Band programs are important.

Music is something everyone needs in their life. It’s a way for students to express themselves and should be apart of the Wilkes community. Without a band football games will be silent. This program is an outlet for many and takes the stress off students when they have a way to distract themselves with it. It is a community and can make you feel more at home when at Wilkes and open doors to friends and many opportunities. I believe Wilkes University should embrace having a passion by keeping this program. I think it shows that Wilkes is talented beyond just academics and to me that is impressive.

There are no words. So much love and support for all of the musicians at Wilkes.

(Aberdeen, 2020-05-13)

I can't emphasize how important it is to keep this program around. I explained a lot in this post: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3110660035645732&set=a.282881515090279&type=3&theater

My daughter has loved band since her freshman year and has made lifelong friends because of the connection she has made with fellow members. Band helped her come out of her shell freshman year and made a huge difference in her college transition. It is her creative outlet. Please don't take this away from these kids. They work so hard and give so much of themselves.

(Lewisburg, 2020-05-13)

#224

It is vital to the area music education for there to be programs in higher ed to serve student's musical interests and needs.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

Music is so important to every aspect of life. It’s an outlet for students, it’s encouragement and it’s a much needed in all schools.

A friend of mine from PA has done marching band for as long as I can remember and she really enjoys it. I've never been one for marching band but I know it means a lot to her

(Newport, 2020-05-13)

#229

Because band literally got me through my 4 years of college, I met many of the people I consider to be my best friends, and also because the lack of respect for the arts in this decision reflects very poorly on the overall attitude Wilkes has for art in general.

(Plantsville, 2020-05-13)

#232

I am a cheerleader at Wilkes. As a cheerleader we NEED the band. This makes our game days SO much more enjoyable and complete.

(Annville, 2020-05-13)

#233

My daughter is a current member of the marching band and indoor guard. Band was a big reason she chose Wilkes. Music is a creative outlet that should be available to all students.

So many of my friends use this as a way to express their love for this school, and it has brought many happiness when things weren’t looking so bright

(Reading, 2020-05-13)

#246

We need to continue the tradition that marching bands allow students to build upon. All art forms are needed, respected, and appreciated.

(East Stroudsburg, 2020-05-13)

#247

Music is important! Don’t stop students out of an important creative, emotional, and intellectual outlet.

(Philadelphia, 2020-05-13)

I am an incoming freshman at Wilkes and my short glimpse of the marching band program has been an amazing one, full of talented, fun and loving individuals. Marching Band is not only an organization that allows students to express themselves musically, but to make memories, and most importantly long lasting friends, with like-minded people. Highschool marching band has given me this, and I would be saddened if the Marching Colonals at Wilkes University was discontinued. Thank you.

(East Stroudsburg, 2020-05-13)

#255

I believe everyone should have access to a musical program. I am a music performance major at UMass Amherst.

(York, 2020-05-13)

#256

Band is home for so many. Music major or not, the creative outlet is a necessity to many. It’s their yoga, their therapy, their self-care. The community within a band is unlike any other. It’s truly a community of its own which radiates school spirit. Myself along with countless others have discovered their purpose and found their way through band-I personally can’t imagine having that taken away from me.

(Dupont, 2020-05-13)

As a music ed. alumna and a long time member of the Willkes U. Civic Band, this organization not only is an excellent opportunity for students but also a dynamic outreach to the community. Its new director is fantastic and has great ideas for re-establishing the music ed. program to what it used to be - one of the best in the country.

(Shavertown, 2020-05-13)

#264

My son is a musician and performed in the Wilkes University Marching Band. It would ashame to see it go.

(Ringtown, 2020-05-13)

Wilkes prides herself on offering a well-rounded, liberal arts education. But you cannot offer a liberal arts education if you get rid of the arts.

(Carlisle, 2020-05-13)

#272

My former band student plays in this concert band. What a shame that the University is cutting the arts from so many dedicated students!

(Dingmans Ferry, 2020-05-13)

#273

marching band is such an important program. it strengthens leadership, helps create friendships, and so many more. it’s unfair for all of the members.

