Petition, demanding referendum to decide on congestion charge for Cambridge

We are in a huge crisis! We don't have extra money to pay this unthought out very terrible charge!

Laura Price (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#404

Vital changes to commute routes are needed as well as better bus services before a charge can be brought into consideration. The way things are at the moment this seems to be a money making scheme that will hit those who are most in need.
I oppose it.

Rana El Jammal (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#408

This is a ridiculous charge for a small city like Cambridge. We dont need it

Gary Hollis (cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#411

This congestion charge does not make any sense.

Veruska Marques (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

Its greedy and we can't afford it .My family will not be going into Cambrigde City if we are Charged.

The congestion charge is unfair and unworkable.

I live out in Swaffham Prior and a lot of people rely on these buses to get around without owning a car, and we have no shops

Frances Bonner (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#428

I'm a pensioner with multiple health issues. This means I have to avoid public transport because of Covid, and I rely upon my small eco-friendly car for everything. I can't afford £5/day every time I go out.

Philip Barnes (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#431

I can hardly afford to pay my monthly car payments due to the living crisis so it’ll affect me massively to have to pay an extra £100 a month just to drive into Cambridge!

Ben Reay (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

#432

I think there needs to be a referendum on such major change to the lives of all residents of cambridge and surrounding villages

Judy Davis (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#436

I suspect the congestion charge will result in Cambridge centre becoming a ghost town, which would be sad to see, having lived here all my 60 + years.

Rodney Wythe (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#440

I don’t agree with the charge

Samantha Onwukwe (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

Signing specifically because of the disgusting way in which Vinery Road (and I now discover, other roads in Cambridge) have suddenly been closed off without any consultation with local people directly affected. In the Vinery Road case, where you have limited free-flowing traffic which is not causing a problem for anybody, this traffic is now being forced to make a circuitious route onto specific roads other schemes force all the traffic onto. The only possible reason that the Cambridgeshire County Council are making decisions like this which is unnecessarily adding additional traffic to some specific roads is to cause congestion, and so therefore to make the case for a congestion charge look stronger. This is so cynical it is almost beyond belief. There has been no 'consultation' on this at all with the ordinary people of Cambridge, as far as I can tell it has just been cooked up by a few fanatical local councillors and a select grouping of their followers.

Pete Rumbles (CAMBRIDGE, 2022-10-03)

#457

I believe the scheme is ill-thought out and detrimental to businesses, people living within the proposed area, and local villages and villagers struggling to find public transport to the city centre.

Paul Andrews (Coton , Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#461

It will isolate my parents who live in the middle of Cambridge even further.

Joe Austin (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

#463

This will severely impact on the pockets of so many people who can ill afford the charge and would be put under greater financial hardship than they're already in

Ian Harvey (CAMBRIDGE, 2022-10-03)

#471

I object to the congestion charge.

M Thomson (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#479

The council have shut lots of roads in cambridge to cause congestion to try and justify a congestion charge and try to make people pay as far out as cherry hinton who will have to pay even if they are not into the city centre

David Taylor (Cherry Hinton , 2022-10-03)

#480

I support to have the referendum to decide whether or not we should have congestion charges in cambridge.

Natu Pankhania (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

#485

I disagree with this congestion charge and it shouldn't be enforced!

George Ye (Milton Keynes , 2022-10-03)

#487

We have certain bus routes being scrapped and with a £5 charge doesn’t make any sense! I thought the charge was to stop people using their cars. So how can they get into town or hospital or school without a bus!

Pam Osborne (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

#488

Congestion charge will affect my life as a retired person in a time of hardship and economic crisis.

Maria Elena Villamil (CAMBRIDGE, 2022-10-03)

#494

Will cause Big financial impact

Ferdi Saron (Cambridge, 2022-10-03)

#501

Roads are already taxed. No more stealth tax and especially when it feeds the green tax profiteering.

Liz Day (Cambridge , 2022-10-03)

#503

I have lived in and around Cambridge City for the past 22 years and therefore understand the nature of the road network and the traffic levels. The impact of a congestion charge would I believe have a highly detrimental effect financially upon a vast number of residents and workers, both within and out with the city. The GCP are in effect going to penalise people who are unable to use bicycles or buses for various reasons including disabilities, age, lack of a suitable bus service etc. From what I have read I believe Addenbrookes medical campus will be within the CC zone. That really is "out of order"!
The foregoing is but a snapshot of my feelings about this emotive subject. Every citizen residing in Cambridgeshire should have the right to vote on this via a lawful referendum.

