The Norwegian Institute at Athens is undispensable for important research and
therefore to students of several nationalities as well.

I am signing this petition because I think that the importance of Ancient Greek history and culture, which provided the foundastion for our western civilization, can be best disseminated among people in Norway and around the world through a reserach Institute located in Greece.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens is doing fantastic, pioneering work. It is making enormously significant contributions to teaching, research and understanding about the culture of the Eastern Mediterranean. Please continue to support this important work by providing the necessary financial support.

As a curator in archeology, I sign this petition because we need all over the world that archeological institutes could keep on their missions. We need to know more about ancient times to understand present days and to protect the world of the threats it is facing right now : to improve our way of democracy, to welcome the migrants.
Long live to all the foreign institutes all over the world.

Classical studies is an important bulwark against barbarism, which is a real threat to Europe (as well as other parts of the world) at this time.

Our Nordic Institutes have a significance far beyond archaeology- as if archaeology shouldn´t suffice. I have been a student and post grad student in Athens (sia.gr) and know very well the incrediblly valuable importance of the Nordic institutes on so many intercultural levels, creating a meeting place that is unsurpassed. Save the Norwegian institute!

Norway is too distinguished a country not to have such a presence.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens is an important link between Norway and Greece, between our modern lives and the past and will in the future give a possibility of going back to the roots of our western civilization.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens is an essential link to the eastern Mediterranean for Norwegian researchers. At the same it demonstrates to the Greeks that Norway believes it is an important partner. Shutting down the Institute would end this cooperation, and relegate Norwegian scholars to a secondary position, having to rely on other foreign institutes in Athens for logistics and support. It will suggest to the Greeks that Norway is not a major center for scholarship. I am sure this is not a message that Norway wishes to send to Greece, or to the rest of the world.

The Norwegian Institute in Athens is a phantastic asset for the Norwegan cultural and scientific presence in Greece, a place where European Civilisation started first. It is at the same time a great chance for students of Ancient History and Archaeology to stay and learn at the heart of research. One should never give up such instruments in the interest of the international standing of Norway as a state of culture and research. It is many times more valuable and effective than an Embassy or a general cultural institute

I am signing because I used this institute when I was a young student, who had just finished her undergraduate degree at Sydney University. The Norwegian Insitute was very welcoming and helpful. The Institutes Abroad are all threatened and we should do all we can to save them.

Europe and the world need more education and research in the humanities, not less. Knowledge of history, including ancient history, imparts keys to democratic citizenship and governance. Are these to be lost due to a shortfall in funds?