I’m signing because marching band was the best thing to ever happen to me and I want to continue my musical career during my time at Wilkes:)

I've played the violin since I was four years old. The arts matter.

(Forty Fort, 2020-05-13)

#293

I’m signing because every student deserves a chance to not only express themselves through school work or sports, but through music and the arts.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#294

The Wilkes Civic Band and Marching Colonels deserve to continue and have a place on campus at Wilkes University. Please keep Mark and the rest of the staff providing young adults at Wilkes the opportunity to express themselves as an ensemble through performance in the marching band and Civic Band.

(Ashley, 2020-05-13)

My son was in this band and loved it.

(Bushkill, 2020-05-13)

I don’t want to see the last vestiges of the Wilkes music program disappear.

(Exeter, PA, 2020-05-13)

#307

Band should be available to everyone.

(Groveland, 2020-05-13)

#311

Band is a fundamental program for a university that provides a constructive outlet for all kinds of people. Removing its funding is indicative of a poorly run administration.

(Hagerstown, MD, 2020-05-13)

#312

I use to work at Wilkes' Performing Arts Department. Music is an integral part of a liberal arts education. Arts are needed to make individuals well rounded citizens.

(Wilkes Barre, PA, 2020-05-13)

#315

I believe in the importance of music education.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#316

Wilkes band has had a huge positive impact on my friends at Wilkes University. It gives them a fun and learning atmosphere for them to have a break from school work. Music is a great outlet from stress and college students need that more than anyone.

(Wilkes-Barre, 2020-05-13)

#321

I'm signing because band is an amazing outlet filled with talented people who get to express themselves in amazing ways.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#322

I support the arts in education, and believe it is a vital aspect that should not be discarded. I am also a longtime member of the Wilkes Wind Ensemble, and I am devastated at the thought of not being able to perform with this group should it be cut.

(Dallas, 2020-05-13)

#325

To support my musical Colonels ❤️

(Perry Hall, 2020-05-13)

#326

A university without a band is a joke. Get over yourselves and make higher education something more than a racketeering scheme.

(Lord's Valley, 2020-05-13)

#331

People need music, more now than ever

(Dallas, 2020-05-13)

#334

Without a music program, the University loses its soul. I am a very proud 1976 cum laude graduate who was fortunate to earn my BS Degree in Music Education at Wilkes.

(Oxford, 2020-05-13)

#336

I am Wilkes University alumni. I was in band for seventh grade all the way through college. Music is very important. It’s a wonderful outlet. Great way to express yourself.

(Kingston, 2020-05-13)

#343

I have friends in the program that are personally being affected. Their love for band and playing music should not be taken away. We should fight to let them keep doing what they love and do whatever we can to help raise money and prove that the band program belongs at Wilkes University.

(Bayville, New Jersey 08721, 2020-05-13)

#344

The arts are important to everyone involved, and cutting the program is a major disservice to the members. Unless every recreational program goes with it, the band deserves to stay.

(West Chester, 2020-05-13)

#351

I’m signing because music is one of the most important arts in the world. Without music we would not be able to express ourselves in a positive healthy way. Without the option of music at schools students will more likely engage in parties involving drugs and alcohol. Music is not just an art, it is a science too. It helps you as a student in all your other subjects whether it’s with memorization, recognizing patterns, or even social interactions. Music shall not and will not be cancelled. Ever.

(Camp Hill, 2020-05-13)

#352

band was CRUCIAL to my mental well being all through high school and college. Insane how often arts are targeted as the first to go

(WILKES BARRE, 2020-05-13)

#353

Music is so important. Wilkes just spent millions on updates for the sports fields and the greenway but refuse to renovate the Darte and now they are cutting the band?!?! Although I was a biology major, the music program at Wilkes was the reason my parents let me turn down a full scholarship to King's. Wilkes needs to get its priorities straight.

(07103, 2020-05-13)

#360

Band was important in my life and pushed me to be more than who I was!

(Deptford Township, 2020-05-13)

#363

Music has always been a huge part of my life. Music is a creative outlet where I could go and be with an amzing group of people that shared the same interest as me.

