion then gridlock. Congestion charge would mean we would be unable to take grandchildren to swim clubs, gymnastics and tennis. All activities will be cancelled.

This is an absolutely ridiculous suggestion. It's a money making scam and made to make our lives ever so difficult. The council are strangling roads and giving out planning permission for new developments. Afterwards, ofc you will get congestion. I can't function and jump on 3 or 4 buses everyday to do simple tasks. You are taking away our freedom and convenience only to make our lives more difficult and stressful.

Shabaz Aslam (Cambridge, 2022-10-06)

I live in city yes, charge out of city charge but why should residents have to pay? I only use car for pleasure not work but need for weekend in the summer

I work in Cambridge in an adult learning establishment which is based in a community college. If this charge is introduced, I have no doubt this service will be redundant.
Cambridge isn't just full of students and wealth; there are areas of deprivation, and these people need public services close to them. Introduce the charge and lose these invaluable services.

The congestion charge will devastate the city centre and cause unnecessary hardship

This Chargé seems to be an extra tax for me as a resident in Cambridge with a big family.

I’m signing this because Stagecoach are hell bent on removing my bus service which allowed me to get work for 6.30am, hassle free, that anyone that may takeover possibly won’t fulfill and the GCP busway cuts my village stop from 4 to 1/2. Where is the incentive to not have to rely on my private vehicle to get to work on time when I was already able to do that by giving up that vehicle to use the bus service. No Service, No Congestion Charge.

Jason Lunt (Hardwick, 2022-10-06)

#662

Stagecoach are stopping the bus service in Hardwick leaving myself and my family with no other option but to drive into Cambridge to work and shop

I don’t agree with a congestion charge

Mick Clemence (Cambridge, 2022-10-06)

#665

This is totally ridiculous, I’m a self employed decorator how am I supposed to support myself with the current financial situation and now an added bill on top. How do you think I’ll carry tools/ladders etc on a bus which you all want us to use. People will simply shop elsewhere and drive businesses out of town

Dan Terry (Cambridge , 2022-10-06)

#667

I travel into Cambridge for work and to visit and help my mother who is registered blind.

Tara Rose (Cambridge , 2022-10-06)

I applaud the congestion zone idea but it mustn’t punish the local population. Make some exceptions - why not push the agenda and let EVs go free which is logical. The zone includes those on low pay they should not suffer more hardship

Christina Green (Cambridge, 2022-10-06)

#675

People of Cambridge should not be made to pay. The boundaries of the congestion charge should be reviewed as Addenbrookes patients shouldn't have to suffer.

Sarah Whitehead (Cambridge, 2022-10-07)

#677

I strongly disagree will the congestion charge.

You are attempting to price out and create division between socioeconomic status. This is dirty politics and I hope you all suffer for it.

Carter Smith (Ely, 2022-10-07)

This an unfair and punitive tax applied without the consent of the affected population

I come into Cambridge on a regular badis in my car

Toni van Voorst (St Neots, 2022-10-08)

#694

This is over kill - not a good way forward for city residents who need cars for disabled elderly young kids getting to work and back - already pay residents parking fee.
Do not drive residents out of the city centre - best way to kill a city!

Tamsin Palmer (Cambridge, 2022-10-08)

#698

The charge will penalise so many organisations like churches, charities and health clubs as well as supermarkets and charitable events.

Elizabeth Hodder (Cambridge, 2022-10-08)

#700

It’s totally wrong. If you are in need of money off the Cambridge resident.start taxing and charging cyclists. That way you will gain more money

I’m disabled with 2 disabled children and access to schools and hospitals is essential.
I’ve lived in Cambridge all my life and the traffic situation has been made worse and worse by ridiculous reduction of access routes.
Cars can not be un-invented. Not everyone can ride a bike everywhere. Elderly, and disabled people deserve access too.

Wauthier Pippa (Cambridge, 2022-10-08)
