I think it is important for Norwegian thinkers to be present "where it all began". But I also think that things could be done to actualize the institutes presence as a connecting point from the past to present time. With easy "grips", this history and relevance to our time could be spread to non academic people. This was the key to success in ancient time, and is what the academic institutes as "aristocratic institutions" have to understand to develop in a direction that conforms to potential supporting Norwegian departements; that it has a great potential to the public society in Norway. This I believe. Call me! see: www.parrhesia.no

Mener det er viktig å bevare den klassiske arven fra Antikken. Spesielt i våre dager hvor det settes altfor lite pris på i vårt overfladiske kapitalistiske forbukersamfunn.

As a member of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens, I have benefitted on several occasions from the opportunity to stay at out hostel in Athens, conducting research and interacting with members of the other international schools, including the Norwegian School. The research of Norwegian scholars must continue to benefit from the same kind of interaction.

In an era of materialism and turmoil, centres like the NIA are cultural signposts of a future we all need to aspire. There is much potential in the Institute and it deserves to be given an option to become more inclusive and strengthen its placement in the international cultural landscape.

I believe the Norwegian Institute is a very serious resource in the hand of Norwegian students and researchers who work on archaeology and Classics, as well as one of the major centers for these and relevant disciplines in Athens.