(Falls, 2020-05-13)

#365

I’m a music teacher and band supporter for life. Please don’t take this opportunity away.

(Gordon, 2020-05-13)

#367

As a performer who grew up with music my entire life, the cancellation of such a program would be detrimental to the mental health of so many who were involved or wanted to be involved in the program.

(Downingtown, 2020-05-13)

#368

Music is life cut something besides music

(Wilkes-Barre, 2020-05-13)

#369

Music has enriched my life for over half my life. Without music I would have missed out on knowing fabulous people.

(Alton, IL, 2020-05-13)

#371

I believe that every school should have a band program provided that they have the sufficient amount of students needed to join.

(Warren, 2020-05-13)

#374

My friend goes to Wilkes and I know how important the band program is not just to her but her friends and family too as a way to showcase there creativity and talent. I believe cutting something like this would be a great disservice to the many talented students who wish to showcase those talents for their friends, family, and community.

(Exton, 2020-05-13)

#375

I am signing because I was a band member at West Chester and I believe in the importance of a band program at any school for development, memories, and the skills

(Langhorne, 2020-05-13)

#376

The marching band and band programs at Wilkes University were a very big deciding factor of my daughter’s selection of Wilkes! All through her high school career she has “lived” in the band room and on the football field taking part in every band opportunity she could all while maintaining her extremely high academic standing. She wants to attend Wilkes to benefit from the high scientific course of studies it offers, but next to that what she is most looking forward to is enjoying four more years of involvement in the creative outlet and collaboration with students of every major through the medium of Wilkes University music. Please preserve this program to benefit all the students who look forward to providing support for the football team and other team sports through the marching and pep bands, and to performing jazz and concert music for all members of the university and community to enjoy!!

(East Stroudsburg PA, 2020-05-13)

#380

Music is essential for a well rounded education. Students need the arts to express themselves. It is vital that students have that outlet to express themselves.

(Jackson, 2020-05-13)

#381

I'm signing this because band and music in general are always the sacrificial alternative in any budget cut directive, even though it has been proven time and time again by countles scientific studies that music has a positive mental and cognitive effect on the brain more than athletics. And it's something EVERYONE can do.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#387

My daughter and daughter-in-law are both alumni of Wilkes and I am appalled that you wouldn't consider getting rid of the band program I have listened to the band as small as it was at basketball games and they were incredible and played enthusiastically and with all of their hearts

(Nanticoke, 2020-05-13)

#388

Hi, I’m signing this petition because as a member of my school’s band, I believe having the arts is an extremely important part of individuals. Especially nowadays, band is a way individuals can express themselves through and find who they truly are. I believe it is unfair that the music program at any school is always the first to be cut due to the budget cuts. With this being said, I strongly believe that the band program is a very important place for students to open up to each other, and is a phenomenal way of letting students find themselves. Overall, I very much so believe that the band program at Wilkes University deserves to live on so that future generations may have the opportunity to express themselves through their music.

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#390

I’m signing because I will be a WilkesU student this coming year and was very much looking forward to being a part of this band. Please save this music program!

(Thomasville, 2020-05-13)

#392

Band is a great outlet for those who have a hard time making friends, expressing themselves, or just love to play a musical instrument. I was in the band all throughout highschool and my first year at college. I loved it. Please save the marching band.

(Wilkes-barre, 2020-05-13)

#393

As a music teacher in the area, I have many students who currently go/will be going to Wilkes who care a great deal about their music programs. A school's band is a great outreach and recruitment tool for many students, even if music is not their direct field of study.

(Selinsgrove, 2020-05-13)

#394

I’m signing because I can understand how important marching let alone music is with people and how much of an impact it does to others.

(East stroudsburg, 2020-05-13)

#396

I am signing this so a amazing and talented band member from DHS and also friend of mine can further her career of playing a musical instrument and sharing her talents!!

(Dunmore, 2020-05-13)

#398

As a Wilkes grad, I appreciate the education I received. I also appreciate The Music Ed I received and think the Band is a worthy program and should continue. Thank you.
