STOP🤚 speeding traffic through Hazlerigg Village. NE13.

I am a resident of Hazlerigg village and agree that extra sanctions must be put in place to deter motorists from speeding through the village. Many totally disregard or don't even notice the speed signs, resulting in dangerous driving. Many near misses with pedestrians have occurred and the fear is that one day there will be a very bad accident or fatality.

Someone will be killed by the way people speed through the village

I live in the village and take my life in my hands every day. I cannot get out my street as there as so many parked cars and when the traffic is travelling at 60mhp yes you heard right 60 not 20, if they travelled at 20 I could get out. Someone is going to die if you do not do something about this.

I am signing this because i live in hazlerigg and the speading is really bad, i live here with ny 2 kids and would Hate to think anything would happen from people speading and being careless drivers even were the zebra crossing is

I'm signing this because it needs addressing before lives are lost

I worry about all the children in the village. As sometimes drivers go through the village at stupid speeds and it could easily cause a fatality if anybody was to go out in front of one of the speeding cars.

Johny Webster (Newcastle-upon-Tyne , 2022-09-09)

#27

No measures so far have been able to deter traffic from speeding through Hazlerigg. Even the zebra crossing isn't safe.

I’m often in Hazlerigg and have witnessed cars travelling at excessive speeds through the village. Also, my daughter was hit by a car while crossing the road to visit the shop.

I am a concerned local resident with a young child.

I’m fed up of being overtaken by other vehicles whilst driving at the speed limit, and all the vehicles doing 30-40 mph or higher through the village.

Kevin Warner (Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2022-09-09)

Nearly been run over on the crossing

We live on the main road and the amount of traffic that ignores the speed limit in this small village where children and people walk across this road is getting very dangerous
Something needs to be done before someone gets killed

Sylvia Hawdon (Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2022-09-10)

Speeding through Hazlerigg has become the normal. People completely disregard the speed limit. There is no will from the local authorities or police to enforce the speed limit. There are no traffic calming measures along the main road through the village. Something needs to be done before someone gets killed. Speeding is having an impact on the health and well being of any one who lives along or uses this road.

Paul Young (Newcastle-upon-Tyne , 2022-09-10)

Speeding in the 20mph zone and the improper speed signage outside Havannah park it’s 60mph and should be 30mph

Don Mclean (Hazlerigg Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-09-10)

#46

I’m signing because the speeding through the village is unbelievably dangerous. The road is a main crossing for many local children getting to school, even the zebra crossing doesn’t give a safe place to cross, it’s one a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or worse.

I live in Hazlerigg and the speeding through the village is an absolute joke!

Living on Coach Lane I can vouch for the excessive speed of the traffic at all times of the day and night. It’s not just cars, it is buses and heavy goods vehicles. The speed bumps have in many ways made it worse as traffic speeds up to get between the bumps before anything comes the other way. The HGVs that speed over the bumps actually make our windows vibrate. When the occasional vehicle tries to stick to the 20mph limit they are frequently overtaken or have the following vehicle aggressively driving right up behind them. I have been told by the council that until there is a serious accident there isn’t a problem. So we wait until someone is killed or badly injured?

the sspeed people go is radicalised

Julie Osborne (Newcastle, 2022-09-10)

#56

The majority of traffic at the top end of coach lane from the one stop up to the community centre travels way over 30mph and now race down the middle of the road to drive between the speed humps, which were a complete waste of time and money. Will it take a serious accident before anyone will do anything about it? Put speed cameras all the way down the road!

Justine Conway (Newcastle Upon Tyne , 2022-09-10)

I live in the village & the speeds of some drivers is ridiculous & extremely dangerous! There's not just cars that speed through the village but buses, lorries, motorbikes. If nothing is done there is either going to be a nasty accident or a fatality.

Karen Herrera (Newcastle upon Tyne, 2022-09-10)

The speeding is consistent and repeated.