Peter McDonald (Fulbourn, Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#504

I run a small business that needs a vehicle! I do not believe a congestion charge is what is needed or wanted in Cambridge

Sedat Kantar (Cambridge , 2022-10-04)

#508

Promoting this congestion charge as "to pay for" or "to fund" a service is wishful thinking, it's a con. Remember the tow-away scheme, "to pay for" all sorts of things, cost more than it earned. And Tesco Newmarket Road will be thrilled that all their customers have had to pay £5 just to get there.

Peter Miller (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#514

Unaffordable with cost pf living and stagecoach buses history of irregular services cambridge will no longer be technology hub

Ramya Sri Murugesan (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#518

We are retired and will travel to our allotment by car as my husband can't walk that far or cycle. We will need to go between 7am and 7pm so each time we go there it will be £5, not fair.
Either residents should be exempt or just have times 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm if it happens

Brenda Wright (CAMBRIDGE, 2022-10-04)

#520

My son is a session drummer and the congestion charge will put him out of business

Gaynor Roberts (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#525

I could not afford this nonsense that has been artificially created by mis-timing the traffic lights!

Imtiaz Din (Cambridge , 2022-10-04)

#526

I'm signing because this is an ill-thought out scheme that does not take control of the bus services.

Jill Mann (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#529

Now is not a good time to extort money from local residents and business owners

Rachel Green (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#540

As if life wasnt difficult enough and expensive enough you want to impose yet another tax on the working poor! This will not impact the well off, they can afford it. It will make Cambridge driving for the elite only. I would have to make the decision to leave Cambridge as would many others as cycling or walking for my job is not an option. I often have items i need to deliver which i would not be able to do on foot or bike. My job and its terrible wage would no longer be workable or affordable.
There gas already been a succession of roads being closed off under the guise of lowering polution but all this does is increase polution elsewhere whilst keeping elite streets clean for the elite. Cambridge has become do restrictive elite and corrupt with its planning permissions for land grabbers and property developers, this is the final nail in the coffin. Do this and you will lose more nurses, support workers, carers, teachers, public sector workers as we exodus towards places we can afford to live and work. There is no empathy at the top from those of you making these ill thought decisions!

Susana Iglesias (Cambridge , 2022-10-04)

It's enough to rep off people

Huseyin Surensoy (Cambridge , 2022-10-04)

#542

While improved buses services are needed, congestion charge is an unfair tax way of rising the money needed.

C Skinner (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#546

No consideration for those who will be disproportionately affected by a Congestion Charge, low paid workers, health and social care workers, disabled people and the elderly. Newsflash: not all disabled people who have challenges with travel meet the high criteria for a Blue Badge.

Rachel James (Swavesey, Cambs, 2022-10-04)

#548

This is grossly uncalled for unless there is a metro system planned in from all villages around the clock. Lots of my employees and myself work a 4 to midnight shift and they travel from the surrounding villages including students and parents. This would cripple the local economy

Vivek Joseph (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#550

I feel a full referendum of residents in the Greater Cambridge Partnership area is needed to justify this charge.

David Poulter (Cambridge, 2022-10-04)

#552

I need to use my car for work and cannot afford £5 per day!

#567

I feel the hardship this will cause numerous families and businesses is excessive and particularly at this time when costs for everyone are escalating exponentially.

Roz Palmer (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#568

It is wrong to charge working people to travel from their home to work. You will drive business away from Cambridge and be unable to staff our hospitals and schools the City will no longer be a thriving vibrant place to live.

Jackie Muranyi (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#574

As a Cambridge City Resident reliant upon the daily use of my vehicle, I do not feel it’s fair for me to pay £5 everyday to fund someone else’s Bus Fare

Neil McArthur (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#575

Grossly unfair another tax o top of road tax

Kieron Mcneela (Cambridge , 2022-10-05)

#578

This is ridiculous and do not let them do this to Cambridge

Paul Moussi (Cambridge , 2022-10-05)

#581

I live and work in Cambridge
And I do not want a charge.
I can not afford it.

Stephen Bradley (Cambridge , 2022-10-05)

#582

Only Cambridgeshire County Council has the power to impose the Cambridge Congestion Charge; it has no political mandate to do so. If it is minded to go ahead with it, it is absolutely right that they give the decision to the people of Cambridgeshire through a county wide referendum. Anna Bailey, Leader of East Cambs District Council.

Anna Bailey (Ely, Cambs, 2022-10-05)

#589

A referendum is the only fair way.

Irene Wilkes (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#593

There should be a proper free and democratic process to determine whether this move to penalize the free movement of citizens within the city of Cambridge has the support of the majority of people.

Anne Page (Cambridge, 2022-10-05)

#597

I do not believe that the consultation results reflect the views of all the people who will be affected by this measure. Nor do I believe the GCP want people to know how they can participate.

Rosalie Orriss (Girton, 2022-10-05)

#598

The plan is poorly thought out.