I live next to one stop shop and the traffic is horrendous and something must be done! I myself has been knocked over on this road as well as a few other local people I know as well as children. Just the other week I was at the Zebra crossing and a work van stopped (albeit at the last moment) so I started to walk over with my dog and some idiot going the opposite direction didn't stop! I was almost halfway across and I was in complete disbelief. I was shaking with the whole ordeal. I also see lorries going so fast late at night easily over 40 mph, so how could they stop in time for anything? And through the day I've seen cars racing motorbikes going at ridiculous speeds. Speed cameras are needed to stop this, the crossing doesn't seem to do much, someone will be killed soon. And many pet's have been killed on that road including my cat and I think it's disgusting and disgraceful that neither Newcastle or North Tyneside councils aren't doing anything about this. Why do we pay council tax for? Well listen to the people in the community. Regards

My son is blind plus a guide dog user and is scared to walk around the village and cross the roads due to idiots speeding and parking on down curbs.

Kathleen Gray (Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2022-09-11)

The speed bumps are no deterrent. Cara do not obey the 29mpg limit

Margaret Ledgerwood (Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-09-11)

#69

I live in the village on the main road.I am a car driver and their is cars and motorbikes that speed through the village at twice the speed allowed at all hours and they don’t stop at the zebra crossing and it will take for someone to be hit before it’s sorted .

Amanda Logan (Newcastle , 2022-09-11)

#72

A sensible speed limit helps prevent accidents. Despite speed bumps and a pelican crossing vehicles do not see these as a reason to curb their speed or stop to allow pedestrians to cross.

Sheila Barbour (Newcastle Upon Tyne , 2022-09-12)

#73

Far too many vehicles drive too fast through our village. It's dangerous & there's no need for it. Quite a few children have been knocked over!

Dorothy Morrison (Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-09-12)

This lovely village has a lot of children and elderly people. Crossing the road to go to the shop is so dangerous because cars are speeding and there is a high volume of traffic.

Jean Ellen (Newcastle upon tyne, 2022-09-12)

#77

A lot of the traffic coming through the village show no consideration by speeding and ignoring the crossing. Safe viewing of the road ahead is often blocked by parked cars and there are a lot of elderly people and children here at risk. I myself fell on the road and couldn't get up straight away without help. knowing that speeding is commonplace here I was extremely frightened at the prospect of being hit. Please remedy it with speed barriers or something before someone is fatally injured.

I live in Hazelrigg & have children that are at risk of getting knocked over every day going to and from school because of the speeding that is happening in this village. Something needs to be done before there is a fatality

I live in hazlerigg and the speed that drivers go through this village is unsafe for the children around also the new built houses have increased the traffic going through at high speed

Carla Dupree (Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-09-30)

My children live and play in the village. The speed some vehicles travel through is in excess of 60mph

Richard Wilson (Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-09-30)

The speeding in Hazlerigg is terrible, not just cars, wagons and motorbikes. I am very concerned about the safety of all pedestrians. Its an accident waiting to happen.

I live on Lola Street my children go play in the park across the road and I am very worried for them as so many cars, buses, tractors etc go through the village with no consideration for speed limits. As a driver myself I frequently see very impatient drivers behind me who resent having to stick to the 20 mph limit!

Sophie Talbot (Hazlerigg, 2022-09-30)

I'm signing because the traffic speeds are absolutely ridiculous coming through hazlerigg, there is no consideration for the safety of others it's a disgrace, this is not just cars it's also huge lorrys speeding aswell as motorcycles.

The speed with which cars and lorries go through the village is shocking. Is it going to take a major accident or someones death to make a difference.

I live in the village and am disabled - trying to cross Coach Lane is sometimes very dangerous for me and obviously others but if traffic was restricted to 20mph it would not be a problem

#136

It's only a matter of time before there is a serious accident due to vehicles speeding through the village.

Tracey Gibson (Newcastle upon Tyne , 2022-10-30)

#138

Speeding is a big problem in the local villages and is particularly dangerous to children, the elderly, pets and wildlife

Tracey Welch (Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2022-10-30)

#139

My children cross the road to get the school bus, unsupervised. Sometimes, to build independence, they go to the shops, again crossing road. Having the 20 mile an hour zone and appropriate measures offers that extra peace of mind regarding road safety.
Having been knocked over when younger, I feel a safe road environment and enforcing responsible driving is essential to the village and surrounding areas.

The planning department did not address the detrimental impact of additional traffic on existing local communities, when permitting this urban sprawl.
